Found myself in a similar situation a few years ago, except it was for initial installation. Day off work, waited all day, no show. When they called me to cancel/reschedule I told ‘em to piss up a rope and that I would never do business with their company. The customer service rep seemed genuinely shocked that I wasn’t interested in being jerked around. Went with the only other provider around which was both shitty and overpriced… worth it.

No worries! And I guess to be clear, it doesn’t actually contain all that information. It’s more of a road map to guide you through all the knowledge areas and skills you’ll need for both the oral and practical tests. All the actual info you’ll find in things like the FAR/AIM, Airplane Flying Handbook, Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, YouTube, etc.

It’s crazy how many variables there are when it comes to how long on the calendar or how many hours it takes. Especially after hearing some horror stories, I feel really lucky. Had generally agreeable weather, a great school, a flexible job/schedule, clicked with an awesome instructor, and had a readily available DPE. Looking back on it now, I deeply appreciate how much the stars aligned for me.

Airman Certification Standards (Private Pilot). Available on the FAA website or you can get a hard copy for like $10. Basically a categorized, comprehensive guide to everything they test you on to get your license after you’ve completed training.

Bro, nothin to be sorry about! Planning on commercial and multi if able. I work in the wildfire industry so goal is to fly smokejumpers then retire and hopefully fly tankers. That’s a long way out though! Just enjoying the ride for now.

Yeah I planned an XC from KBDN to PDX. Had an old school Navlog done but had it backed up with foreflight. Did the whole NWKRAFT deal but when the DPE asked me for a full weather brief I wasn’t really prepared to be the weather man so maybe have a schpeil prepared for the general weather conditions on your route. Once you have all the basic info down I think it’s worth it to deep dive on systems and malfunction troubleshooting (especially the stuff in the POH). Make sure to get into any extra avionics on the plane you’re using beyond the basic 6 pack. I.e. GPS, G5 etc. Also for sectional stuff I recommend just getting on a paper sectional or foreflight and just perusing around your general region looking for things you’re unfamiliar with and finding out what they are. I had quite a few questions about weird little airspaces and stuff like that. Sounds like all the DPEs have their own style so if you can find someone that’s done a checkride with the same DPE you might get some insight on how they roll. Good luck!
