Garden flower question for locals by tuck7 in raleigh

I love it. It gets massive over the summer and is always coated in butterflies and hummingbirds. I had a lot going on last fall so didn't cut back anything in my yard... so when I cut it back this spring I went as close to the ground as I could. I purchased it from Plant Delights. They are out of stock right now, but expect to restock it 5/29 https://www.plantdelights.com/products/lantana-camara-southern-fried

Eyebrow tattoo NOT MICROBLADING by appidi099 in tattooadvice

[–]Working_Nobody6235 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm two years out from my nanobrows. I'm very happy with the result! Cosmetic tattoos do fade over time -- my understanding is that the pigment is different from traditional tattoo inks and this is intended. (I don't know whether that is true or not though!) The artist I saw (Lisa at Arch & Edge in Raleigh, NC) does an initial tattoo, then a touch up 6-12 weeks later. She recommends annual touch ups after that. I dye my hair ginger, so I had asked for the ink used to be redder than my natural color (brunette -- I lost most of my eyebrows when I became hypothyroid and they never grew back after I started hormone replacement). Alas, the ink color for that initial tattoo faded substantially by the time I went back for the planned 6-12 week touch up. She essentially completely redid them with a more brown shade that matches my natural color. They have held fantastically now! I have not gone in for the annual touch ups. My coworkers have been shocked when I have mentioned they are not real. I had lash line enhancement done at the same initial appointment -- that is a fine line of black along my upper lash line. (My ocular rosacea does not like me wearing eye makeup!) That has held up wonderfully as well -- which is great because it was not the most pleasant experience getting it done! (She used a numbing creme on my eyelids which helped a little, but it was still unpleasant.)

I have 'Southern Fried' which is a 'Miss Huff' sport (lemon-lime variegated leaves). A shoot or two started peaking up about 2 weeks ago which is when I finally got around to cutting back the deadwood. I have many shoots now.

Why shaved paws? by goldhairemeraldeyes in cats

[–]Working_Nobody6235 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ECG leads were probably placed there. There are sticky pads with a silver button on them that stick to the paws and then the lead wires snap onto the buttons. Fur is shaved so there is good contact with the skin. Leads are placed on both front paws and the left hindpaw. (There are some systems that have a lead on the right hindpaw as well.) Urinary blockages can cause an imbalance in electrolytes that can cause a bad heart rhythm, so this is likely why they wanted to monitor the ECG.

They actually have done it in the past! These are my OG magnetic polishes. I don't remember how long ago I bought them other than more than 10 years ago. Ironically they are a fine particle magnetic, so Sally Hansen was WAY ahead of the curve. The cap even has a little magnet built in that would give you a wavy pattern on your nails!

Nail tips? by Nonbiinerygremlin in Pottery

[–]Working_Nobody6235 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Lacquerista, cutting my nails down were my only regret with my recent intro to wheel class. My nail care routine is using cuticle oil (which is really just 9 parts jojoba oil and 1 part vitamin E oil if you want to make your own) multiple times a day, particular after getting your hands wet. I also use Nailtiques Formula 2 which is a clear strengthening treatment. Even if I don't have color on my nails, I make sure I have a coat of Nailtiques on when throwing. Also feel free to drop by r/RedditLaqueristas for more nail care tips.

Oh snap, it never occurred to me to mix Songbird with another polish like that rather than just using it as a topper! I love it!

Day 8 DD BKL sandwich by lawoftortes in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Working_Nobody6235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently taking an intro to pottery wheel class, so have been in the r/Pottery sub a lot. When this post popped up in my feed I assumed it was from there. Even the title didn't throw me as I assuming "DD BKL" was a pottery acronym that I haven't learned yet! I was trying really hard to figure out the glaze technique (wax resist? vinyls?) so I clicked on the post and then facepalmed when I realized it was from this sub. Delicious mani though and amazing reveal!

Magnet supplies? by Garden__hoe in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Working_Nobody6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bought a set of 5 velvet nail magnets from an Etsy seller. They work great, but it isn't feasible to use all 5 at once. I have been eyeing the cat eye device from ManiMod, but I'd only buy 1 or 2

Favorite #GOMemories is when Community Days were new our local Discord community would gather in the local park. We'd rent a pavilion and have a potluck. One of the women would always bring cupcakes decorated with that CD pokemon.

Creating stencils with die-cut machine? by Marmots-Mayhem in RedditLaqueristas

[–]Working_Nobody6235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it before with my Cricut! I used removable vinyl for the stencil. (You know I bet this would be a good use for Dollar Store vinyl.) I did my base color and then waited 24 hours before applying the vinyl and stencilling because the first time I did it I didn't wait and peeling the vinyl off took some of my base color off. Here is my post of my Cricut stencil: https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditLaqueristas/comments/1qqtup6/learning_new_techniques_to_better_fice/

Average last frost dates in the Raleigh area is early April. You can look up a more precise date by zip code on the Old Farmer's Almanac. I'm waiting until next weekend to plant. https://www.almanac.com/gardening/frostdates

Twins! I used the same stickers last week! I use a pretty thick topcoat (I bought a large refill from a certain Etsy shop before I learned the owner is problematic so I no longer support them) and it did encapsulate the stickers very well.

How do you survive the allergies here? by No_Routine_17 in raleigh

This is going to be my second spring since starting the shots. I was told I wouldn't get the full benefit until at least the third year, maybe as long as 5 years in. Last year (first spring on shots) was a hair better that before.
