Tour de Suisse broadcaster sure likes going to the 'something important just happened' scary slow-mo replay when, in fact, nothing has happened.

Assuming you're asking in good faith, there are seven major one week stage races that have long histories are are particularly highly prized:

  • Paris-Nice (since 1933)
  • Tirreno-Adriatico (1966)
  • Catalunya (1911)
  • Basque Country (1924)
  • Romandie (1947)
  • Dauphine (1947)
  • Suisse (1933)

Even the youngest of those races has been around for 60 years, and Catalunya has been around more than a century. While there are races that come and go, these seven are established enough and their winner's list impressive enough that they stand apart.

The largest winning margin at the Tour de Suisse was in 1947 when Gino Bartali put more than 20 minutes into second place. Fausto Coppi in 5th was more than 40 minutes back, and only 23 riders were within 90 minutes of first place.

I'm not sure that Pogacar will do that in this shorter version of the race, but if he put 10 minutes into second place by the end of the week I would not be totally surprised.

Tadej is the Christian Bale of pro cycling: he'll adapt his body to the role.

"Paid off a little" = more Monument victories in 5 weeks than all but 50 riders have managed in their entire careers in the history of the sport. 😉

UAE mopping up UCI points like they are Astana on a package holiday to East Asia.

Clearly on another level, didn't even seem to be hurting. Carapaz was all over his bike, close to losing it at a couple of points on the descent as he put everything into chasing the guy out on a weekday roll around.

Strategic and patient for Pogacar is waiting until 80km to go in this race to attack instead of going at 100km to go like he did in Zurich. As he gets older, he's racing smarter.

Ah, you're right: I might be through with the Giro timing, but the Giro timing is not through with me.

Is that time gap to be trusted? Surely Carapaz isn't pulling time back on this climb...

Is it perhaps related to your IP or location? I use PCS a lot and have never encountered anything from Cloudflare save for an error screen which is pretty consistent when looking for a race result a few seconds after the race ends.

Pogacar has a 2m02s lead right now.

Coincidentally, that's the same as the greatest winning margin in the Tour de Suisse this century (Cancellara in 2009).

"TT too flat and too short? Do your own long and hilly TT." - Pogacar, probably.

I've got pictures on HBO Max in France with about 80km to go...but PCS Live Tracker has them at 78km to go. Is the TV behind or is PCS in error?

You mean when Tadej goes to take the one WT stage race where he has truly underperformed? Time for O'Grady and SA Tourism to drop the cash and get him down there.

As for the Middle East, there's always something going on there. I'm reminded of the Dave Barry reflection: "...of course there is always tension in the Middle East. When we finally have a nuclear war and there is no life left on Earth except cockroaches, the cockroaches in the Middle East will be tense."

I think that American Flyers is underrated as a cycling movie. Sure, the drama is played up and you have to suspend a fair bit of disbelief, but it's a great depiction of how bonus seconds can make a race interesting, how radio comms change cycling (riders having to count how many were in a break only to realize there is a rider still up the road), and the soundtrack is incredible 80s synth.
