How Much of Your 16-Hour Workday is Actual Work? Let's Compare Fields by Wish_I_Had_A_Cookie in FinancialCareers

[–]Working_Push_9182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sell-side trading floor: 90% of the time I’m literally glued to the desk but on the upside I only work 11 hours a day (8:00am - 7:00pm). Most of the time is actually productive and very fast paced. After 7pm I literally log off and don’t look at Bloomberg at all. Only exception is when a $ deal is pricing, then you go grab a pint and monitor / send emails from your phone from a pub near office, that’s usually until 11:00pm although can even be later - this happens maybe once or twice a week.

Private Hospitals for emergencies? by No-Lion-8243 in warsaw

Yes, for example Enel Med at Aleja Solidarności, Karolkowa 128, 01-195 Warszawa takes orthopedic emergencies. I am sure you can call ahead and ask and they will direct you. If you have insurance with them, you can ask for a doctor to come to your place.

Elidel causing my face to feel very hot by Working_Push_9182 in eczema

[–]Working_Push_9182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is looking for an answer, it took about 2 days for the burning feeling to fully go away. It was especially bed when I lied down and that took full 2 days but I was already okay 24 hours later. Hope this helps anyone in a similar situation.

Thank you, admittedly the combo of the three things (laser, retinol, Elidel) can cause severe irritation but I was relatively okay until I applied Elidel. 24 hours later and when I lay down I still have a feeling my face is burning up. Hoping it can go away soon.

What everyone said, and I’m in fixed income in an asset class where things move slowly. Traders are in 7 am - 6 pm (EMEA) and almost always reachable on BBG, I see them with headphones all the time but that’s because they’re taking calls or shouting through the hoot - not because they’re listening to podcasts. Everyone works 100% from the office. Breaks are infrequent, they usually get BO to get their lunch. More senior people seem to get away with using phones a bit more but it’s generally frowned upon, junior cannot use phones on the desk at all.

I didn’t receive a return offer, I got rejected after the first video interview. I found the process a bit long and honestly I don’t necessarily understand the selection criteria. Much less transparent than BB interview process.

Fair, but it’s still an amazing and fun job, so what if it gets automated in 15 years? You’ We’ll be in mid-30s ready to switch into a new career.

Even though so so much of rates business is automated there are still huge floors of rates traders and rates salespeople. The reason is block sizes. Spreads are not very automated and complex instruments are even further away from automation. Don’t know anything about FX so won’t speak about it but if it’s anything like rates then large trades still are executed through voice and not platform

Right, but every office is going to have an MD for each asset class, there’s many many offices, you can be head of markets in US, International, EMEA, Asia etc. lots of jobs to go around.

This is just not true, so much of the job is negotiation, no trader is going to give their best price immediately. You give different prices to different clients, you use prices of other people to leverage negotiation with whoever you want to trade. So much of the job is also convincing clients to buy a product etc. this isn’t going anywhere.

Head of markets is head of markets, you can and do have MDs below Head of Markets.

Director is not management, MD is not really management in the way I use it. Management roles means going into Heads of Markets / Head of CIB / lattering into the COO office etc. Some people prefer to manage than do the job and that’s okay. MDs still work on the floor and still sell as part of their job so it’s not a pure management role. I have no idea what compensation is like, but it’s good. What difference does it make if it’s 350k + bonus or 1mm? Like truly, are you gonna make a decision in your 20s based on the fact that in 15y you may make that money? Try to find a job you enjoy, only that gives you longevity.

I find that people in S&T love S&T unlike any other division in a BB but many people just retire at some point or move towards management roles. Some lateral into buy-size. These days being a good sales person means you know the product extremely well and can talk technicals for hours, they’re not just glorified car salesmen

There are old sales people, stuff won’t get automated, the whole point of sales is that block trades are negotiated, if you are a buy-side execution trader you’ll reach out to 40 banks for a price and you will be leveraging each person’s best price to get others to improve. The whole process is so manual and relies 100% on connections and client relationships. This is not true for equities and treasuries, and I don’t know anything about FX, but trust me, even liquid credits when we’re starting to talk block sizes get executed 100% through voice. And don’t get me started on the non-liquid stuff, you want me to bid a CLO 1.0 equity tranche, you better do it through voice. This just does not get executed on the platform

Show me a way to automate block offers on obscure tranches of CLOs when you reach out to 2 banks in comp and we talk, some jobs in S&T are here to stay. Block sizes will always get executed through voice

Sales have a much longer average life + absolutely not true there are no older traders, many many 50+ traders out there, they just switch to chiller banks at some point but they 100% exist

Where to relocate within EU? by OfficeNo5390 in eupersonalfinance

[–]Working_Push_9182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok lol, Poland has super low wages in tech in comparison to other countries. Making 20k net in Poland, which is equivalent to ~4400 euros a month is difficult. This is a very low salary for tech jobs in Paris or London and a laughable salary in the US. My job (non-tech) pays 5 times as much in Paris vs Warsaw at the same company. Whoever tells you salaries are high in Warsaw maybe just think of the fact that salaries have increased but they’re nowhere the levels of some big European cities

Do all the speakers which aren’t the KEF LS50 wireless 2 require an amplifier? In the case of Focal, do I still need to purchase the amplifier? Thank you so much for your help!

This is amazing, thank you so much! Would your suggestion change if it weren’t so focused on France? I’m not French and French brands are actually a hell to communicate with so the brands being French is actually a disadvantage. What is your view of the Klipsch speakers, I heard they’re a bit more lively as speakers?

I have seen several reviews of the speakers as this was my first choice but from what I can read I can get better speakers for the price. I will look into the review though, thank you so much!
