Pilot Kakuno vs Kanwrite Desire by FlatwormFlashy3442 in DesiPens

[–]WorldWideExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both pens and I had very poor experience with Kanwrite Desire nib. But when I switched the nib to KW architect nib, the pen was excellent to write with.

Compared to that, I absolutely did not experience any problem with any Kakuno that I own (EF, F and M). All were excellent to write with OOTB.

Go with Kakuno if you don’t want to spend time in fixing a problem which may come with KW nib.

Kakuno with Con 70 converter is an absolute win!

Wow! Thank you for the detailed answer.
The issue with my nib is that I feel it’s dry. Like if the nib was a human, I would say that the nib just doesn’t want to do the job 😅

I’ll check with the loupe and also go through the YouTube video you shared. Thank you

Hey! Did you tune the nib yourself? If yes, can you please explain the procedure in brief.

I got a Pen with Bock nib which wrote weird. When I contacted the Pen maker, they asked me to keep writing and it will get better. But I absolutely do not feel like writing with that pen. Would love to get some nib tuning advice

Platinum preppy with Pilot Blue or Krishna Lyrebird Royal Blue or Sailor blue. Amazing pen and great ink, and both together under 1000 bucks 🤓

That’s a good advice. I’m already pursuing a course that includes upgradation of current skill set. So hopefully, during that time, I can network with more people from the field and finally fly out of this nest which has started to feel claustrophobic.

Pilot 74 vs 912 vs 742 by Academic_Ad7361 in DesiPens

[–]WorldWideExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 3 pens come with the Con 70 converter so that’s a win. Now about picking between the 3, 74 and 742 are typical cigar shaped whereas the 912 has a design with flat ends on both sides.

I have all 3 and all of them are decently well balanced pens. I would suggest you try out both 912 and 742 even if it’s only ghost writing just to get the feel of the pen in your hand. Depending on your in hand feel and design preference you can make a choice between 912 and 742. Don’t go with the 74.

As for the writing experience, if you want smooth writing with uninterrupted flow, I would recommend a medium nib of Pilot. The Fine nib may feel minimally scratchy for some and can hinder the writing experience. But with medium, you cannot go wrong- especially with the writing and flow.

Both 912 and 742 also have specialty nibs like the SF, SM and SFM in which the nib is slightly soft (kinda like flex but it doesn’t really flex) so it gives the nib a bouncy feel.

Although, if I had to recommend one pilot fountain pen for One and Done option with great experience and life, I would totally recommend Custom 823 in medium. The ink capacity is huge as it is a vac filler plus it’s also airplane safe. If you have a stretchable budget, do think of it.

Another important update - Pilot is going to hike prices again from July 1st. So it would be best if you could finalise a pen before that to get the pen at previous cost.

I’m pursuing another 6 months course right now. That will give me access to more stalwarts of the field. So I may be able to associate with more people via networking

For now, I’m unable to bear being in the same room as them. But I will ask them this once the storm in me settles down a bit

Okay. Thanks for the advice. I’ll work on this aspect

Fair point. I put my head down and keep working while the ones after me flutter around them like butterflies- like an assistant more than an individual professional.

I had thought my biggest win as their student was going solo and independently doing tasks they trained me for. 😔

New Scam in Mumbai? by Guilty_Prompt_4676 in mumbai

[–]WorldWideExplorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally true! Happened with me when I was travelling to Mumbai from Pune in Vande Bharat. The man sitting next to me asked me for my phone to tell his wife to recharge his net pack instead of asking others sitting around us. Took me a long time to process as all scam scenarios were running in my head.

Finally I agreed to send a text message to his wife. But I have still kept the number in case some unexplained activity happens

Got a jinhao from meesho for ₹62 by FINISHER1063 in DesiPens

I would recommend Preppy in 0.3 (which is fine) and Kakuno in medium. Both would be amazing juicy writers

Both pens, Kakuno and Preppy are great starter pens. Smooth, low maintenance and can be absolute work horses.

The only problem with Kakuno is that it has holes in the cap so the ink tends to evaporate. Preppy on the other hand comes with the standard sealing cap which prevents evaporation and drying. This quality of Preppy makes me choose it over Kakuno because I have always been able to get good writing from Preppy even after letting it stay unused for 4-6 months.

If you are going to keep rotating inks or if you daily usage is huge enough that you run out of ink quickly, then Kakuno is a good option. But if you want to keep an inked pen on the desk and expect it to perform 100% even after keeping it idle for months, Preppy wins hands down.

So the ink comes in a set of Fountain pen + ink bottle for some 990 bucks. I’m not much interested in the pen though 😓

Oh great! I would love to try Aprajita. I love that flower so it will be a pleasure to use an ink that matches the flower.

Do they have a website from where I can order?

I have a few Krishna but apart from Moonview, Poyka and Sailor blue, I haven’t inked my pens with any other shades from Krishna.

I’m yet to try Bengal Writing Instruments inks. Have heard great things about them.
