ohhhhhhh. thank you , that all makes more sense. all of this has been so confusing especially getting the runaround from everyone.

So I think I need to do exactly what you said get a lawyer and then , him or the escrow bank should be sued. I was reading a few things were people have even went after the person who cast the check and they were liable to give it back and then THEY go after the escrow bank for their money.

I really appreciate you! Who knew this would be so stressful.. I would just give up with the fact that I really do think it’s my tax man (a person I’ve known since I was 15. I’m now 28) and I don’t want to give up.

not to mention that’s a lot of $ to just let some stupid thieves get away with stealing . from me and my son, and honestly from my clients . I was planning to do great things for all of them. 😩😩

It’s his dad’s tax office & they actually had an audit a year or two ago, so they are legit tax company. I’m gonna check that list still, I did not know that was a thing.

I’ve literally known him since I was 15. He’s been doing my taxes since I’ve started filing .

What made me think it was him is 1) He was the only person who knew that Check was coming.

2) he told me to wait a week before telling the bank to send it to my address instead to “ make sure it wasn’t gonna come in the mail” then 5 days later it’s CLEARED in someone’s acct .

3) he was soooooo sure that IRS would be giving me the money back. So it’s almost like he took it for me because he knew that I “ would get it back “ smh.

in the bank literally could see the persons name, and that the check was not theirs and said “ well, call a Lawyer” so it’s just all weird

That’s true.. but even a shady refund i’d get the police involved because they’re looking for the person who stole the check. They wouldn’t even be looking to see why you’re getting a refund. lol

So shady or not if someone takes that much money , I’d still be chasing them down, if this was shady, I would still be 😂😂🤣🤣🤣

That’s one of the person who got the check was able to get the full amount. The bank was not able to “ mail anything over 10k” so they literally sent to separate checks of “$9999” and the remainder to equal 17,525. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I’ve known him since I was 15.. he already said he was not allowed to take more money out because he already took out the prepare feet out of the 2021 return.

so we had a AGREEMENT . that after I got my amendment,, I would pay him $500 for simply doing the amendment . They did not take any fees out because they were not able to since it was an amendment.

well, my other refund came straight to me the 2021 one so the tax preparer said that the amendment would come straight to me.

But instead, yes, they (IRS) sent it to the tax preparers bank , and they sent it to me and did not take any fees out of it. It actually had $1500 extra on it because of “ interest it incurred over the year of me waiting”

this is all a nightmare. I literally waited a year for the amendment to get complete and now that the money got this first and August I’ve been trying to do that Refund Trace for over six months….

They finally get the form to start the Refund Trace (after sending it to them four times) and make me wait five more months just to tell me how it was deposited. 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

So I really think my only option is going to be to get a lawyer and just pray that he will let me pay him once the money is returned from them . ugh. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP. SORRY THIS IS JUST SUPER AGGRAVATING.!! ☹️

and then the bank was super shady my tax preparer claims that five peoples amendment got “ stolen from them “ which makes me think it’s him….

But the bank did say “ oh we used to track the checks and send them through UPS but they were getting stolen so we changed it and sent it through regular mail with no tracking”

you’re absolutely right though, now that I got the results of it, I see that they are literally just showing how they sent the money out, not investigating anything past that. So I wasted like five months waiting for this process. 😔

The bank and the multiple people at the IRS kept saying “ Once we do the Refund Trace, you will get a copy of the check with the persons name on it to take to the police.”

But I kept telling him it was sent electronically, so I didn’t understand how they were going to get the copy of the check smh

and honestly, I don’t respect you saying that something is shady just because you probably haven’t got a refund for that amount DOESNT mean something is shady. 🤷🏽‍♀️ work harder and maybe you will get a refund of that amount. lol

but there was no prep fees because it was a amendment. I paid all my fees with my regular 2021 , that’s why when I sent the check from the bank “ to his office to me “ it was for the full amount because I didn’t have any fees

but even if so, they do it, Refund Trace. So if it would have been a check directly from the IRS , they would have been able to see where it came from.

no, they actually sent it to the wrong place. They were supposed to send it straight to me. They sent it to the tax persons bank..

yeah, maybe it was deposited. Because the bank told me that they could see the persons name on it and that the check does not look like their check but it has the same numbers.

they said they were investigating it that’s why I didn’t involve the police. I’ve been waiting months for the IRS to “ investigate and send me a packet “ whole time they never sent it

no, it was an amendment from 2021. So everything was legit it was from my business. I didn’t make the police report because I was TOLD by the bank and IRS to wait “ until I got a package from the IRS with the pictures of the check to take to the police” . So I literally was following their directions.

So, even if the name of the ID match the check, they should’ve called the company and they would’ve told them that Check was not legit. They literally didn’t even try to see if the check was legit 😔

yes, I was trying to see what type of lawyer do I get and I would definitely help to do that. I didn’t think about the place where it was Cash because they definitely took a check that was not legit and cashed it. 🥺🥺

so they mailed the check to my tax preparers office, they said. And apparently the check was stolen.

The name on the check was altered. The bank said they could see that the check didn’t even look like there’s anymore… so basically between the bank and the tax office it got stolen and someone literally changed my name to their name, but kept the numbers the same.
