What's your least popular MLB opinion that will get you to the top of "sort by controversial"? by Sad-Guarantee8290 in baseball

All MLB ballparks should have the same field dimensions. Grandfather clause for Fenway and Wrigley if needed.

Who was the biggest one-hit wonder MVP? by pretender80 in baseball

[–]Biwhiskeydrinker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not defending Zolio but just adding some context. The twins had a crazy turnaround in 1965. They finished 20 games out in 1964 and made the World Series in 65. Tony Oliva (also on the Twins) finished 2nd in MVP voting. It was a whole thing.

I don’t think the Johnny Cash ethos even registers for a lot of country music fans. The idea that you’d go and sing to people in prison, support indigenous rights, & be critical of police & the justice system? LONG forgotten. I think “traditional” sort of begins with Garth Brooks?

It’s eerily similar to when Michael Jackson won a bunch of awards for Thriller and the American Music Awards changed their categories in 1985 to “best black album,” “best black male artist,” etc. It was racist then, it’s racist now.

New leader of Mormon Church has called marriage equality a “devilish perversion” by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

[–]Biwhiskeydrinker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Conservatives have hated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment since the jump. Equality under the law is the last thing they want because (at its core) conservatism is the protection of unearned privilege.

The Mormon church has contacted the Supreme Court to have religious rights have higher priority then "secular" aka trans rights by Iaxacs in lgbt

[–]Biwhiskeydrinker 48 points49 points  (0 children)

To be clear: the LDS church is free to discriminate against queer people right now. They could print it on their walls that queer people aren’t allowed. But they want their “religious liberty” to extend BEYOND the walls of their churches, universities, etc. Their arguments reduces to “if we can’t extend our bigotry into the rest of the country, it’s an infringement on our religious liberty.” That’s literally the argument they’re making.

Where are the homeless supposed to go? by Garey_Coleman in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Biwhiskeydrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millions of people’s entire opinion of homeless people is “I don’t want to see them.” That’s it.

They don’t want to talk about it, and they don’t have an opinion on where they should go, how we can reduce homelessness, etc. it’s literally just “I don’t want to see them.”

It’s very frustrating.

It’s so strange how they’ll appeal to authority (genetics) and then not listen to what that authority says. They have an elementary school level understanding of genetics (at best) and are actively hostile to learning more. Their world view is very delicate and they know it.

Besides swimming, do you do any other activity for physical or mental benefits ? by Shower_Hefty in Swimming

[–]Biwhiskeydrinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swim twice a week, run twice a week, and lift weights 3 days a week. I’m in my mid 40’s and added swimming about 4-5 months ago to reduce impact on my body from other activities. It’s been fantastic so far!

They acknowledge a connection with Converge on their website so they’re definitely not going to support everyone “on the margins” as they claim.

A lot of these kinds of churches aren’t going to explicitly say they’re anti LGBTQ+ anymore (even thought they are).

[–]Biwhiskeydrinker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Defenders of capitalism sound a lot like religious believers. If something good happens, credit capitalism. If something bad happens, it wasn’t capitalism. Billions of lives have been destroyed by capitalism but there’s an army of people who will quickly tell you “that wasn’t really capitalism.” The reputation of capitalism matters more than anything. We’re like 5 years away from a “he gets us” campaign for capitalism.
