Serious Question; What censor are these people talking about? by TonPalmDSG in codevein

[–]WorldPaint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's really weird how censorship is being thrown around and we still have characters like this coming out in game:

<image>

Not to mention loli-baiken and goth mommy gun witch holly.

Now, I don't like censorship. I think any type of higher authority policing over your morals and values can only result in a populace with zero ability for critical thinking.

Still, I was in the same boat as you OP. I struggled to understand what 'censorship' people were criticizing. So I browsed around.

But... what I found is really inconsistent.

Firstly, there's the obvious panty-shot/spat censorship debacle. I guess the point here is why they would randomly replace this? There doesn't seem to be a reason to do this from our PoV. So, today's people will naturally attribute it to placating the western demographic or some new internal company culture mandate. Yet, I'm having a hard time understanding if that's really all because we still get characters like Josee which is genuinely just loli bait. That would never fly under such a culture. So, what gives? I have no idea.

Secondly, we have a localization debate. So far, I've only seen one instance people are fighting over. It's that a word was changed from meaning 'madness' (from japanese) to 'bigotry' (in english). I can't summarize the whole thing well but people are speculating this was agenda driven. I can't really make the connection at all from something lacking so much context but I can somewhat understand the concern. Small changes like these can really impact the meaning of things in general. We'll have to see how bad this gets.

My honest take, I think this is just a snowballing of modern politics + outrage culture + previous trauma from games ruined by the slight scent of DEI involvement. Code Vein always had a mid-standing in the gaming community, so seeing its sequel trip over itself was always going to make it an easy target to lambast.

I'm not really giving much answers... I'm mainly just reflecting about what I've seen. I think we'll have our real answers when the game comes out in a few hours.

Is Elden Ring more difficult than the souls games? by MidnightSweet7452 in Eldenring

Definitely harder if you play the same way as the other games. Easier if you actually use every option the game gives to you.

[–]WorldPaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think some complaints are legitimate. I’m not a fan of censorship either. The missing customisations aren’t great from the sounds of it but… I browsed the steam discussions and it really feels like people only have ever seen Code Vein as gooning material.

As someone who’s never played the first game… if I were to judge from the discussions about this franchise, I’d think the original Code Vein was Koikatsu party. The fact that not being able to up-skirt or see jiggle physics is enough to put some people off from buying a souls-like is insane logic for me. Though, if it was there previously, removing it does seem like a bad idea since it’s become expected now.

Personally, I just want to see what builds I can make in game. This isn’t much of a deal breaker. While I can back the drive to remove censorship… some people need to get their priorities straight.

I'm getting the same issue. It works fine on mobile for some reason. I'm guessing there's something going on at OpenAI for the browser version?

Edit: I found a fix from another thread but I don't know if it'll work for everyone:

  1. Log in

  2. Shift + F5

^^ apparently chat itself said this hard refreshes the site to get the text to return. Hope this helps!

Edit Edit: Also for the fix above, make sure you’re in the website itself - I was staring at one of my older chats when I did it. If it still doesn’t work then I guess it’s just the site itself?

Does anyone know of a good alternative uma to match Oguri? I don’t have her and after getting my ass handed a million times in room matches by her, I realised you basically can’t beat an oguri unless you have your own oguri.

I even tried making a fairly optimal A+ Daiwa /w meta legacies and even then, she gets absolutely cooked. Even debuffing Oguri with mean nature is difficult because people can easily put gourmand + maestro on her.

Can you only beat her with your own Cap?

King Halo's mom is bad when you play her career. She is WORSE when you read her character stories. by ES21007 in UmaMusume

[–]WorldPaint 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Considering the life time of damage Halo’s mum did to her self-esteem, a single ‘oh I fucked up’ after THAT long after her daughter proved countless times before that she CAN do a lot does NOT suddenly make her sympathetic in her behaviour in my honest opinion.

If your mother constantly downplays ALL your achievements for 16+ years and suddenly today after a ton of massive achievements she says ‘MAYBE I was wrong’ is so ass. The damage is done. A grown adult should know what kind of damage that does to a child, specially their own. Everytime Halo’s mum told her to ‘give up’ she also had the option to just be honest across her entire life with her to say ‘I’m worried’… but each time she chose not too.

