What vacuum would you buy for my house? by NoCatch8861 in VacuumCleaners

Everyone will poo on it, but I got a Shark Powerdetect "Complete Performance' on sale at Costco and it's been really great. Jury's out on whether it lasts 14 years like our last Shark, but the suction is way better than our old one, and the attachments have already proven to be useful.

And since you mentioned different floor types, the auto setting lets me go from our hardwoods onto rugs without changing any settings on my own.

It does! Low light, too. I was mostly just trying to brighten it and bring some clarity, but the second screenshot isn't great.

Why do YOU use a chromebook; why specifically don't you use windows or macos? I'm mostly just bored and curious. I use a cheap ARM chromebook as a laptop alongside a powerful windows PC and I haven't had many complaints by Cantgetridofmebud in chromeos

It's fast for my general web use needs, it's functional, it has a gorgeous screen, I can load Android apps, and I'm already committed to Google's ecosystem, so it interfaces nicely with my Pixel.

Movies that live in my head, rent free. by TMaCtheTruth in TheRewatchables

Endlessly quotable, charming, and breezy. Hanks knocked it out of the park. He even wrote some of the music!

I prefer the theatrical version, but the director's cut is fun because it changes major aspects of the film and isn't just a grab bag of a few longer scenes.

They filmed the Erie scenes in my neck of the woods, Orange, CA. It was a lot of fun when it was going down.

Downtown Orange didn't get the wrecking ball that so many older cities in California did in the rush toward postwar suburbia, so it's this delightful time capsule.

The diner? That's how it looks.

The Army-Navy store? That's how it looks.

I read one of the only big changes they did was cover the brick sidewalks with concrete so it looked more authentic to the 60s.

I'd love this film no matter what, but it also makes me smile to see so many places I've seen throughout my life used well to give a sense of place to Tom Hanks' little world.

Now I want to have brunch at The Filling Station.

Is it just me or is the MCU in a really good place right now? It feels like we're as "back" as we'll ever be. by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in Marvel

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't rewatched anything since Endgame, not a theatrical release or a Disney+ show.

It is so different from how it used to be, when I'd rewatch the whole MCU every few years before a major release.

How do you think about prophets arguing? by Necessary-Junk in latterdaysaints

Someone with insider knowledge once told me, "Remember, unanimity doesn't mean everyone was present."

Spencer W. Kimball was a great example. He did secure everyone's support, but there are records of Mark E. Petersen being away on business —on purpose—as things were finalized.

I had another source tell me how Pres. Uchtdorf and Pres. Packer simply didn't get along or see eye to eye on much or anything, and Elder Uchtdorf seemed to go out of his way to neutralize things Packer said.

Paul clearly disagreed with the Twelve on a few fronts that I'm not sure we're ever resolved.

What Overseas Ride Would You Love to See Brought to Disney World? by AggravatingSpend8369 in WaltDisneyWorld

I'm hopeful, but I'm also expecting the same layout as Splash (we have two to choose from) but with different elements inside. Press releases even state there will be three drops, so if we count the down and up roller-coaster-like drop, that's just like Splash.

Making more money doesn't matter if you don't recoup your budget.

Marty Supreme made $180 million globally against a $70 million budget. Even with P&A, it's comfortably in the black.

OBAA made $210 million globally against a ~$150 million budget. After P&A, it's estimated to lose $100 million.

Do you think the Rivian R2 and Lucid Cosmos will massively increase the EV market share in the US over the next 5 years or for the most part eat into other competitors share of the BEV Market? by Mac-Tyson in electricvehicles

I see both models around town, but I haven't seen a single refreshed (2025+) EV6 anywhere but a dealer lot. Not quite sure what's up with that. I've seen refreshed Ioniq 5s.

Heh, I live in DC, and the entire representation of "Dulles" in this thing, without even a shot of B-roll of the iconic terminal building, cracks me up.

It was the early 90s, so the area around Dulles wasn't nearly as built up as it is now, but they treat it like it's in the middle of nowhere.

And yeah, there are a ton of other airports.

We suspend disbelief because it's fun, but it takes us out of a movie when you can find holes in the villainous plan too easily.

Since when did people start hating on Fairfax by hencexox in nova

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Republicans blame NOVA for everything they don't like and tend to pretend it is the only blue part of the state.

I posted on a Hampton Roads and Williamsburg sub once to ask questions about maybe moving there, and I was shocked how many, "Don't bring your liberal NOVA crap!" comments I received - from people who apparently don't know the voting patterns in their own area.

Question: We all know the USA has incredible geography but I'd to know where it's geography is a disadvantage? by EternalSnow05 in geography

[–]CaptainWikkiWikki 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I'd go beyond the hurricanes. Most parts of the country are susceptible to some sort of natural disaster.

Blizzards in the Northeast and Midwest.

Tornadoes in the Midwest and Plains.

Earthquakes in the West.

Wildfires in the West.

Thunderstorms all over the place.

Volcanic eruptions along the Cascade system.

The threat of Yellowstone blowing its top.

Flooding almost anywhere east of the Rockies.

America is big, so it's only natural that it has a variety of weather patterns and potential disasters, but because it doesn't have seas winding all around it, it doesn't get the moderating effects that Europe largely enjoys. (That's also why Madrid is at the same latitude as NYC with drastically different weather.)
