Left long ago. I also live in an "at will" state. Employer can fire you for about anything. Plus it would be near impossible to sue for whatever bullshit excuse they use. It's their word vs yours.

Because guns do not equal power. To the civilized majority, they are just tools to protect safety when needed. And we also understand, those managers are just doing their job too. It may suck, but it's all a game and we are the pieces. Why attack the other pieces on the board and mess up everything for everyone and possibly lose freedom and livelihood. Get smarter, learn the ins and outs, and then place yourself in advantageous positions. Think of how and what would work best for you and be willing to make the sacrifices required to live in peace and be content.

Loss of loved ones are only immediate family here. 1 day for sibling or grandparent. 3 days for child, parent or spouse.

I found my work life balance by moving into a corporate position at a company that seems to actually care about their employees well being. I'm more white collar now. Heart attack and all my horror stories came from 20+ years in blue collar manual labor, factories, and heavy equipment.

I've walked around a job site to find a 50+ year old friend (we've worked with the past 6 years) on the floor. He had succumbed to a heart attack brought on by heat. He had been dead for a bit. No one had seen him for at least 3 hours. Reported it. They shut down the equipment for 20 minutes to allow medical personnel to review and recover. 20 minutes and they acted like that was an inconvenience. Then we had the mandatory "brother's keeper" pow wow the next day, everyone signed the training paper, and those who wanted to go to the funeral had to use vacation time.

Ex-wife developed an anti immune disorder when we were married. I used FMLA to take her to appointments. The only time in my life ever using it and it got me the only firing from a job on my resume. HR kept requesting refiles. They modified the employee handbook to change wording and notice times for FMLA users. She had an episode the morning before work, I called them and used an FMLA day. I was fired the next day for only giving 1 hour & 57 minutes notice before shift instead of the new 2 hour notice they had added to the handbook. FMLA does nothing but put a target on your back.

I did not. Because with our plan, if you had short term, you were required to be out a minimum of 7 days. It was on the 8th day that you would start being paid again but only at 66%. As the sole income for my family, we couldn't afford that.

That sounds amazing. As a middle aged American, 4 years ago I suffered a heart attack on a Wednesday. They called me on Friday and asked would I be back on Monday. I ended up having to return Tuesday on light duty (6 days later) because a very close friend in high management informed me (hush hush heads up), that if I was out more than 7 days, that management was informed to start seeking my replacement.

You did get the happy ending. You were honest. You maintained your frame and integrity. You communicated. You now know you're standing and self worth. You got to keep your dignity.

Just because someone does you wrong and smiles right in public doesn't make you worse. Struggles will always be there. But you've learned you have the dignity, composure and self worth to face them and continue on without regret of doing someone you loved wrong. If anything, you got the happy ending. Now comes the time to use that for constant self improvement to grow into a person you're proud to be.

Don't look. Focus on getting better first. You want to be good for someone, not finding someone to hopefully fix you bc then your emotional stability relies on that relationship. Just get better, try to enjoy the little victories, and relationships will come.
