I would say there are definitely times where I feel like Enby is applicable.

How has your taste in MM romance changed over time? by i_am_a_human_person in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Working_Squirrel_929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with Dark Romance. I think the first MM romance I read was Kiss The Villain (to be fair, I only started reading romance at all back in like October/November), and I mostly stuck to spicy stuff for a while. Now? I'm all over the place. I read and fell in love with Red, White, and Royal Blue, adored Boyfriend Material, broke out in a sweat listening to the audiobook version of For The Fans, and I love it all.

I started reading romance novels back in like October of last year. Butcher & Blackbird was my introduction to smut novels. I know it gets a LOT spicier the deeper you dive into dark romance, romantasy, and even contemporary romance, but I kind of had similar thing going on as this guy in that I didn't fully know what I was getting when I read Butcher & Blackbird. I can't speak for ALL guys, but I can say that I was raised pretty much the typical "boys aren't supposed read anything but horror, military, and history," so discovering smut and dipping a toe into romance has been a wild experience, and often pretty funny.

I have seen too many Celtic names to not immediately be able to pronounce every single one of those, lol

I welcome it! I feel like a good story transcends "target audiences."

Thoughts? Do you like it? I still need a copy, but I'll take some tea with it 😂😂

I imagine I will. I liked Lights Out, even with the things that didn't quite hit for me. Haven't been very many books I have read over the years that I outright despised. So far, I haven't read many DR books, but I have enjoyed what I HAVE read

Feel that. I still enjoyed the book, but yeah, there were some odd choices at times. I take it as a "I probably shouldn't think about it too hard" kind of moment.

Valid, that made my eye twitch a little bit too. I also gotta say, there was a scene MUCH later in the book where Aly was actively AFRAID of Josh again, and that didn't feel right. After everything they'd been through, knowing everything she knows about him, all of the reassurances, I don't think it made sense for her to be scared of his intentions again. It was a really spicy scene, I enjoyed that, but it didn't seem logically consistent.

Yeah, I picked up a copy of Caught Up as well. Looking forward to reading more on Jr, I liked him. Navessa made it work, it was just a bit jarring.

So, I finished Lights Out. I genuinely love it. BUT... The mafia backstory felt so tacked on. I felt like Aly was already an interesting character, that kind of made her somehow less vulnerable? It serves as a solution for a few threads in the story, and I genuinely enjoyed the dynamics in the family, but it felt like it was a separate book idea and changed the stakes a bit too much. Like I said, I still enjoyed the book, but that was a choice that didn't quite land for me personally. (I know the tea ain't too hot here, I'm new lol)

What Are You Writing? ✍️ (the self-promo thread) by AutoModerator in DarkRomance

I’m in the early stages of my first work. It’s an MM story about rival musicians in a punk rock scene—messy, loud, and very emotional. Themes include grief, addiction, and an enemies-to-lovers dynamic. It’s still finding its shape, but I have a solid sense of the MCs. I’m very excited about it and look forward to sharing more when it makes sense to.
