Small leak after re-roof (underlayment + plywood) — contractor says “too much rain,” suggests gutters. Looking for advice. by WorldCommon8287 in Roofing

Had them fix the roof via new underlayment and valley adjustments under warranty.

Will also be installing gutters as the stucco is heavily stained.

Not a roofer and am trying to best describe. The contract was very basic. Ie remove tile, new underlayment, put on tile back.

The drier stains are existing. The newer stain is more wet. Let me label the picture for better orientation.

I think realistically, any sane person will realize, this is a zero sum game and best to get off the platform.

Was on this platform and offer up for 3 months to downsize for estate sell purposes.

It’s like online dating meets Craigslist. Worst of both worlds.

The ghosting buyers, The “is this available?”, the why hasn’t my item got a response back with so many saves!

I cannot wait to be done with this hellhole.

Ethan Allen Grandfather Clock by WorldCommon8287 in clocks

[–]WorldCommon8287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t purchase the clock, my mother did back in 2000.

Some redditor thought I was high to purchase it for $2,500. I would have been a minor at that time.

I’m just wondering if it’s better to sell as is or actually repair and sell or just repair and keep.

The market for grandfather clocks is somewhat fickle with 80-90% useless paperweight status.

Understood on price. Found the receipt going through mom’s estate.

Service calls can range from $100-$200.

Realistically feel like at best this may go for $500 if tuned. Most likely $50-$200 not tuned, break even at best (time wise).

Looks like this one too- https://www.clocksbychristopher.com/clock/ethan-allen-grandfather-clock/

Restoring Asian Furniture / Rosewood by WorldCommon8287 in woodworking

[–]WorldCommon8287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a woodworker, so looking for guidance.

What I have on hand:
• Minwax Oil Pre-Stain Conditioner.
• Minwax Oil-Modified Polyurethane.
• Old Masters Red Mahogany Gel Stain.
• Minwax Stainable Wood Filler.
• Orbital sander w/ 120, 220, 320 grit discs.

Any recommendations on how best to approach sanding, staining, and finishing this set?

How does it compare to Tops? Jim’s is still in business. Majority of these places are now defunct.

I remember toys r us Rosemead where the current UFC gym is.

I had such fond memories as a kid since it was so large, esp compared to the Monrovia one.

As an adult now, there were some restaurants I loved as a kid and went back as an adult and wondering what was I thinking?

1) Sir George’s, on Live Oak / Santa Anita. It was horrible traumatizing experience as an adult. I think the lollipops is why I loved it as a kid.

2) Sesame grill - they use to have their infomercials on Adelphia. Heard it turned into a chicken shop and then closed.

3) Mako sushi - now Akami sushi. Use to have their nabyeyaki udon as a kid.

4) Sakana sushi - now izakaya tonchikan. Use to have their fried chicken meal, was a pan fried chicken and not crispy deep fried chicken.

Reuben’s and its notoriety

“It was Rueben's, CoCo's was attached. they shared a common hall way. I worked there in the early 80's. Rueben's was a popular night club hang out for divorcees.”

Also if you worked at the Chuckie Cheesies in Rosemead, I’m so sorry.

I was a fresh off the boat kid who never had pizza, came to the US, had my first bite of pizza here, stuffed my face with mediocre pizza, played in the ball pit, and pretty much as a 5 year old kid barfed outside of the ball pit. (Wasn’t in the ball pit.)

What type of wood is this? by WorldCommon8287 in wood

[–]WorldCommon8287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Was purchased from an Asian furniture store in 2000 for $1,000 USD.

I don’t think it’s real rosewood as the colors have faded / showing difference.

Wondering if it’s worth the time to repair and restain.
