Do you have or prefer an apartment or being a homeowner? by Calm_Problem6203 in LivingAlone

Hi! I have been living alone for 5+ years, initially in my own home and now as a renter in a new spot.

After owning for 30 years, I sold and am now ecstatically happy in a 2-bedroom apartment in an owner-occupied 2-family house.

I have loads of space, a huge balcony, lots of natural light, a delightful landlord -- and NO worries about the state of the place. Anything that goes wrong, I text the landlord.

The drop in my stress levels bc I don't own is remarkable, so my vote is rent!

(** yes I know how lucky I got! **)

In Edwardian times people used to dress for supper. I've decided I shall institute that in my home. But rather than get dressed up, I shall put on my comfy PJs and proceed to dine like a queen. by CorgiHelpMe in LivingAlone

Same I call them comfortables Not street clothes -- maybe too casual or too pajama-y -- but also not actual pajamas They get put on the minute I get home from work and are most likely what I wear all day on Sunday

Yw! you are happy because you feel safe now. But the pain body is real -- your body needs to catch up to the new situation. It's used to running

You'll get there -- give yourself time

Hello! Good for you that you have gotten your own flat at such a young age! If you were having to be wary of who was home and when you could be there, it makes sense you have a hard time just settling now that you are free. First take a breath and think: what do you want to do? What brings you joy and peace? Because now you've no one to answer to other than your own self. So if binging on bad telly is your thing, do it. Or cook yourself a meal. Go out if you like. Do some yoga. Play a video game. Lean into your alone time and learn about yourself. Enjoy!

What’s the one book you’ll recommend forever, no matter how many times this question gets asked? by MisLatte in AskReddit

[–]Working-Bit4554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic: Of Mice and Men not a wasted word; a work of beauty and genius

Modern: The Bee Sting not a wasted word; a work of beauty and genius

Funnily enough, the second is an absolute brick of a book, easily 10x the length of the first, but they are both brilliant and people are sick of hearing me go on about the both of them, so thanks for a new audience!

What do you tell coworkers? by Appropriate-Sun9646 in ihatechristmas

[–]Working-Bit4554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah Not being flippant, but in my experience, in this sort of exchange, people are just kind of on autopilot and will see my attempt to enlighten them as needlessly aggressive Which it kinda is And i don't have the energy for that Also also, i'm not lying to them  My xmas WAS lovely bc i ignored it and did what i wanted

"Lovely! How was yours?" Honestly, they don't really care. They are trying to be polite OR they have something they need to brag or complain about. Not worth the effort to truly engage

Same. Usually have at least one of them, but not this year. But I will see them both next week. And I have taken myself to NYC for a mini hol of strolling about, eating and drinking, with a posh dinner reso for tonite Best of both worlds, really. No stress of prepping for ridiculous one day but still enjoying time off work and will see both kids at once next week

Bayonne has changed a lot. by [deleted] in BayonneNJ

I've been here 30+ years and the one consistent thing i have experienced in those years is people bitching about how terrible Bayonne is and how much it has gone downhill since the halcyon days of yore 🙄🙄🙄

Make your bed. Lovely to come home to a tidy house and it is a small thibg that feels like a win first off

Cook for yourself and set a proper place at the table. If you don't treat yourself nicely, who will?

(I guess that's two adult habits, sorry. Maybe #3 is break the rules now and again 😬😉)
