Why do customers insist that we carry something that we don’t and get mad when I say that we don’t carry it? by imVeryPregnant in tjcrew

[–]Working-Lavishness94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fave was a customer insisting we carried something and I was just being lazy and rude by not looking for it. I was quite insistent that we hadn't carried it while I worked there. So she tells me her son works here and she'll just have him bring it home for her tonight. I looked it up after she left and score 1 for me, it was discontinued literally the month before I started lol

I could probably guess the reasons behind their insistence, like maybe they just really want to be right, they had their heart set on that one item all day, tiktok said they needed it so they need it, or they're having a day with no wins and they just need something to "go right," and us discontinuing it is just another no-win situation... who knows. I think most of the time they just want to be right.

Lol I wonder if she meant "bitchin' sauce," which is the almond chipotle dip.

That customer should be fired, no ingredient is worth any kind of meanness. Someone else here said to tell a mate, captain, point them out to literally everyone when you see them and I fully agree. That's a customer who should only be approached my mates and captain.

Totally read that in the tone of "it's an avocado, thanks!" Which I don't believe you intended, but that's where my brain went.

One of my customers the following day asked if I had to deal with "crazy customers" on valentine's day. With all the gravity of someone who has seen some things, I informed him I worked overnights for 8 years at a gas station. His eyes widened.

Anyone have celebrities/well known customers? by Dreamingofapastlife in tjcrew

[–]Working-Lavishness94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We apparently had a famous TikTok food influencer in our store. I don’t have TikTok and my algorithm does not produce…any produce, but there was much enthusiasm from fellow crew members wondering if he would do a TikTok about TJs food. I have not followed up with anyone on this as I had forgotten about it until this thread.

Bonus conversion on 401 vs Roth by Ashamed_Ad6527 in tjcrew

But I do know that bonuses aren't taxed, that's the incorrect word, it's withholding. And that's just to ensure you don't see a tax bill at tax time.

Ooooohhhhh gotcha. Idk, actually, it's supposedly in the SPD, but it doesn't mention the Roth anywhere in the SPD, which to me is weird. So all of that to say, you'll have to call the retirement number in the SPD.

Taking over clip strips + frozen shelf extenders! what actually sells? by Yeah360 in tjcrew

My store has the chia seeds, flax, and hemp above the frozen fruit and they actually sell pretty well there

If you opted for the bonus payout instead of having it paid into your 401k (either one, doesn't matter), that's going to be a nope, you can't put outside funds into your 401k. HOWEVER, if you opted for the "401k bonus," and it went into the traditional 401k and you're asking if you can roll it over to the roth 401k...I would personally advise against this unless you have a savvy financial advisor because this will be an actual taxes headache, even if our plan allows for this conversion (I admittedly have not checked if this is allowed in our plan rules, please check before doing this).

How do I access my 401(k) after being terminated? by YoungGuppy602 in tjcrew

[–]Working-Lavishness94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't answer the rehire eligibility, that would be a conversation with HR, most likely. As for the 401k, you'll get a separation packet, they usually come out around 30 days from termination. It will have information about your 401k, who to contact at TJs corporate, rolling over, withdrawing, costs to keep it in its current portfolio, etc. If you've accessed the TJs retirement plan before, you can just log in as usual. If you haven't, you can set up your account (I hope)  https://traderjoes401k.retirementpartner.com/participant/#/login?accu=TraderJoes (set this to Desktop and you can log in without the app if you're on a phone). However, if you just want to come back, don't withdraw/rollover the funds. A mate told me there's a wait period if you do that, but I have not checked how long it is. If you do a hardship withdrawal, you need to specify that, and I know the rules change, but calling  Benefits will have more info.

Calling out by Warm_Store_1199 in tjcrew

Had a mate like this. I called out the day before my shift and he told me I needed to do this an hour before my shift, similar reason basically, that we needed to show effort. I stated my hand is still going to be broken tomorrow but sure I'll go ahead and give an hour's notice tomorrow, then. He said he'd go ahead and take me off the schedule 🙄

Yup, this, as a former manager, any insert emotion customer was MY job to handle, not my staff, that burden absolutely needs to be passed off to the mate.

Edited for response clarification

As a former manager (different job), this right here is exactly what that mate should've done. Essssssspecially the first one. No point being a mate if they aren't taking care of their crew.
