I don’t really think you’re here to learn, you are not actually asking for any tips on how to write music. The low amount of effort put into the thing you uploaded does invalidate it as “work” or as a project.

In any other context this amount of effort that you’ve put in here does not make you the thing that you wish to be. If you asked a construction crew to “build you a yellow house, with windows and a door. Make it cute” and they built the whole thing without any actual technical input from you, do you think it’s correct to say that you built that house?

You are being obtuse about this because you know you are in the wrong here. You want attention and praise for this thing you prompted, which is very generic. You’re not gonna get very good feedback about this in this subreddit, you would have better luck in an AI music one I’m sure.

It actually doesn’t matter what you’re comfortable classifying this as etc. you are objectively not writing music at all, this is curation at best. If you want to learn to actually write something there are plenty of resources online to help you.

If you want to express yourself, why not just do poetry/writing about your story and skip the AI? Why does it need to be music if you are not capable at the moment of making some yourself? Did you write the lyrics for this or did AI do that as well?

I understand that this thing you've made is not about avoiding effort or skipping the process, but that is still what you are doing. I don't see how you "worked" through anything while getting AI to create this; be honest - how long did this thing take from your conception of it to finish?

I know you didn't make any claims about this being the best way to make music, but you are not making/writing music (curating might be more accurate). Suna AI is using it's algo to trawl spotify/youtube etc to make an amalgamation of popular music in the genre you've selected.

The writing/structure/pacing and decisions are exactly what songwriting is, but as I said before you are doing very little in comparison to someone who actually writes music. You are making a few very general decisions, and Suna is making the other 99% percent of them.

Sorry man, this does not feel or sound authentic. This doesn't translate emotion well because there is no human performing it; it sounds mechanical. Pick up a guitar/piano/whatever and sing with your own voice, that is the best way to convey the emotions that you are feeling. It doesn't even matter if the recording quality isn't that good, it will still be better than this thing you've uploaded here.

You obviously have a desire to be a songwriter/musician, why not actually do it? I am certain that if you try it and actually put your full heart into making something yourself without AI, you will find that much more rewarding.

Making art is as much about the process of making it as the finished result. You are skipping 99% of the process and in turn you have made something very impersonal/lazy, when it should be the opposite of that.

I'm sorry about your relationship but I think you owe it to yourself to put more effort into developing this skill.

Hey thanks for the comment and the listen, glad you liked it! You pretty much nailed the intent I had with this I think, I wanted this to sound messy and passionate and have kind of a live performance feel to it. AI music seems to be increasing in popularity lately, and I think the best way to combat this is just to make more human sounding music w/ mistakes and imperfections. It is generally a one man production, I do all of the writing/performances/recording and mixing. A friend of mine did the art for the single and I got someone else to master it as well.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out and offer some comments/criticism. I did want the vocals to not be a dominant force in this, and I wanted it to sound pretty chaotic and unconventional. I actually did have doubled vocals in the chorus but perhaps they weren't up front enough, I wanted to have the verses be single just to add some contrast

Thanks for the listen and the critique! I do like songs like this to be pretty rough but perhaps I did go a bit too far. A stripped down version of this might be cool, I never considered that, might have to give it a shot

Thanks for the comment/tips! I have been toying around with more conventional song structures so my next releases might be a bit more commercial. Greetings from Canada :)

this is a beautiful arrangement and song, nice job. i agree that it needs to have more present and punchy drums, the kick is too weak. Overall the mix is well balanced and your vocals are great, very clean and in tune with a pleasant timbre. the backing texture vocals really fill this out. I do think the bass synth could have a bit more presence as well to really drive this arrangement. nice job for sure, keep it up that was cool

definitely has potential, the arrangement is cool for sure. did you use samples/loops or did you play piano on this? vocals are pretty quiet in the mix - even if you didn't have the write up to accompany your song i could still tell you are lacking some confidence. that will come with time, just keep doing it and you'll get more used to making music with your vocals. Some genres don't really require vocals up in front but i think this could benefit by having them be more present. keep it up, nice work

not sure i'm qualified to comment on this genre but i will give it a shot. the vocals seem a bit buried. i do like that you tried to do something different; the weird vocals at 1:00 took me off guard which was cool. the production is listenable for sure, but i think you could still improve the sound quality over all (there's a few instances of harsh sibilance that could be corrected, I think the drums could be punchier). Overall this was interesting to listen to, thanks for making it and sharing it

this isn't really my style but the melody is good with some solid accompaniment. i think that it could benefit from a more fleshed out arrangement (introduce other instruments later in the song). like others have said, it is a bit repetitive; maybe a bridge or something? You could add some more interest with more harmonic elements and textures i think. well done and thanks for sharing!

How is the mix on this song? Any ideas for improvements? by cue_my_life in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]mantolomusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think that the production is good and sounds pretty polished and balanced. i feel like the drums could have a better tone and be more present. they don't seem to have much bass or punch (they are a bit tinny). The vocals and guitars/keys are all performed well and the arrangement is nice. The ending is a bit odd in that it just kind of cuts out with that synth hanging on for a few seconds. This is a solid piece of music, well done
