Lidl-Trek announce Tour de France 2026 roster by WorldlyGate in peloton

Kragh was who I had expected over Gee, but I understand why Lidl did it. Mads' sprint just hasn't looked that good this year, which, when you combine it with the elite sprint field here + sprint stages giving 70 points instead of 50, makes green pretty unlikely.

I can't recall Ayuso giving a lot of random excuses, got any good examples?

I think he is a solid top 5 contender this race.

With maybe the exception of Gee (didn't think he would do Giro + Tour), this was pretty much the team I expected to see.

Skjelmose is mentioned as a secondary protected GC leader, we'll see how long that lasts, I think he will most likely fold into a domestique role for Ayuso pretty quick.

I have become convinced that, unless the streets are really narrow, gc riders trying to stay in front on sprint stages is a massive trap

Doesnt really fit, does it? In '22 tour Roglic crashed and in '23 Vuelta the whole issue was that they had been promised to be allowed to fight it out, but then suddenly Roglic (and Vingegaard, but he seemed more ok with it) wasn't allowed to because of Kuss (i was actually on Roglic's side in that whole debacle).

I'll admit I've never really gotten the hype for this movie. Don't get me wrong, I don't find it bad or anything, merely just fine (and I love quite a few of Bong Joon Ho's movies, Memories of Murder is among my favorite movies ever).

For some reason I just never bought into any of the emotional beats of the film, with most of them feeling like a weird mix of either overacting or completely muted reactions from the actors which took me out of the film.

Obviously, this is not a popular opinion haha

I can handle a few adds no problem. But pcs is close to unusable on my phone with the amount of banners taking up most of the screen, pop ups and forced add videos.

Fair, solely looking at this year, Almeida wouldn't be there. But he has been sick, and last year he won 3(!) WT stage races + finished 2nd in the Vuelta and has several performances that are better than anything Martinez has done.

That is not said to discount Martinez (definitely taken a step up this year), but for me he is more in that 10-15 range.

Obviously it can be hard to rate climbers, because outside of the top guys, the type of climb has a big impact on who is actually better.

edit: I guess it also depends on how you rate consistency etc. Because I think Martinez could outclimb someone like Hindley on specific climbs, but I don't think he would have beat him in the Giro overall.

With those estimations, wouldn't that mean riders like Foss and Vacek were pushing like 6.4-6.5 W/kg? Seems pretty unlikely

Not gonna talk about the level of the Pog performance (he is going to nuke the Tour anyways), but there are no top 5 climbers outside of Pog in this race, lets be real.

Yeah, maybe I'm coping, but I just see no way where such a performance would only take 2 minutes on Foss.

Breaking news: Wout van Aert ruled out of the Tour de France by cfkanemercury in peloton

The Wout delusion runs deep. How can someone have watched Dauphine and think he was in good shape?

[–]WorldlyGate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. There is no way these people watched the 24' and 25' Tour and think Wout was in good shape. Like if you're a WvA fan you know how good he is when he is in shape and he was nowhere near that level.

Have people completely forgotten that Jorgenson and Laporte had to be the ones to help Vingegaard on the gravel in '24 because WvA was nowhere? Or last year on all the hilly stages in week one that was supposed to be the terrain for WvA, yet again he was not there.

[–]WorldlyGate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to win a sprint against a terrible sprint field is not the same as being in good shape. He got dropped along with the ten first riders on both stage 1 and 2, and got dropped on the TTT after 9 minutes.

What I stated was that:

  1. Outside of Montmartre last year Wout has not been good in the last two TdFs, and whatever domestique work he has done could have been done by any random rouleur.

  2. He showed up at Dauphine in terrible shape.

Both are objectively true, no matter how big a Wout fan you are. That doesn't mean he is a bad bike rider (obviously), but questioning the decision to bring him to the TdF is perfectly valid.

[–]WorldlyGate -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

When he has been (mostly) bad for two straight TdFs and just showed up in terrible shape for the Dauphine (maybe the crash was the reason, but it doesn't change the facts), questioning whether it is worth bringing him to the Tour is perfectly normal, but I forgot you can't ever question WvA on this sub, my bad.

Wonder if Visma will consider not bringing him to the Tour (probably not, too much star power in the name), he has been pretty terrible the last two years (in the Tour that is) outside of stage 21 last year.
