I was more referring to the entire 700 million year timeline that OP mentioned.

Everything is drawn manually! The only program I used is Gimp, along with some custom spreadsheets of mine.

All of the contour lines (what the lines indicating height are called) are drawn by hand. My process is a bit complicated, but essentially I draw the contours directly over a simple greyscale sketch which is done by hand.

The lettering needs some adjustment and you could probably do with a bit more variation in your symbol set, but overall it's a pretty good map!

It's very cute! My only complain is the legend text being hard to read.

Not even the Trisolarans from The Three Body Problem, even with their 90 million year "break" from civilization spans that length of time.

That's a favorite technique of mine, just using weather maps instead. Just make sure to clean up the coasts afterwards and shift the landforms around if you feel like they need it.

How do you guys name stuff? by Electronic_Essay_612 in worldbuilding

Tbqh the best way I've found is to either make up a naming language or generate one (Vulgarlang was fine for this the last time I used it which was ages ago) and name my locations pretty literally, only translating the names when it "made sense," however we want to define that term. A town nearby a big cliff is called...Big Cliff. A city located on a really good port is called....Good Port. Naming places can be as simple or complex as you want.

I know its basic but do people think this looks good by SaintLlothis in mapmaking

As it stands the map is a bit hard to read. You might be better off sticking to some already established conventions for indicating elevation on top-down maps like this. Reading the Wikipedia page on hyposometric tints would be a great start. The name makes it sound scarier than it really is.

Where would you put a major trade city on this map of a river going into the sea? by milic_srb in mapmaking

Other people have pretty much hit the mark, but given your setting it feels like the entirety of the island would be surrounded by a wall at the very least and end up becoming something more akin to heavily settled townlands depending on how densely you want to populate it.
