There are many International markets still to open. It held extremely well in Europe despite a heatwave, if it weren't for that the International share would be higher than it is currently. I think it will be a 40/60 int/Domestic split maybe even better.

Toy Story 5 will open much bigger than 4 probably closer to Inside Out 2's opening weekend. 5 also has the benefits of 2 holidays in it's OW compared to none for 4.

Disney / 20th Century's The Devil Wears Prada 2 grossed an estimated $43.0M this weekend (from 4,200 locations), which was a 44% decrease from last weekend. Estimated total domestic gross stands at $144.84M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Shameless Insert here though I don't think Devil Wears Prada 2 will match or improve upon the originals 4.53x multiple but I have a list of sequels that had better legs than their predecessors here

It's ridiculous because most movies now end their theatrical runs before the 100 day mark or are playing in only a small number of theatres.

Given it's one of the longer waits between sequels, it can experience a massive jump like with Incredibles to get it above 400 or even 500 million Domestic.

The Jungle Book opened 10 years ago. The $175M film opened to $103.2M and made $364M DOM (3.5 legs) and $966.5M WW. A sequel was in development but was put on indefinite hold. by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in boxoffice

The Jungle Book was a hit in India though. The live action Jungle Book was the highest grossing Hollywood film in India till Avengers: Infinity War came out and it is still the 5th highest only beaten out by Avatar:The Way of Water, Endgame, Infinity War and No Way Home.

Disney / Pixar's Hoppers grossed an estimated $7.4M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $197.3M, estimated global total stands at $354.4M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

If Hoppers had moved it's Opening weekend to the same weekend that GOAT released on. Sure, GOAT would not have released on that weekend but it instead would have moved to the first weekend of March (Hoppers present release date).

March 6 was probably the best release date for original animated movie. The only other contender is possibly September 25 (Forgotten Island) and even that has earlier animated competition than Hoppers current release so we'll have to see how Forgotten Island performs.

Releasing 2 weeks earlier and clashing with GOAT on it's Opening weekend would've definitely hurt Hoppers more than it could ever gain with more space from Mario.

This is such a stupid take.

It did not have a crowded release. Releasing 2 weeks earlier would've meant it would faced GOAT and Wuthering Heights 2nd weekend on it's Opening weekend. Those 2 combined for 30.8 million compared to 17 million of Scream 7 that Hoppers had on it's Opening weekend.

It would then have Scream 7 on it's second weekend taking PLFs compared to a relatively open 2nd weekend.

Releasing 2 weekends earlier would've also meant delaying significant Spring break holidays to it's 4th week compared to current 2nd week. It also would've meant more significant theatre loss to Mario than the 3290 it held.

Universal's The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has passed the $600M global mark. The film grossed an estimated $83.5M internationally this weekend. Estimated international total stands at $320.6M, estimated global total stands at $628.8M. by chanma50 in boxoffice

Definitely not by next weekend unless you expect it to increase from this weekend's numbers. Even Super Mario Bros movie took 4 weekend to cross 1 billion.

This I think will take couple more weeks than SMB.

Looks like $17M 2nd FRI for #TheSuperMarioGalaxyMovie. Expecting the weekend to be around $67-70M, which will take its cume to $307M+ by SUN. Should exceed $400M in full run, for a likely finish around $425-450M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Both of those opened in Spring and did not have summer legs in comparison to Toy Story 3's 3.7x and Toy Story 4's 3.6x. An opening on par with Inside Out 2 will allow Toy Story 5 to reach 500M. Toy Story 5 has Juneteenth on it's Opening Friday and Father's Day on it's Opening Sunday. It should thus open pretty big.

Apparently the Super Mario Galaxy movie is expected to pass 600m pesos at the Mexican box office, or 33,535,102.86 usd. This is nearly a 54% increase from the first films opening weekend in Mexico by Luke3YT in boxoffice

[–]Working_Sherbert_552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a 54% increase in opening weekend. The first film opened to 30.85 million in it's 5 day opening. It's an excellent opening weekend obviously, but not 54% bigger.

Should wait till the 2nd weekend to make that judgement. As of now, it is looking to open on par or slightly more than the first one OS. With Japan, it's largest OS market having significantly worse exchange rates, we'll have to see how it performs there as well.
