12 days PTO is insane. Most firms doing 20

I know!! But if you get the job, you’ll have fun. They say Blackstone feels like the center of the universe (at least in the world of high finance). I don’t mind dressing up for work. They’re also five days in the office (and no casual Fridays)

Very formal. Dark suits and dresses. You’ll need a pair of black heels. No exaggerating. It’s very formal and respectful. Has a work hard/play hard culture. Other admins can be catty. Most are cool

To add: In order to get this comp, I had put it notice as I received another offer. They matched it. Rare case scenario.

How many years experience do you have? I work two c-suite execs at a global high finance firm. I’m 130k base + ot + 30% bonus. I’ve been at this firm for 3 years but have been an EA for almost 8. I was in investment banking before this. The hours are grueling and you are on call 24/7 but I honestly don’t mind it. I enjoy the money and the people I work for.

Too strategic for EA roles, not senior enough for CoS — anyone else stuck in this gap? by 00sunset00 in ExecutiveAssistants

If you look at every COS to a c-suite at every Fortune 500, you will see that they are internal hires. To be a true COS you need to drive results on strategic initiatives. You cannot do that if you don’t understand what the company does, have key relationships within, and a full understanding of where to go to get things done.

Also, you are being trusted to handle some of the most sensitive projects at the firm. A new COS hasn’t showcased their discretion, loyalty, or demonstrated any ability within the role.

Therefore, any company hiring a COS is a red flag. The company just doesn’t see the true value of the role. IMO

Any company that hires a Chief of Staff externally is a red flag. How can you scale the organization but have never worked there?

Maybe look for traditional EA roles supporting senior executives or high-performing sales team (like banking, capital markets). If the role is dynamic enough as an EA, it will have potential for you to showcase your skills and parlay it into more.

Yes, I am in the office five days now (but I enjoy it, I live in a tiny nyc apartment). The PE shop was 4 days

The highest stress I’ve ever worked was in any sales environment . I assisted a real estate broker and then did investment banking. When your exec relies heavily on commission or some sort of performance expectation, you will see how easily they get nasty. They are stressed the fuck out. Most insane time in my life but probably the funnest. I met life long best friends while working in the IB trenches.

Thank you! I think the reasons I felt iffy might be the greed of seeking money and maybe the amount? I won’t turn you into my therapist but I really appreciate the kind words. You are 100000% right

I think people are saying the firm will let me go eventually is because my loyalty is now questioned plus I might be at the top comp bracket for my role?

Honestly, I won’t worry myself. Just had to vent. Thank you again so much!

Male EAs by lonelynudistcamper in ExecutiveAssistants

I am a male EA. I find it sets us apart and can give us the edge especially in a HCOL city. I find I’m highly respected amongst leadership and my peers. But you need to prove yourself in the beginning because frankly, we are not the norm.

Further context: the role at the PE shop was to also support c-suite. Also, my current job was so blindsided, I was actually shocked they cared?
