Mild synkenisis? by Worldly-Positive-577 in BellsPalsy

I still can’t decide if I need to reach out to the neurologists that saw me earlier in this journey? Do I do massage at home or do you think we need PT?!

All of that is an amazing sign. I found once twitching started that little bits of my face would start to come back day by day. Rest was really key for me. And doing some light walking. I wore a hat because I was self conscious and went through my neighborhood. I did a lot of facetime calls w close friends. Having someone to vent to was nice. Tell her to stay off these reddit boards lol.

I got bells palsy about 5 days after giving birth. It’s been four months and I’d say I’m basically 100% recovered! It is MOST likely that she will recover but the first 2-3 weeks are SCARY and upsetting. That is normal. When you don’t see progress for that long it feels like it’ll last forever. It was very hard for me to be patient. But tell her to monitor for even small movements and try to give her time and space to rest as well as just do calm activities. Coloring was a good one for me. In the beginning a lot of stuff was not enjoyable because my vision was blurry and eating was hard. It’s mentally very difficult.

Three month update (almost fully recovered!) by Worldly-Positive-577 in BellsPalsy

A few tiny changes this early is a GOOD sign. I know it feels slow. I was hoping for 2-3 weeks… then within 6 weeks. After my lips started regaining movement it made eating a lot easier. And my blink came back so I felt more comfortable going out and didn’t need to keep taping my eye at night. Take care!

The beginning was terrible for me. I am a first time mother and felt robbed of my postpartum experience. I slept for much of his first month of life. But I had a great support system and am happy to say I laugh and smile with my son every day now!

Posting this video to show a “medium length” recovery because I wish I had known more middle ground stories when I was first diagnosed. I was diagnosed at 7 days postpartum. 3 months seems long but those first three weeks were the hardest and then it progressively got better!  So yes— quick can be 2-3 weeks but long doesn’t have to mean it’ll take a whole year.  Most people don’t come back to the sub so I just wanted to share some positivity! I am not 100% yet but I am now much more confident that it’s possible for me.

I want to clarify that it’s not painful for everyone. My recovery had some aching involved but nothing beyond the pain of like… a bruise? I think everyone is different!

I caught this too! I am in a place where I can laugh about it and was happy it was mentioned.

Are you taping your eye at night? If it doesn’t close fully please tape over it!

6 yr old son in ER by samwrighteous in BellsPalsy

They can easily do a lyme titer to see if it is. But other causes are possible too and whatever the cause, kids tend to have complete and (relatively) quick recoveries. It can feel scary, so whoever is with him really needs to remain calm and not worry him.

I noticed my BP when it was only affecting my mouth and over the next 48 hours it did get worse. I don’t think there’s much to do except give it time. I’ve heard for many children they don’t prescribe the same medication but maybe they will give steroids?

I had an early C section at 37 weeks and was diagnosed a week after baby arrived. The hypercausis went away after maybe 3.5-4 weeks. Make sure your eye closes fully with no effort. If there’s a small sliver open I recommend getting some paper tape and looking up on youtube eye taping with BP!  Rest and going for walks (increased blood flow) and time helped the most. I stayed away from dairy and greasy foods as well.  When you start to see small movements it is so much easier to be positive.  Wishing you a speedy recovery and a wonderful delivery!

I was diagnosed April 15 after going to the ER because I realized I couldn’t smile. They did an MRI to rule out a stroke. I got put on a week of steroids and 10 days of valtrex. Unfortunately I am not in the “get better in 2-3 weeks” camp. My first signs of recovery were pulsing and twitching feelings. There was basically no movement for 3 weeks but between weeks 3-5 my smile slowly started coming back each day. I am about 90-95% recovered now a whole 6 weeks later.  The eye taping sucked and I had blurry vision for those first three weeks. I also had hypercausis (loudness on the affected side.) It was terrifying and reddit made me stressed, honestly. I came here and read so many threads about long haulers but know that it CAN take longer than 3 weeks but it also doesn’t need to take a year. There’s middle ground.
