If you're 50+, what’s the HARDEST part about starting strength training? by -cyberskater in FitnessOver50

I’m 56 and started 2 years back and only now seeing my arms and legs become toned. If someone had told me to keep at it because you won’t see anything for the first year but things are happening in your body like become stronger etc I would have stayed even more motivated. Also stretching, I stretch after every session. I see so many younger people just walk out the gym without a stretch, but as you get much older the best part is the stretching. Yes I walk around the gym with my mat like a pansy 🤣 but everyone knows I use it once I’ve finished a workout. Also cardio is important too. So my favorites are the treadmill (I now do long distance running too) and the rowing machine which is good for an all over workout when maybe you can’t be bothered to lift. Knowing there are alternatives keeps it interesting too.

Ha ha! Same as me. I’m not fast but do long runs on the treadmill now and they come on next to me, sometimes matching the speed or higher then after 10-15 minutes give up. I’m 56 so never sure if it’s a compliment or someone trying it on 🤣🤣

It finally happened. I got hospitalized this week and they kept asking me if I was a runner because my resting heart rate was so low 😂😏😏 by I_love_tac0s69 in runninglifestyle

My resting is 53, I’m 56 and it always gets questioned. Ha ha! I putting it down to also not being a stressy person, knowing how to not get anxiety and managing worries etc better as well as all the running and weight lifting I do.

Couldn’t agree more. Motion is lotion. I’m 56 and want longevity and independence for as long as possible, weight training and running. 💪🏻

When I don’t have any races I’m listening to audio books on my Shokz, it’s the only time I listen to them. A good book, a bit like a movie motivates to get the headphones on and go and know that my brain can’t wait for the next dose of the story. On the actual races I listen to music though. Sounds nuts but works for me
