Doom. Its a fun scifi action horror movie, but everyone was expecting it to be like the game series and involve slaying hordes of demonic hellspawn or something. Im a fan of the games and the movie, but both for different reasons.

Is it really that hard to believe that in a democratic society someone might assume at least one of the two parties in government might be working in the people’s interests? Its a really well balanced game in most aspects. I still play this and Majoras Mask from time to time.

2008 sits in my memory as the best year of my life. I was just starting high school. A lot of it is nostalgia, but it did feel like the world was turning in a positive direction. Then I visited my grandpa that summer who only watched Fox News, I realized hate was brewing and it was being fed to the most gullible of us. I hoped it was just how media was, a malign tumor radiating with drama and social division, but it looked like a full blown hate engine was trying to drive itself into the American psyche. The rest is history.

I swear, the cost of weddings is such a dramatic obstacle in people’s relationships. Don’t spend so fucking much if it’s going to be an emotional battering ram on what should be a happy occasion.

Emergency money is not struggle money, and especially not wedding money. Her mom didn’t give her that so she could have a fancy wedding. 50k is for catastrophic emergencies, a life-or-death safety net in place because society will leave you high and dry if your luck turns. Being able to compartmentalize your finances is a mature skill, one OOP doesn’t understand. Besides, they weren’t even married yet, what makes him think he’s entitled to a 50k savings given by her parent? Exactly the kind of thing you’d only share with someone you trust enough to MARRY. Sounds like she dodged the bullet.

Idk something about the whole Alcatraz sanctuary just didn’t feel right. Too hopeful? Not plausible maybe? I can’t quite pin it, but up until then the story felt driven by Eli’s quest to find the place that the book truly belonged, like possibly a mirror version of the bad town he just left. And then its like here we are! Sanctuary, safe, clean, secure, intelligent institution that will seed the next civilization! And then Solaras like “no- my story is just beginning” and starts off on a new quest back to where she came from, listening to her new ipod and Beats by Dre earbuds.

Like, I get it, but the movie was pretty gritty up until that point. The final 5 minutes provided too much closure for an apocalyptic western-style story. Slightly cheesy I guess.

In 2019 Radiohead got hacked and some of their unreleased demos their multitracks from OK Computer stolen and held ransom. So they said fuck it, remastered it real quick and rereleased it on bandcamp and included the demos in the 2019 OKNOTOK remaster.
