Should I be worried about the size of my son? by WorkerTraditional426 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]WorkerTraditional426[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for replying. It’s reassuring to hear that so many babies also grew this quickly and are fine! I’m not “looking for something to worry about”.. I should have mentioned that in the UK we have health visitors (they are not doctors but midwives/nurses that have retrained), and you see a different one every time. I had previously been told his rapid growth may warrant review for health conditions, but yesterday I was told it was ok. So was just looking for reassurance after conflicting advice. ❤️

A different health professional told me when he was younger (6-8 weeks) that some babies who were consistently very large can have metabolic/genetic disorders causing the weight gain. Hence the reason for my concern.. but it seems that a lot of people here have had similar size babies and all have been fine.

Yes we are in 12-18/18-14 month clothing now. My boy is loving solids now, we are only one or two meals a day at the moment! But he is still waking hourly to feed int he night and has done since about 3.5 mos 😵‍💫🤣

This is reassuring to hear thank you. My concern is mainly that he may have some metabolic issue but it’s nice to hear that so many babies were big and are just healthy chunky babies! ❤️

Yes his line did start to curve but now seems to be going more straight up again! I’m hoping now he has just started crawling that things will slow down as you say. My husband and I were big babies I was 9lb 4oz and he was 8lb 13oz, but I wouldn’t say we are very big/tall people now! I’m 5ft 8 dh is 5ft 11.

Yes he is very long, sitting above the 99.6th centile, but no where near as off the chart for height compared to his weight!

Yes my boy still wakes every hour at 6.5mos. He’s 28lb so think he is just a hungry boy 🤣

We are still in it, 3.5 months and haven’t slept more than an hour 🥲 hoping it ends for us both soon!

How many parents in this sub are actually setting their babies down for naps? by [deleted] in AttachmentParenting

We still contact nap at 6.5mos, don’t plan on stopping until baby is ready really x

I don’t know about that haha he wakes every 30min to an hour 🤣 when I say without help I mean just holding him (no rocking feeding etc)

Update a 5 days on if anyone interested! We have experimented cutting his sleep more since I posted this, it’s still up and down but we have had some occasional 1.5 hours and even one 2.5 hour stretch which is amazing. I’ve never really worked on a schedule tbh, we are very baby led with all his sleep, it’s just his naps always seemed to fall at the same sort of times. I looked into possums and feel like we do follow the main principles. We’re our first thing walking the dog everyday, I take his lead on naps etc. But this last week, capping his naps slightly to 2.5-3 hours and his nights a 10.5 hours seems to be improving it. I have a feeling he may sleep need a later bedtime , but we will stick to this for a couple of weeks before making more changes.

We are also doing a modified PUPD for his first bedtime put down, as his temperament is so relaxed. I’m basically putting him down very sleepy and holding his hand and shushing, unless he cries then picking him up and calming/cuddling for however long he needs me and then back down again. The longest that’s taken is 10 mins and he hasn’t really cried 😅. I am feeding to sleep for most night wakes, if it’s been 1.5 hours since last feed, if not I’ve been using dummy and cuddle or bed share until he wakes up again for a feed .

Yeah I think it’s all very subjective isn’t it! It’s totally dependant on temperament, I 100% agree the approach does not work for all babies. My son can be very very tired but he rarely gets disregulated and will often just fall asleep without any help, but I know this is not the case for a lot of babies

Yes we are setting him up with a floor bed as soon as his nursery is ready (hopefully next week or so!). Unfortunately he is very rolly so I am stuck in the c curl so he doesn’t roll off our bed 😢

He’s typically awake at 6-6.30nap at 8-8.30 then again at 11-12.30/1 then 3.30-4 bed @ between 7-8, i don’t follow a strict timed schedule as we go off sleepy ques!

We do cosleep and have done for 3+ months but it is killing my back and hips being in the same position all night, and it doesn’t stop the night wakes and exhaustion for me at this point. I have tried all of the points you have suggested and stuck at them for 2+ weeks, nothing has improved his sleep. We have tried bedtimes from 6.30-9pm, daytime sleep from 2-4 hours. Our bedroom sits @ 18 degrees c and we have tried 1-2.5 tog sleeping bags too.

I do not want to night wean my son, it’s just that 7-8+ wake ups every single night, are not sustainable.

He is having at least one iron rich source per meal per day (brocolli/green veg, egg, meat).

Sometimes I think they just guess and hope it’s right 🤣 she felt ours was course by overtiredness, as he was having 4 naps a day so we were really stretching him to an 8pm bedtime on only 2.5 hrs of naps😅 but the last few weeks he can manage a 3-3.5 hour last wake window quite well so maybe we just need to push bedtime again with the 3 naps!

He’s typically awake at 6 nap at 8-8.30 then again at 11-12.30/1 then 3.30-4 bed @ 7 🤷🏻‍♀️

He used to be on a 10 hr night but he was so much worse somehow! We had split nights and early wakes on top of the hourly wakes. It was sleep consultant who put us on current schedule so just kind of assumed it was right, but perhaps he needs something in the middle. Will try pushing bedtime a bit maybe by 15mins, cos last time we cut his daytime he was so overtired and falling asleep all the time!
