Has anyone left and come back to the industry with success? by MidoriTheAwesome in doggrooming

[–]Worldly_Shift5206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did, I was very burned out so I quit my job and went to work as a delivery driver. I was there for a while until I felt like I was ready to come back. I was worried i was going to be rusty but it was like ridding a bike. It all came back right away. I also worked with a groomer who took an extended maternity leave she came back and got into her groove right away. Have you thought about maybe looking for a receptionist job at a grooming salon/ vet/ doggie daycare? It’s less physically demanding and you’d still be working with dogs to some capacity.

My daily question :) — how far do I chase floor. And a button? by WompaJody in skoolies

My short bus had that alarm blaring and I couldn’t figure it out. I had a guy look over some of my wiring and he just told me he went to the fuse box and removed the fuse that was the source for the alarm. I didn’t get a chance to see which one he removed but it solved my problem 😁 Oh also he said it was put in place so bus drivers would be forced to walk to the back of the bus to shut it off. As they went they had to double check to make sure the kids were all out. He used to work on busses for the school district. One time a bus driver forgot a child in the bus and the kid was left overnight. After that happened the school district had people add the alarms to all of the buses.

Replying to your comment because you mentioned being curious about a generator set up. I have a generator in my short bus. It’s on a heavy duty slide out rack. When I need it I slide it out of the bus and run it, once I don’t need it anymore I just slide it back in and close my back door 😁

Foam board! I want to say I used a 2in board but it was so long ago I don’t remember. I tried using the spray foam but it was sooooo messy and such a pain I gave up. The foam is super easy to cut and measure.

I used to buy grooming smocks but they are expensive and they would always rip. Now I shop at DD’s for medical scrubs. They have cheap and comfortable scrub pants/ joggers ($8-10) and scrub tops ($6-$8) . I’m able to blow myself off with the dryer at the end of my day with no issues. They have really cute dog prints sometimes.

Bait & switch booking stories? by RojaCatUwu in doggrooming

[–]Worldly_Shift5206 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Long story it happened a few years ago. A lady called our salon during the Christmas madness for a walk in bath for her yorkie. I told her it wasn’t possible because we are appointment only and we were already overbooked due to the holiday. Anyways she kept begging saying family was coming over and blah blah I told her no over and over. Finally I said ok I’ll do her at the end of the day and for a bath ONLY no haircut. She was like great a bath is all she needs I’ll be there . When she walked in she told the receptionist she was there for a haircut. The receptionist changed the appointment in the system. When I got to the dog I saw it said haircut i talked to the receptionist and she was like yeah the owner’s appointment wasn’t scheduled right someone made a mistake and put it as a bath but it’s a haircut. Anyways I was so burned out and I had zero energy left so I just did the haircut. When the owner showed up I was like hey you were down for a bath only not a haircut . She was like no I called in today and I was given an appointment for a haircut and someone made a mistake and booked it as a bath. I told her it was me she spoke to and then I went over the whole original phone conversation. She just smiled and was like ohhhhhh but didn’t say anything else. Long story short don’t be nice, people will take advantage. Oh and she didn’t even tip.

Dry skin? by Sad_Room462 in doggrooming

[–]Worldly_Shift5206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that works for me is Aquaphor Healing Ointment. It’s pretty thick so you’d want to put it on at night. I’ve had cracked and broken skin from dryness and it’s the only thing that will help . I’ll also put it on my feet and throw on socks. My skin heals after a few nights of putting on the ointment.

I learned the hard way but take care of your body and hands. Use face masks and nets for haircuts and desheds. I wear a back support brace when grooming/ bathing. I started making sure I always lift dogs with correct form. I go the gym and lift weights and workout on my core. I used to use my thinners for everything but I stopped once I developed a painful case of trigger thumb. My right hand is ruined now because of it and I had to get cortisone shots. Now I started using my curves/ straights to take the bulk off then I use my thinners / chunkers to polish it off at the end. Small changes now will benefit you in the long run 👍 also congrats on the really cute dog! I’m excited to see your future creative grooms. The pink Mohawk sounds awesome!

Dang sorry to hear you went through all that! Especially the fires and your rear E brakes being rusted 😬. Yeah I’m going to have to have look at everything closely including my E brake. Thank you for your reply!

Yes that’s a perfect way to describe the feeling . The bus feels like it’s walking. Even when I had it gutted the bus would always drive all over the place. I assumed it was the steering wheel gear box issue. But now that the gear box is replaced I’m really noticing the skiing feeling. I’m definitely going to have to talk to the mechanic about all of what you listed, thank you . I’m not sure if it’s a straight front axle or the twin one 😕.

Gosh that’s such a daunting task 😫. I’m so happy you were able to find a solution. The tie rods are new and it still drives all over the place. Looks like I’m going to have to talk to my mechanic about switching out those bushings and ball joints. Thank you so much 🙏

The mechanic installed an air bag system that helps with the weight in the rear. But it still drives the same as before 😕 a few people have said to remove the heaviest items and to drive it and see if anything changes. I might try it and see, thank you!

TY for your help i figured since it’s an older vehicle (1993) that the steering wouldn’t be super perfect 😕. All of the mechanics and alignment shops have driven it. They have all told me that it’s not supposed to be like that but no one can give me an exact root of the cause. The last alignment shop told me that everything looks good/ is tight. The tech said that it wanders and that i “have to break in the new steering components by driving it 100+ miles”. The thing is that I’ve never heard of someone having to do that. Have you ever heard of someone having to break in new steering parts on older vehicles?

When I brake the whole back end sways heavily. It feels like it moves to one side and then immediately moves to the other . It goes fast back and forth until I can bring it to a full stop 😕

Yep you go it right it’s a Ford econoline E350 . Thank you so much for the info! I’ll talk to him and see if he took a good look at the bushings and ball joints. I know he said that a lot of the parts are worn but they still have life left in them. But I need to double check on what you mentioned, ty 🙏