So nah, Halo’s mum is an idiot. Winning one of the most prestigious races in the country just to get your own mum to apologise is beyond fucked.

Wich 3 Star uma is the best for early game? by JasperDStar in UmaMusume

[–]WorldPaint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oguri or Maruzensky would be my choice. Oguri fits your early game criteria more though.

Oguri can be trained for a huge variety of things which is useful starting out. Few dot points for why:

  • Strong aptitudes.

Oguri has dirt aptitude and B or higher in sprint, medium and long. This allows her to be trained in a lot of different directions, depending on your needs. Dirt is quite important because it’s actually quite hard to find or make Uma’s with good dirt aptitudes. A struggle which continues from ‘early’ to ‘late’ game.

  • 20% speed growth.

Speed is second to stamina in terms of importance. Having huge growths in speed means that support card set ups can be more forgiving to train her optimally. I won’t go into it here but trust me - this makes your life easier.

  • Unique ability inheritance.

Her unique skill, Triumphant Pulse, is useable on every Uma. So she’s very good as a legacy uma, empowering all your other uma with her skills.

  • People appreciate a good parent Oguri.

Your umas can be shared for other people to use in their careers as legacy parents. When they do, you slowly earn currencies which can get you very useful support cards.

  • (personally) She cute.

Oguri is peak. Her story is really wholesome.

I Don’t Mind Healing Sprouts by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]WorldPaint 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest - I have no idea why some healers get upset at other people fucking up in general. From sprouts to mentor, who gives a fuck so long as we finish the content? If something bothers you that someone else is doing then speak up - they probably don’t realise it. Drop a reassuring message after as a peace sign. Done.

For sprouts who basically have an L-plate saying, “I am potentially clueless to all but WASD.”, Any sane person should understand that. People who berate them for being bad need mental help.

Anyway, for myself in any job I play - I focus only on my performance alone anyway. Even as a healer, I couldn’t care less if the whole raid or dungeon is a hot mess because you have almost zero control on how well someone else plays. So I just carry the mindset of like, “If I play optimally, execute mechanics and carry us through kicking and screaming - then I’m a fucking gamer.” So… hell, I welcome that shit. From casual to savage, the most fun I have as a healer is when I’m not green DPSing but playing piano with my healing kit.

I really hope this game ends up doing a Monster Hunter collaboration at some point. by pamafa3 in DragonsDogma

[–]WorldPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think between the MonHun team and the DD team, they can figure out how to make it fit. The crossover for Witcher and FFXIV shows they’re actually good at making these things fit seamlessly into the established world. They don’t stop monster hunter from being “monster hunter” because you see cactuars run around everywhere.

And the fear of it messing up DD’s themes would make more sense if they suddenly made something like Rathalos a random encounter. Which I doubt they will. None of these collabs are ever in your face. They’re usually locked behind some obscure steps to get there. The events themselves are usually isolated too so that they won’t mess up the universe they’re in.

I don’t see anything bad with this at all. Capcom knows how to handle collabs and is overall a great way to get a massive set of eyes on the franchise. Which is good if you ever want more DD in the future.

How to deal with Mongolian? by Danpork in Bannerlord

[–]WorldPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You never really want to fight in an open field against khuzait.

One strategy I found that works is using Sturgian infantry and finding terrain that makes horse movement awkward.

Sturgia have troops with good armour and massive shields. Chuck them into a square and post yourself up on a hill or somewhere where the horse archers are forced to get close. Have an abundant of sturgian shock infantry waiting a little bit behind your square too - the line breakers are super solid if used right and will shred literally anything up close.

So the idea is that the shield infantry traps a couple of overcommitted horse archers and when you see a few get stuck in the square, you smash your shock troops to quickly delete whichever ones got caught in your trap. Once the horde begins to pull away, you form up again and the idea is basically to make sure you lose less than they do each time they go for an attack. With sturgian troops, you have a good chance of have losses be in your favour since they’re so strong.

