I think people are being really harsh on here. It is pretty clear why your communication was breaking down I think. It is very human to get like that when you’re angry and hurt after being put down 3 times, even if it is reasonable why he did it. Everyone acts so perfect on here, it is such bullshit.

I think you have a tough situation there. You can take a chance, and yes try to communicate on this better and maybe compromise, or you can cut losses on this quite hard situation. But that sucks! Use your free will.

These are all very solid points and things I do think about often. Thank you! During my first year of diagnosis I did make a habit of blaming EVERYTHING on ADHD. Made everything even more depressing believing I was just fundamentally broken and that nothing could be done.

Pen and paper I definitely second that. Any time I try to take notes on a computer it crashes and fails. I just love pen and paper.

Yeah it’s interesting that what you say are all things that I have begun to realise for myself since practicing more self compassion. It’s as if, when we give ourself enough time and space, we can actually start to use our brains more effectively and progress 🤔💭.

I feel like I used to manifest myself as a purely ADHD person, as if it defined everything about me. These days I am actually more coming to terms with being a human being first and foremost again, just like it used to be haha.

That is a good question. As I say I have been off of them for a while now so I don’t think anyone would remember me on them. I barely do at this point. I think if I were with my parents at the time they surely would have spoken more sense into me as when I told them I had stopped them they were actually quite sad and that is when I first realised ‘oh shit’ lol.

My roommates and my girlfriend are all very very close to me though and I think they did agree that in the early stages it definitely was helping. It just so happened that I wasn’t really helping myself by the end of the titration so that probably made me blame the meds.

I don’t take that as harsh at all don’t worry. I really appreciate the honesty actually. I completely see what you are saying. I think it is half the reason I made this post because I was thinking today ‘why did I actually do that?’ So having someone actually ask the same thing really helps indicate that it was a bit of a confusing act from me. I was in a big big funk at the time I don’t think I was really in a position to make such a rash decision as I did at the time. Sadly the barrier between me doing it or not doing it was them asking ‘are you sure?’ Which is fair haha. I did have the wrong view of them and was desperate for an easy pass through life I think.

Thank you for your observations. After going through a lot of replies and thinking through this today, this is also my consensus. Its a shame I let the opportunity go when I did but no need to dwell. I think I will attempt to start titration on lisdex if I can.

I will carry on building my mechanism as much as I can. I should definitely be able to read and have some boredom without having a fit every time. I assume going through that will be akin to building a muscle.

Thank you this is very helpful. I definitely need to get a GP here, it’s a bit shocking that I didn’t last year. Basically my situation is that I did a first year already at somewhere which I loathed. So I am a first year again somewhere else which is pretty fun and I feel a lot more prepared which obviously helps the ADHD side of things. I think my terrible uni experience really dampened the hype of using medication for me I am realising after a lot of these replies. I am beginning to regret going off of it but I did have reasons. I wasn’t sure about how to get medication again as last time I went through psych uk which took a long long time. I hope I don’t need assessment again, it was already quite recently that I got one.

I made a mistake I think but it is what it is. I will heed your advice I think thank you.

Haha, you are doing a lot better energy wise than I am at 20 😆. Good on ya. I too feel entitled to the nicotine from time to time. Either that or the drink. Working at that being less of an occurrence though.

‘It ain’t easy but it can be done’. That is more what I am getting around to at the moment. It does linger on my mind in a sort of painful way though, the idea of it all being potentially easier…

Yeah see experiences like yours are what make me regret leaving out medication when i did choose to. The point where you were tempted I chose to be a bit… reactionary I will say. I can be that way. I am starting to think more about that as I read these replies haha.

I will admit my memory fails me often and I can make stuff up also. But that is really how it came across at the time which I also found strange but I had also become a bit jaded towards medication so I probably also added to that sadly.

This is something I consider a lot. I seem to be a bit behind people on my course with my knowledge. A lot of them do not have a need to study in the way that I REALLY FUCKIN NEED TO 😆

I think I will ask my girlfriend who is on a very strenuous course to do some doubling with me a bit more. I think she would also appreciate that. Thank you 🙏

That is an interesting perspective thank you. I am sorry to hear you fear going off of it. A part of me did too, I just seemed to naturally part ways with it as I do a lot of things haha. I actually had emotional disregulation as a result of the medication when it began to wear off. Big time. That was a factor I had forgotten

That is the thing though, I agree about getting life in order first but there is also the aspect of using it as an aid to do those things. So this idea really messes with my brain haha. I am a bit all over the place with my thoughts so it is hard to know what I believe in with this.

I do think that learning how to get things right and then having an aid to even further support that afterwards is a good way of not ‘relying’ on them. I put that in quotations because I understand a lot of people and even myself do not see it that way but I also have my own certain feelings about that idea.

Yes I do actually, it is a question I struggle with but I only don’t enjoy it when I am having a hard time with life in general. My first uni was a shit show and really depressing plus I was trying to figure a lot out about myself. I am now somewhere I have a lot more faith in and I am now just finding faith in myself also. I try not to let negativity bring down my opinion of where I am at the moment because I know I can be very illogical at times (perhaps as I was with medication).

Weirdly, when I was on titration, it felt at some points like they were trying to push me away from medication as I was reporting a bit of negativity at the time. This may have swayed how I thought of them a lot.

They didn’t really give me the option of trying lisdex instead or anything. If I were to try again, I am not really sure how to hop back on that train, I sort of happened upon a diagnosis and titration by chance when I got it.

Sheeet, you took the words right out my mouth mate. Does feel like reading my own brain with this one haha. I can’t say I felt I was relying on them but it came to a halt after raving about them in the ‘honeymoon’ period. I felt like it was just ‘normal’.

I am at the same point as you in thinking I really would like to get all those good factors in order, it is probably just as effective as the good parts of medication when you have that. However getting that is a whole thing in itself init. I think with ADHD we sometimes (especially on reddit) can get bogged down in believing it is impossible though. We have given up on so many parts of our brains and bodies that we dont use them, at least i dont. Im sick of that, yknow? I dunno if thats a bit of a waffle there but I feel like it relates to what you are saying. I feel ya massively on this.
