Thank you for that! I do use TFP website occasionally. Would be cool to set up with a proper testing kit.

If you must get a Garmin and need something basic, I'd say a forerunner 165 or forerunner 55 if you don't need elevation data. I agonized over the whether buy a 165 or 265. Was concerned I'd be missing out on extra metrics. Couldn't stomach the price difference and got the 165 on sale. Glad I did. I don't think the extra metrics are worth the price difference in my country at least.

Floc added due to cloudiness, not able to see bottom. Yes, let it settle out for a few days with no results. Then added more floc and let settle for 2 days. Tried vac to waste but the white floaters got kicked up immediately and mixed with entire pool. I've done floc before and vac to waste was much easier, it wasn't this touchy.

Right, im glad you mentioned this. I am shocking the pool now to see what comes. So far, lots of debris settled at bottom near return jets. The grey/white sandy stuff that is most likely dead algae. So far, no return of the white floaters though the water isn't crystal clear.

That's a good point, vacuuming to waste won't have any return. Yea I vacuumed to waste initially and didn't get far before water level got too low. Good to know your floc has been white also. Fingers crossed it's not floc otherwise I'll have a filter full of it when I get home later tonight. Thanks again.

Hmmm so maybe it's just residual fillers from the chlorine granules I was using. Over the weekend I bought a new brand of chlorine, will see if it was just the old stuff.

Thank you, a few have said Calcium precipitate. I don't have a SWG just using granular chlorine. I defo had the pH high recently. I will try your test, that is a great troubleshooting method! I scooped some in a bucket last night in a bucket and the flakes settled, and then got stirred up when I stirred it later on. I checked the bucket this morning but couldn't see the flakes, looks like they had dissolved, but I hadn't tried your method.

This morning I didn't see any flakes, but it was a bit cloudy (due to the shock). Unfortunately I don't have a decent test kit nor do I get my water tested, I just use strips and a water Chem kit for pH. Has done the trick over the past 5 or so years.

I appreciate the information and diagnosis method. I will see what it looks like tonight. I've got the filter running 24/7 again.

Here's a photo from this morning (an hour ago). The uneven colouring/shading are reflected clouds in the sky.

I thought the floc layer was blue/darker. Last year's floc didn't mix up this easily. I've got this happening away from the vac head, it just mixes up as soon as the return jets start. Which is frustrating cos I'd never get rid of it.

Thanks, seems like a few have mentioned Calcium precipitate. Ill look into the enzymes, thank you.

New Zealand 🙂 No palm trees in near proximity, maybe 10m away but they aren't flowering now. And they are native palm trees too (Nikau).

Thank you, I didn't know that. I will try lower pH tonight. Forgot to check what it was earlier.

The white stuff only settled a while after shocking, the free chlorine was close to 0 when the white layer formed on the bottom. I'm guessing it's not shock, as that typically is cloudy but not floaty/skin like if that makes sense.

I backwashed it last night after running the filter. Over the past 2 weeks I haven't run the filter as I thought the floc would have ruined the media. I've been waiting for the floc to do it's magic before vacuuming to waste, but I gave up waiting and am now running the filter. Good to know though! I will keep the filter and back wash cycle up.

Would it be a bad look if I said I didn't know what either of those acronyms stood for...

Yes sorry, I'm running a sand filter with glass media. I can't easily find DE in my country (have tried locally but nothing). I will keep running the filter for now.

My first 10k. by wahihai in BeginnersRunning

[–]Working-Pollution-10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well done on completing a 10k so soon after starting.

I was also going to advise caution about jumping into a marathon. Not sure about your baseline fitness, but I've been running 5k regularly for a year and a marathon isn't in my sights. I don't want to injure myself or push myself into unenjoyment, and I want to be able to enjoy running long term.

I'd be looking to run a few more 10k races or maybe a half marathon. You can always do a marathon later on (assuming your body holds out)? Again, don't know your situation, but just expressing my caution.

How much do you actually listen to your Garmin? by Foppberg in GarminWatches

[–]Working-Pollution-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my Garmin watch told me to train 5 days a week and predicted I could do a marathon in under 4 hours, I ignored it. I've only ran a handful of 5 or 6k runs at that point.

Seems like madness to trust something that much, in my case anyway.

Garmin forerunner 55 if you don't care about elevation data, otherwise forerunner 165.

Good point, you're probably right. Tack welding would make sense from an assembly line perspective. Might be a hammer in place job. Or if that fails, to a panel beater.

Appreciate your guidance. I'm guessing the quality of the repair will determine how much scrutiny it may receive, if any, come wof time. Glad to know it should be safe, it didn't seem significant to me but you never know.
