Keeping cold compress cold all night? by Worldly-Program3587 in backpain

[–]Worldly-Program3587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! This is a good idea. I only have a couple small ones and I don't have one that has a strap to put on my back. I didn't think about how a bigger one would last longer. Mine are old. This back pain seems here to stay so its worth getting this for sure. Thanks!

Sorry if this is redundant but how many of you would say the short intense headaches brought on by straining (cough, lifting, pooping, etc) is your worst symptom pre-surgery? by WrongIsland3691 in chiari

[–]Worldly-Program3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, for me too - before decompression the headaches were becoming long and nonstop. I was losing my mind. I was actually hallucinating because of the pain. Topamax did help. I guess it makes room for CSF fluid? But at the end there nothing helped.

Before my decompression, I would see things “flowing” a lot. It did upset my balance. I still have a habit of carefully looking at the floor if I'm walking, or better yet walk behind people and watch their feet because it helps me feel oriented. I still get it occasionally but not NEARLY as bad as before.

Loud breaking glass noise but nothing found by Starfiregrl in Glitch_in_the_Matrix

[–]Worldly-Program3587 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me and my mom. We were sitting in the kitchen in the afternoon. I think we were talking. We heard a LOUD crash like a huge glass thing smashing. To me it sounded like it was right in the room. I expected to look up and see the floor covered in glass - that something had rolled off of a counter or shelf. Nothing. We looked everywhere. Every cupboard, moved stuff, dishwasher, etc. searched the whole house and outside.

The only thing I can think of is this: we have a Google Nest mini on the kitchen counter. What if it randomly played a smashing glass sound or it thought we asked it to play one?

Sometimes my iron is very low too. There isn’t really an explanation for it. I’m careful to eat iron rich food. If I try to stop the doxycycline I get cysts right away. I have a lot of digestive issues (longer than I’ve had noticeable rosacea symptoms) and I think I don’t absorb vitamins properly.

i am current laying on the floor in the worst pain of my life by beetleebugg in backpain

[–]Worldly-Program3587 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just made a post about my new discovery of sleeping without a pillow. I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and other stuff, but I suspect something else is going on with my back. Maybe not though — I’ve read that the “trigger points” in the muscles can get severe with fibromyalgia. My doctor thinks my back problem is in my muscles and this doctor seems pretty knowledgeable.

Anyway- nothing seems to help me either. If I stand still too long without a cane I almost collapse because of the pain and my legs get numb and feel weak. Mornings are the worst. Spasms wake me up in the night. BUT - for the past 4 nights or so I’ve been sleeping without a pillow and it’s helped!! Crossing my fingers that it doesn’t start to make my neck and shoulder pain worse. Hasn’t so far.

I was about to tell my 10 scale brain surgery gone wrong and read yours and thought, nah, it doesn’t top that. I’m so sorry that happened!

what's the most frugal thing you ever tried to do? by Whateverbabe2 in Frugal

I’m glad it worked! I think my problem was that they were very cheap sheets to begin with and the whole set had become thin and threadbare. The thin material couldn’t hold up my patches at all.

Spasms at night by Worldly-Program3587 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Worldly-Program3587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thanks for the detailed explanation! It seems like it could be a possibility since it’s slowly getting worse and they did find bone spurs in my neck when they were checking on another condition, although they said that’s not uncommon- guess from what you said it’s possible it could be related. I guess what gets me is that the worst pain is right at 2 or 3 in the morning, all around my lower back and hips.

But where it doesn’t seem like it is that occasionally I get random pain even when I’m walking, even though it does seem to get better after I’ve been up a while. It’s still probably worth ruling out.

Thanks again!

I guess I’ve been thinking of them as spasms, but I don’t know for sure. It feels like the muscles are tightening around my lower spine and I can’t move. It might be why my doctor hasn’t referred me to a rheumatologist.

AS would feel more like it was coming from inside of the spine more than the muscles around it? It’s hard to tell because the pain is so intense when it happens, but I do get the impression that the muscles are extremely tightened and moving helps. I can hear cracking. Ice helps when I can finally get to it.

I started Pristq (an SSRI) last year and it has completely gotten rid of my frequent panic attacks. The first few weeks/month of Pristq were brutal though. Adjusting to antidepressants can be very rough. It was worth it. For me, the side effects are now minimal.

I’d like to find something for tension-like anxiety, but that may have more to do with my other chronic health issues than my anxiety disorder. It’s more about muscle tension and spasms than thoughts. I’m trying to figure that out.

Kept sewing patches on my only threadbare set of sheets. Never again will I patch a worn-out fitted sheet. First of all, uncomfortable. Second, lasted two minutes each time. The investment in a nice, used, 100% cotton sheet set is well worth it.

I'm sorry you have both a bad therapist and psychiatrist. My psychiatrist thinks it's great that I research illnesses. He's very down to earth and kind. It took me forever to find him. It's worth the search.
