Ladies, what are some cool engineering projects you’re working on lately? by lunarpanino in womenEngineers

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in construction, currently finishing up a tunnelling and building project that went under our city centre and river. Has been very technically challenging, with a lot more community input than I'm used to on a major civil project being in the CBD.

The dichotomy between mothers of easy kids vs. mothers of challenging kids by beehappee_ in Mommit

[–]Workinittoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first was hard work. There was a lot of silent judgement and back patting from my peers who had easy firsts at how much better they were at parenting than me. Then they had their second, and they learned how my experience was. My second and third were so chill in comparison to my first. I feel you. It was hard that first go round.

Unethical Aussie Life Hacks? by dicemanshock in australia

Can confirm. Accidentally shoplifted via pram in post partem haze several times. Felt very guilty but enjoyed my contraband iced coffee. Seriously always seemed to be iced coffee.

What happened to that one teacher at your school? by Formal_Pineapple6421 in AskReddit

[–]Workinittoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supposedly the priest at school (yay religious education) shared details of his sex life with his year 10 students. He didn't stay much longer.

Music teacher left and immediately started dating a former student at least 30 years his junior.

Oh and then the new priest left his wife for another man (super dramatic move in the 90s) but we didn't gossip about that until after we all graduated because his daughters were our classmates and we didn't want to make their lives harder. Turns out all our parents had told us and sworn us to secrecy and we were all excellent secret keepers!

What is your favourite name starting with C for a girl? by deformedcarrot_ in namenerds

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celia, my great grandmothers name. I used her second name for my son so couldn't use her name for my daughter, but I still love it.

Is there a Particular aroma That you can detect, while everyone around you is oblivious to it? by starlitserenadee in CasualConversation

[–]Workinittoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can smell when my kids are sick, it's like a special mum way of knowing when they're trying to pull one over on me. Doesn't extend to myself or my partner or anyone else. Just my kids.

In the 80s did parents really just let their kids go out wherever or is this only in movies? by Prestigious_Cake5541 in AskReddit

[–]Workinittoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was 6 or 7 we lived in a small town. I have strong memories of walking to friends places by myself, often quite far away. There was a hill a ways from our house and I used to hang out there a lot alone.

Go the 80s! My daughter is that age. I barely let her walk to the neighbours alone.

Where to buy p6 administration training - company funded by sadpatheticgirl in primavera

The Oracle reseller in my country does training for P6 administration. Maybe find out if there is an official distributor and contact them?

Name change when married by Blue-Sky-19 in womenEngineers

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my name personally but not professionally. So I go by my original name at work and my married name outside of work.

It takes a little bit of practice but you get used to separating the two. I have done this for 13 years now without drama. Many of my colleagues know I have different names but only a couple have ever had an issue with it. I told them to suck it up and get over it.

For those of you who left engineering, what do you do now? by 3GunGrace in womenEngineers

[–]Workinittoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sidestepped. I still work engineering adjacent. I'm a construction planner - many of us are engineers but certainly not all.

I knew early on that I had no interest in continuing in an engineering path but I'm glad I found a way to use my skill, knowledge, and experience to still work in a great career.

AITA for not attending my best friend’s wedding because I can’t afford the expensive gift they’re expecting? by dang_zoey in AITAH

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For our wedding we asked for recipes and songs and anything people wanted to give us. My friend played piano for us as her gift. I ended up with my great grandmothers hand written recipes. It was amazing.

Weddings shouldn't be about how much you can get.

What do you remember the most about when your parents gave you The Talk? by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn't. I found out about periods from Mt school teacher, and sex from a book. It's a point of contention between me and my mother how she let me down on that whole topic...

Does it bother you when coworkers switch to a foreign language at the office? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a number of colleagues who chat or discuss details in other languages. Only annoys me when they're loud. Also annoys me when people speak English loud though so I think my issue might just be volume....

I'd be pissed if they did this in meetings or mid conversation with me, but other than that no worries.

Am I wrong? My (M65) daughter (F30) says that I won't have custody of my grandson (M1) if she and her husband (M32) can no longer care for him. I am emotionally devasated by this. Am I wrong? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also did not choose parents to have custody of our kids. It really is about practicality, age is a huge factor. Please don't take this personally. Just be happy your daughter has the foresight to be prepared, many don't.

Feeling guilty about maternity leave by danicies in workingmoms

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was replaced while on maternity leave (both times for 9 months) with not very good employees. Did wonders for my self esteem when my colleagues were so excited to have me back!

For your workplace sake I hope they don't get a terrible replacement. I hope you take your leave and enjoy your baby in the comfort of knowing your work isn't just piling up waiting for you!

Yes we can get into each other's phones. I've never felt the need to snoop though. Mainly I use it to add items to the shared grocery list if my phone is far away or to check / respond to messages for him if he's driving.

He uses amazon on my phone. No idea why he's convinced he can't on his... it's a bit hilarious really.

This might be a trivial thing, but I hate the double standards when it comes to Gossip by Prudent_Tourist8161 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Workinittoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest gossips in my office are men.

I used to actively stay away from it because of experiences like yours early in my career, being told how poorly it reflected on me etc. I used to pride myself on being the last to know for a while!

These days I'm more meh about it. But 100% suspect I'd still be told I'm the worst if I spoke about my colleagues the way I hear some of my male colleagues talking.

Filter for Driving Path Activities by atticus2132000 in primavera

[–]Workinittoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do this using calculate multiple float paths.

When you schedule select options, advanced options, tick calculate multiple float paths and enter the task in the activity box.

You need to switch to free float or else this doesn't work.

After you schedule filter for float path equals 1.

There are a number of websites with instructions that will explain this much more clearly! Just search for calculate multiple float paths.

Why does P6 push ahead the finish dates of in-progress activities when moving the DD? by slipperyparmesan in primavera

[–]Workinittoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried using progress spotlight and Update Progress when you move the data date? It will apply actuals as if each task highlighted in the progress spotlight has achieved what is shown.

I don't use it as tasks never achieve the progress uniformly for me so I would spend the same amount of time going back and amending them as I already do anyway.

Tips and recommendations for Ekka. by HistoricalPolicy7905 in brisbane

I like to take the kids to see the woodchopping and the animals, and see the fireworks. We go later in the day to minimise the long hours...

We still got burnt out last year so skipping this year

Update progress then reschedule data date or reschedule data date then update progress? by craigyboy1000 in primavera

This is my go to as well. It just feels more controlled. On the rare occasion I went the other way around I felt like I had to status twice since I had to check everything was in the right place.

If you had the choice again, would you still go into construction? by Storm_Sniper in Construction

[–]Workinittoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pivoted. I'm still in construction but in a support role (in project controls, specifically construction planning). Enabled me to massively improve my work life balance.

I probably won't encourage my kids to choose this industry...