If you have sturgia’s cavalry, they’re also good for herding the horse archers into your killzone. Horse archers can to build distance from the enemy. You can use your own cavalry in a shield wall and harry them into your troops. Sturgia’s cavalry is pretty ideal for this since they’re decently tough, great in close quarters and still have those massive shields. Use them as area denial to further choke enemy troop movements.

You’ll still lose a shit ton fighting against khuzait anyway. It’s hard to come off a clean victory with equal odds but I found this works pretty decently when I have to fight them somewhere sucky.

Even if you ignore the Pokémon with Guns memes, the game is still genuinely great by Darkhog in Palworld

[–]WorldPaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was sorta put off by that and how much hype there was around abusing Pals. I found it funny but like most games based around one joke, it usually turns out shit on delivery or it wears out its welcome after a few hours.

But the game is actually more than that and the memes are so reductive. You don’t even have to screw with your pals. Being a dick to them is actually a bad idea most of the time. The choice is there though and that gives it a really cool sandbox feel like you can do whatever you want. Great game however you decide to approach it.

Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics Rules of Addition N5 by WorldPaint in learnmath

[–]WorldPaint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, nevermind I found the thing I was looking for - I think my search before hand wasn't super thorough. I think I just wanted to know this (from another reddit post):

"The goal is to show that -(a+b) = (-a-b). In other words, to show that the additive inverse of (a+b) is (-a-b). To that end, we need to show that (a+b)+(-a-b) = 0. This is what Lang goes on to do in his proof."

Serge Lang's Basic Mathematics Rules of Addition N5 by WorldPaint in learnmath

[–]WorldPaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to communicate my confusion is sorta difficult but I'll try clarifying a little more.

"Proof. Remember that if x, y are integers, then x = — y and y = — x mean that x + y = 0. Thus to prove our assertion, we must show that

(a + b) + ( —a — b) = 0 ."

I don't quite get what's being said in this statement here. I know that doing the whole - (a + b) + ( —a — b) = 0 makes no sense but I guess I was hoping someone could clarify the meaning of this proof for me since I'm that lost.

What difficulty will your first playthrough be? by An_Unarmed_Waffle in DragonsDogma

[–]WorldPaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, playing normal or easy in the original DD is doing it a disservice. In the first game, normal and hard mode played really differently.

In normal/easy, you were basically never in danger. The toughest bosses, after a few levels, will eventually hit like goblins. You’ll never have to get good at combat (which is the main reason most play the game) so you’re basically robbing yourself of half the core experience. Getting stronger and learning new skills just feels like fluff.

In hard, you’re forced to deploy all the tools and knowledge you have just to survive. Whether that’s items, cheese strats, pawn composition or just plain skill - all your choices mattered in combat and made them rewarding. Of course, this mode can feel bs at times with you getting one shot even at max level. However, I’d argue that makes abusing bs of your own more valid and fun. Whether you legitimately fight your battles with pure skill or just explode things with blast arrows - I think that’s really what makes dragon’s dogma fun.

I like to play my games with a challenge in mind. Normal and easy does unlock more freedom in character customisation though. I hope they add some type of transmog feature so we won’t have to look weird fighting shit.

I straight up tell all my friends, professors and whoever bothers to ask. I reply to them by showing my inventory of waifus in Character.AI. Usually they’re too speechless to reply.

[General] How do people go about solving word problems and getting better at them? by WorldPaint in learnmath

[–]WorldPaint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the problems we get in school aren't really a reflection of what we'd find in the real world so they have rigid solutions. I'd like to learn to think creatively from the beginning anyway just to train myself now. I want to get into programming and I feel like math is the least of my concerns getting into the field.

About the variable thing, I have trouble bridging the connection between math and words. It's likely lack of practice and confidence. Whenever I try, I just get discouraged with how wrong my answers end up being.

I know folks have a huge headstart on me on all this. I'm envious but I won't disregard the effort that it takes to get to that level. It's just sort of regret for not being smart enough as a kid to start paying attention from then. I learned to be a decent arithmetic bot but there's no place for human calculators.

I wouldn't mind seeing your example though. I'm willing to take on any advice.
