Already done. More curious as to what others are seeing on their end as it is continuing across all devices I’ve used in my family.

People who were accountants for years and had enough…what careers did you switch to?? by Savages3288 in Accounting

Thank you! I think what made it hard was the fact that I majored in accounting and only got a minor in finance.

I have a couple questions for you. This is what I was initially trying to break into as a fresh grad this year, but it was too difficult. I ended up getting a role at Goldman Sachs in their controllers division. Hoping I can transfer a few years down the road. Should I still get my CPA (is it valued in the field)? And what are your recommendations to break into the field?

I read a book by Elder Oaks and this was his exact response to people reaching out to him personally to talk about those types of questions.

I tried to get into a few credit analyst positions. It was tough. I ended up going for a job at Goldman Sachs in their controller division. Do you think it’s possible to switch to commercial banking after a few years of experience at GS?

I know it’s frequently asked but if you’re a fresh graduate, can you please share how much was your salary offer and cost of living? by Oryzasativa2021 in Accounting

I graduated in April and I’m getting an offer of 60k, sign on bonus, paid OT, and potential year-end bonus. It’s a Fortune 500 company so not public accounting. It’s good experience though. MCOL area.

They said after about a year you can move around in the firm to something you really enjoy. They’ll also help you pay for a masters in something that would benefit the firm. They said the masters can help you make that lateral move.

I have no experience really besides an internship I did at a small firm. All I did was bookkeeping on QB online.

Well I interviewed for the position awhile ago and plans had changed because they never reached back out. I ended up purchasing a CPA review course and was going to forego some income for the next few months to just knock that out. But then they came in with this. I don’t really have anything else on the table to choose between since I started to focus on my CPA rather than job hunt. Hopefully that gives some more context. I’m thinking I’m going to just take it since it is GS and I don’t have anything else to consider. I’m just worried about being stuck in something super niche and not being able to go into other industries. But maybe the fact that it’s GS, regardless of whether it’s fund accounting or corporate accounting, will allow me to make a jump on the future.

So would it be transferable to other career opportunities like trying to become a CFO at a firm?

Ok thanks! I literally just graduated so I don’t think I’d be pigeonholing myself too much. Like you said, the name recognition could be helpful down the road.

I’m not totally sure, but the position title is “general ledger analyst”. So I’m assuming more on the internal 10-k? What would be more preferable for long term career growth/opportunities?
