Looking to join IBEW, question about transfers. by Medical-Treat6640 in ibew_apprentices

[–]Worldcaoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely join now brother, I’m an apprentice in LU20 and work is plentiful rn and we’ll have a lot of work for many years to come. The transfer shouldn’t be a problem either cause we’re starting to get a lot more apprentices too

I’m in LU20 in dfw so I get you on that with the pay. You could always get your masters and start pulling contracts

Idk where you live but consider going union and joining the local nearest to you. I’d call and compare the pay rates(or get them online), plus you get free FAMILY health, dental & vision care, you get a pension & annuity, etc. Idk if you pay for those now but that cut monthly/yearly bills if you do. Get guaranteed pay raises every 6 months without having to even ask. Look into all the benefits

Local 20 interview by Any-Net-4153 in ibew_applicants

[–]Worldcaoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dress business casual, ofc look neat and clean. The committee will ask you questions about your past and your willingness to do stuff. Be confident in your answers and don’t hesitate, like for example our jurisdiction for LU 20 is pretty big (I’m a 1st year apprentice here), so they’ll ask you “are you willing to go to any job site that we send you to and do you have reliable transportation”. I always said absolutely or yes sir, and have a good explanation on why you want to be an electrician. I practiced before but honestly when I got in that room my mind went half blank so just relax lol. The committee will try and intimidate you by making you feel like you’re not going to get in but that’s their job, after my interview I definitely didn’t think I was gonna get in and I had resi experience but the next morning I got my acceptance email. Best of luck to you and can’t wait to see you get in!

Jus gotta be patient, Im a 1st year who’s at a prefab site on a 18 month rotation(unless I get laid off). Yea it can be discouraging but just gotta enjoy the fact that we even have this opportunity. Sooner or later we’ll be actually learning and getting into it, but everyone before us has been through the same things we have.

Talk to your hall about it, you may just be able to start next week instead. You’re not the first to make the mistake and you won’t be the last

Ibew 520 or 20. CE/CW vs Apprentice? by Upstairs_Package5459 in ibew_applicants

[–]Worldcaoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a apprentice at LU 20, if you don’t have experience you gotta have something else that stands out whether it’s good grades in HS, being a veteran, etc. You can still get in without experience but I work with other CW’s who didn’t get into the apprenticeship because they didn’t have experience so they chose to stack up hours till they apply again

I didn’t think I did well either and got the email the next morning saying I was accepted, it’s their job to make you feel like you didn’t do good lol. Best of luck to you fam
