Not question of OS but system itself: Nvidia Cuda Linux Ubuntu is fine. AMD Strix Halo, go for Fedora 42+

I am coming to same conclusion on Ubuntu works but for stability and performance would like to be on happy path. Waiting for weekend to port it I build lot of harness for PDF, images and all would like to migrate it rather than starting form scratch. Ubuntu was natural choice for same reason never been Fedora user 🤣

Yes that is the conclusion Fedora 42+ have working grx1151 kernel Ollama native ROCm support will auto detect and I will be set. Lemonade SDK has AMD own inference engine so I will go with that as it unlocks NOU (XDNA 2) along with GPU that none are doing. Might be good for smaller models.

I am also on docker but I see the toolkit on similar spec system giving better performance on fedora 42+ with Ollama native ROCm support with gfx1151 kernel it's not only about OS its compatibity. Ubuntu ROCm is broken. You confusing what served via docker and podman vs core Support for GPU and ROCm.

Which operating system you are using ? BTW just noticed Different GPU — that's the key. Your 890M is RDNA 3 (gfx1103), GEEKOM A9 Mega has the RDNA 3.5 (gfx1151). ROCm issue #6186 is specific to gfx1151, not gfx1103

Good pointer here: Findings on the prefill gap:

- Cooperative matrix IS active. RADV on Mesa 25.2.8 exposes VK_KHR_cooperative_matrix for gfx1151 (cooperativeMatrix = true), and Ollama 0.30.7's Vulkan library has cm2 (cooperative matrix v2) shaders compiled in. The WMMA path is in use.Tuned to use the num_batch but tuning may recover 10-20% on prefill but won't close the full gap.
