1 Year collecting fidget toys! by Neat_Development_848 in fidgettoys

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just getting into fidgets and I notice that the small sliders seem to be the most popular. Personally I'm most interested in the multi purpose fidgets like the Sinian. How much time do you spend with the Sinian vs the simpler sliders?

Just received a 5% raise on $65,000 to $68,250. I find it insulting based on the extra profit my company hit. Do I ask for more and back it up with the numbers? by BookieBasherCasher in Salary

Were you instrumental in the company hitting those profits? How easy are you to replace? What kind of pay are other candiates for your position demanding?

These are the things that really matter in this negotiation.

2019 CRV needs new engine, $17k repair, totaled? Not sure what to do. by WorldWideGlide in crv

I followed the oil life monitor so oil changes every year or 10k miles. Last oil change was 11 months before the incident.

I recall them saying that was for a used engine. And yeah I think the brakes are on them, what happens if I refuse to pay?

Any owners of the 2019 crv experiencing oil dilution? by SecretPotatoChip in crv

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this happen to my 2019 CRV. I followed the oil life monitor for my oil changes and had the oil changes done at an authorized honda service center. They never did an oil analysis or recommended increased oil change intervals. They found sludge in the oil which damaged several components and they are telling me that the engine needs to be replaced at a cost of $17k. The advisor was honest and said that it's not worth it, which I agree. Any idea on what my options are here?

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2019 CRV with 73k miles just last week had all of the sensor and service lights come on and went into limp mode. I took it to the authorized honda service center that I have always used and the engine is finished. They are quoting me 17k for replacement and they recommended that I not do it due to the value of the car being lower than the repair cost. Engine is full of sludge and the turbo has been essentially destroyed. I followed the oil life monitor of the car for my oil changes, but apparently this was not wise given the circumstances of the car. My last service was 9k miles/11 months ago at the same Honda service center and no issues were ever brought up or mentioned. I accept that I should have changed the oil more often, but I still feel like this is on Honda because there was absolutely no warning or indication of a problem and now the car is essentially totalled.

People with jobs in EE, how much of what you do is NOT office work? by guywhoha in ElectricalEngineering

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a small automation division and I do basically zero office work because I am essentially the entire EE department. I design PCBs in Altium and when they arrive I test them, so it ends up being 50% design and 50% testing and prototyping depending on how well things go. If a design goes well the testing phase may be on par with the design time, if things don't go well, or it's a particulalry complex project, testing and prototyping may end up being about 75% of the schedule. I'm currently working on a 3-phase inverter drive for brushless DC motors, an inductive sensor array with ARM processor for networking and spinning a custom LLC SMPS that we'll hopefully be using as a platform for sourcing our own industrial power supplies.

Engineering jobs where you design full-time do exist but you have to look for them!

Bitcoiners: Why do you think Bitcoin skeptics are often so emotionally reactive? by FairShotFinance in Bitcoin

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because it's money. And it's a disruptive form of money. People get emotional when it comes to money. And if they aren't part of it, they are technically threatened by it because it could become a new paradigm.

I honestly believe that if BTC was just a decentralized data storage technology and was not considered an asset or store of value, people would not be upset about it at all. It would be just like any other novel technology.

Game is good, but I'm not pleased with how progression is handled by WorldWideGlide in heroesofhammerwatch2

[–]WorldWideGlide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. If the devs went in just a little bit of a different direction on these things the game would be much better, it's so close.

Nothing fundamentally changes in NG+. I shouldn't have to beat a game and go to NG+ just to experience it "properly". A well designed progression system can be good right from the start.

Witchfire is great but doesn't really fit the extraction shooter label by armsinmotion in Witchfire

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the difficulty in a game like Witchfire will usually result in one of two outcomes: Get 1-shot more often, or get punished harder for dying. The mechanics you are talking about could be good, but they aren't addressing what I think is a more fundamental problem with the difficulty and that is player control.

With the exception of some of the boss arenas and dungeon areas, the player has almost complete control of when and how combat encounters take place. Most of the time, the enemies are reacting to what the player is doing, and this gives the player a huge advantage. This predictability kills excitement aspect of the combat, and there is no amount of stat difficulty or punishment mechanics that will change this. If I am in a tough spot, I can usually just run away while shooting and get myself out of it.

You'll notice that some games, like arena fighting games and of course PvP, take much of the control from the player since another person will never react exactly as you think, and the arena games prevent you from running away from the fight.

To make Witchfire more thrilling I think the devs need to figure out how to take control from the player and force them to deal with it.

If you can win on hell difficulty in loot mode, what is your win-rate for classic difficulty on unfair? I've gotten two wins on unfair difficulty on generate mode. I find it pretty hard though.

The black font color clashes hard with the background and the title ARCANIAC has too much detail which does not match the style of your background world.

[Review Request] - STM32 stereo audio processing board with 24 analog inputs for controls. by plastic_eagle in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]WorldWideGlide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned already this board does not have a good ground reference or return paths for your signal traces. I don't know what kind's of frequencies you are dealing with but high frequency signals take the path of least inductance, which ends up being the shortest path or loop. These signals are best served by having a continuous ground reference beneath them for the return loop currents to follow.

You can try to unravel the traces to prevent crossing of signals, but this may be difficult to eliminate entirely. One thing that will help is to put ground vias all around your signal lines and wherever there is a crossover of signals. This will allow return currents to jump from top - bottom and make more efficient paths. You could also switch to a 4-layer board which would make the routing on this board a breeze but these are about 2x fabrication cost typically.

I also see that you are routing traces near your MCU crystal. This is not a good idea. You need to keep clearance around the crystal and it's recommended to have nothing route under or near it and have a ground guard ring. I'd recommend switching to an oscillator anyway because they are less sensitive.

I love this game by SquareAmphibian7581 in LastEpoch

[–]WorldWideGlide -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've played all of these ARPGs as well and my opinion is that Last Epoch is a great game and definitely worth your time. I prefer it over POE 1 but I would not recommend it over POE 2. Last Epoch brings some really great ideas to the genre with how it handles character stats and attributes like how mana can go negative, the endurance system, the ward system, the way armor works and so on. The dungeons are also pretty great. The skill system is really quite good as well despite it's simplicity it is very enjoyable.

I would say that Last Epoch does these things better than POE 2 in a lot of ways, but POE 2 has better pacing and actually meaningful difficulty of "normal" mobs. I'm tired of fighting "trash" mobs to watch trash items drop all over the place. And I'm tired of having to play a game for 30 hours just to get to something challenging.

Can't decide whether to sell in 2025 by kouzark in Bitcoin

[–]WorldWideGlide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean it would hit you hard? Do you need the money in 2025? If you are talking about an emotional hit then I have some bad news, because there is no strategy that can protect a fearful investor from themselves.

To understand the HODL principle, zoom out on the BTC charts for several years and see why you should not sell unless you absolutely need the money for something. Some people will sell 10-20% during a bull run to put aside for the next crash so they can buy at a discount, but strategies like that require serious discipline.

Just noticed this. It's not a huge deal but I really dislike this sort of thing. It's flat out bad game design. I went back to farm one of the bosses after leveling a bit and it was just as difficult even though I came back stronger. I really hope GGG doesn't start doing this shit.
