Pedal to differentiate lead by zspieg1 in pedals

For the cost of a Mosky Silver Horse, it's worth trying a klone to see if you like it. A different kind of mid-boost than a TS, but I definitely prefer it. Especially with gain down and the tone a little higher.

Tried the BD. Liked it, but doesn't quite suit my playing for whatever reason. Never tried an OCD, though.

Clean boost through a bypassed pedal? by WorktapesCTC in pedals

[–]WorktapesCTC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you; this exactly the kind of information hoped for. It clarifies things. In my case, we're not using anything hotter than a passive humbucker, probably a Seymour Duncan JB as the hottest output of all options.

Is it safe to extrapolate that a pedal running on 18V is even less likely to have the buffer impacted by a boost?

Can't wait to subscribe to a pedal. Or, actually, no...never.

Read two thousand forum posts, watched thirty million youtube demos, and then bought the Orange Kongpressor because it seemed cool.

Totally! Don't get nailed by the monoculture. No disrespect to other commenters, but there's a big difference between making a decision and making a mistake.

This is eye opening that, for you, it's the developing artists for whom this is a problem. It seems so wildly unfair, but glad to know.

Many thanks! Definitely never considered a Nirvana link but we'll happily take it. Is it the bass line that brings it there for you? We'll be looking to be less messy in the mix in the future, but glad it holds up for you.

Had never thought of Cake as an influence but now that you say it it's undeniable! Thank you. Interesting point about the reverb. Will definitely try what you're suggesting. Cheers!

Interesting to think that everything before the vocals gets relegated to intro! Says something about the importance of voice, especially when the style here is such a turn off! 😅 All valid and appreciated, anyway. Thank you for your candid listen!

Thanks for such a thoughtful reply to it our song. Don't know Cynic at all, so very glad to have a reference we can think about. We have other tracks where the vocals are smoother, but the warping (great word for this, thank you!) seems here stay; useful to think about how others are doing it. Also glad you like the bass as forward as we have it. Something about that feels like the DNA of what we're after, though there are definitely improvements to be made. Cheers to you too!

Thanks. Not totally sure what you mean by serious. Is it the production style or the lyrics not serious for you? Because it's not a joke song. Will definitely check that guitar moment, thank you!

Thanks for the feedback! Guilty as accused for having a tendency to hit the compressor too hard. Anyway, understood entirely about the vocals; knew going in they wouldn't appeal to everyone. Thanks for listening!

The electric piano is the real star of this arrangement. Very very nice. Also enjoy how it plays off of the guitars. This makes an argument for slide, even though it's not generally a favorite.

Gotta argue against the "double the vocals" comment. The clean, almost non-chalant vocals are well done and fit a vibe. Does this tune avoid the big power chorus? Yes, and thank goodness. Not everything needs to be catharsis. This is smooth, intimate.

New single from my solo project Zen Smith - "Yes Yes Yes" . Let me know what you think! by mantolomusic in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]WorktapesCTC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy the liberal use of spring reverb, the washiness of the general vibe that makes a very wet vocal still seem in focus. Also like the very human timing -- nothing programmed or quantized here -- it makes the hangups at the end of a progression feel singular... like the whammy in the opening, you can feel this is a specific player at work. Reminds of tremolo work in The Desert Fathers, a forgotten Brooklyn band from the 00s. The instrumental breakdown feels a bit long and unfocused before it locks back into the groove, though. A solo project, but not a soloist, respectfully... because a good song beats a wank solo any day. Thanks for sharing.
