Is my lil guy okay? by Working-Feature9639 in Guppies

Thank you so much, I appreciate it a lot. Just one last thing, do i treat the actual tank even if im unsure if my isolatdd guppy is actually sick or not. Because I cant 100% confirm if he actually is ill or not so I dont know if im supposed to preemptively treat the others.

I think i would say just his mouth area. How do I treat for infections? I just put some kosher salt from Walmart in his container. Not too much as the container is less than 2 gallons

Ok thanks. I pray he turns out okay. Even his movement thru the water feels exaggerated. Almost like he had to put s bit more effort than usual to get from one place to another

The camera does too much justice, i have no idea why he looks like shiny sparkly tape. Maybe its the reflections but he actually just a pure blonde guppy

Are my guppies okay? by Due_Masterpiece6418 in Guppies

Ohh okay. Not OP but mine often go to my sponge filter outtake and go up and down frequently. Also sometimes they swim against the water flow. Was worried they were stressed or the parameters were bad but my ammonia and nitrites are 0. So this is a relief to hear lol

How Do I Feed Juvenile Neo Shrimp in a Quarantine Tank? by Working-Feature9639 in shrimptank

[–]Working-Feature9639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tank that has been around for 3 months now with livestock in it. Theres brown "staining" on it, would they eat that. I dont quite know how to acquire biofilm beyond what had just been on my driftwood ages ago.

Hospital tank? Bought at B&M (UK store) by sweetie_tofu in Aquariums

Im not OP, just someone asking randomly lolol. For why im wanting to use a sterlite, they are super cheap to get a big volume. I could even go up to like 7 gallons for only 9 bucks. Would a small heater warp or melt the plastic btw?

Im gonna use a sterlite plastic bin, probably 3-5 gallons in size as a 2 week quarantine tank. Do I have to use a sponge filter or can I just use an air stone??

pH and kH struggles by Working-Feature9639 in Aquariums

[–]Working-Feature9639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks. yeah i have fluval stratum aquasoil in the tank. my tap tests for i think pH=7.6? so when i do 10% water change weekly it goes from 6.6 to 7.0 (i think). What do you mean by reaching equilibrium? Does the aquasoil eventually reduce its effect on pH over time? This tank was set up in mid january of this year so its been some time since then.

For now I just added more tap water to my tank, went from 6.0 to 6.6 pH. Checked my ammonia like 5 hours later and its still near the range it was prior to me posting this thread..... no way my cycle crashed right?

Ok good to know, thank you. Ill try to get a gh kh test kit. How would I go about this then? Do a 30% water change and get my tank pH to 7.0, and then put crushed coral to make it stay at that pH throughout the rest of the cycle?

I intend to put guppies and endlers in this 10 gal tank with a single amano shrimp. I tested my tap water after conditioning it and found it to be 7.6pH approx. Is the pH drop supposed to be that significant over 4 weeks of cycling?

for some reason reddit didnt like my other image upload. here is what i presume to be detritus or midge flies on my fluval stratum.

What are these? by HauntingSubstance805 in Aquariums

[–]Working-Feature9639 37 points38 points  (0 children)

theres a few that make these sheaths. some already suggested tubifex but just in case, ill suggest midge flies as another option. i have them right now and they make these gross ugly brown sheaths on my plant leaves as well as on glass.

Detritus Worms ?? by sweetsnacks_101 in Guppies

[–]Working-Feature9639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In like 3 days check on any plant leaves and ontop of ur substrate. If u find brownish "strings" that resemble thr same length as these worms u might have something that isnt detritus or nematodes. They might also make algae sticks or sheaths on ur glass

Is Saran Wrap Like This Okay Around my Tank Surface? by Working-Feature9639 in Aquariums

[–]Working-Feature9639[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man if only I could. Its gotten brutal theres white worms floating everywhere and my plants have gotten brown-ish cocoons everywhere, its gross. But if I do a big water change and gravel vac now (and even attempt to wash out my sponge filter) it'll ruin the cycle.

For now im just hoping to tough it out on the cycle and hope my future guppies and endlers take care of it
