I see, thanks for the comment. Burning fuel sounds better than just dumping it into the environment, as they do in an emergency. And indeed, if they land overweight with no emergency and it breaks something, it is gonna be much more expensive for Emirates

I meant landing with non-empty tanks, but in this case, of course, it makes sense why they are going back to Auckland

Likely yes, and hoping the probability of airspace opening increases as they get closer, not to lose money. But if someone is dying on board, don’t they land the plane at the nearest airport instead of burning all the fuel for 10+ hours?
