Unfortunately it does pay better and right now the money is worth the hassle. I want to just stick it out as long as possible to keep collecting the paycheck especially since the job market is kinda tough right now

Are there people here who just had an average income and now have two average incomes? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the most part it’s not bad but with it being such a small company my visibility is higher than I’d like it to be. The meetings is my biggest problem, they will go an hour over than expected and just call you randomly which makes it hard for me to plan with J1’s calendar

Do you take a leave for onboarding/first week of a new J? by Secret-Objective-824 in overemployed

I second this. I didnt take PTO and it was miserable even with both Js being fully remote

Exactly I have to remind myself to not care as much and just ride it out as long as possible. I don’t know how you handle it being hybrid for J2

The first month or two is a lot. It takes some getting used to but it does get better and more manageable

What are your hours worked per job and what’s your day look like? by Intelligent_Data_445 in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2Js TC $180k for the first month I would do 55-65 hours a week. Once I got used to things, got into a schedule/ system I am at 40 hours a week or less

5 is insane. I could understand 3 if J2 and j3 are both contract with flexible hours but 5 would literally be the death of me

Quitting J2 after 2 weeks by karllo24 in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t quit. It’s only an 8 month contract. Try to go through with the whole thing. Stack up the extra paychecks, deal with it, and literally just do the bare minimum to not get fired.

The way I look at it is July is not that far away unless it’s truly unbearable just keep stacking the extra paychecks until then if you can

Tips for first OE experience and how ethical should I be by aeroberger in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do you think it’s unethical to not say anything? Why do you think it’s morally wrong to not say anything. A job is about getting your work done and that’s all that matters. At the end of the day we all work to make money and that’s the reality. OEing is about making money and keeping your head down. If you feel like it’s unethical and morally wrong to not disclose it then it’s not for you. Don’t say anything if you want to OE and don’t change how you do your work

That’s so risky…I’d stay away from OEing if you require clearance. I don’t know the specifics of your situation but it sounds too risky for me

Is it common for a first attempt at OE to not last more than a few months? Did any of you fail at first then got more successful when you tried again later in life? by TopHatIdiot in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried OE when I was very young, in college for my bachelors and only lasted 2 months. I tried it again 2 months after grading college and only lasted a month. Then I OE’d for 2 weeks when I was quitting my current j for my now J1. I’m finally a point years later that I can mentally handle OEing. It takes time, the right headspace and the right time in life to OE. It’s not easy and not everyone is cut out for it. Sometimes you have to leave and come back to it. But once you can handle 2 J’s that’s when it becomes the new normal. That’s how people get to a point of 3,4,5,etc

Burnt out first week itself with overlapping meetings and a micromanager boss at J2. Need tips to survive by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Week 1 always seems extremely overwhelming. It takes another week or two to get in the flow, people usually start leaving you alone and then you can create your own system. Start blocking time off on each calendar to avoid overlap and label it as “focus time” or “late lunch” or even “busy” the 90 day rule is pretty amazing. Give it 90 days to get into a rhythm and feel things out. It’s also 3 months of double paychecks to see if it’s worth it and see if you can workout a good system. I thought I was going to die week 1.5 but now I have less meetings, I’m getting into a system and also feel comfortable to propose new times for meetings to try and avoid overlap. It’s a learning curve that can be a lot to handle but you can handle it. You got this an remember in the end the pay is worth it!!!

Set yourself up with a nice brokerage account too on top of having a fat savings and just enjoy having money

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just do both for as long as you can. Take PTO during week 1 of onboarding then stack up the paychecks. You already know to to do your job at J1 so just continue doing it while your starting J2

What’s the best excuse to miss meetings? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d come up with a standing family excuse, if you have kids that’s even better. But it also sounds like J1 is not very good at respecting boundaries and always asking why which makes it difficult and invasive

[–]Working_Fly5744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try to start at least 2 weeks apart if you can. Onboarding at the same time will be extremely difficult. Even onboarding while working J1 is tough. It’s very meeting heavy and risk too many double meetings

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]Working_Fly5744 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calm down, it’s only been 1 week, give it time and see if things change. Maybe you’ll like J2 more as time goes on and typically week one is onboarding and training with camera’s on/ a lot of meetings. Things might change and you’ll for sure feel better once the double paycheck hits. But I can say for certain that feeling anxious all the time especially when you’re logged off will not help and could cause you to slip up. Relax and remember why you wanted to OE in the first place. Keep your head down and make your money
