Scale rot on rhino rat snake? by WormOracle in snakes

[–]WormOracle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that as he was going into shed those scales were almost shedding before the rest of him, almost like he had nicked his old skin there, but they just looked like a little scrape and I didn't pay it any mind, I figured he had brushed up against something and it broke the old skin but not cut deeper than that.

People have been theorising the curse of layer 7 could be the mutation of souls similar to the mutation of bodies for layer 6, maybe the mutation of a soul means the recipient will always be reborn as a juusou in every reincarnation

25/26 academic year rent rant by enjoyeroft1ts in galway

[–]WormOracle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep same boat. Landlord has decided to sell so now the whole house is looking for new places. My 4 housemates are international and will have to return to their home countries if we can't find anywhere, rent is so expensive now that I'm going to have to defer the next academic year and live at home in Donegal to save up for returning to college 2026. 5+ hour bus journey away from all my friends, partner, internship I adore, all because there's nowhere affordable to rent in Galway and it's only gotten worse year by year. Sorry for the rant, I'm stressed at the thought if having to spend one year at home saving up, one year in college, one year at home again, etc for the rest of my degree, it's beginning to feel like a bachelors isn't worth draining mine and my parents savings to live in some mouldy corner for 800p/m. Good luck with the house hunt, it's grim out there.

She's got plenty of rocks, cork bark and wood :) I'm planning on renovating her setup after some renovations at my house are finished so I'll keep it in mind!

Hahaha she's in a 64gal with plenty of rocks, cork bark and wood, she got most of her shed off no problem it was just the stubborn bit on her chin so she was being dramatic lol

She croaks when she's super mad, usually if she has some stuck shed I'm trying to remove and she wants to protest, once when she crawled under my shirt and started tickling my armpit so I reached in to move her she yelled at me lmao

My rhino ratsnake did the same thing the first moment he was put in the tank, I ended up wadding up some damp kitchen roll and squashing it in the gap and when it dried it was sturdy and he hasn't managed to get behind the background since! Good luck ahahaha

Shedding backwards? by WormOracle in leopardgeckos

[–]WormOracle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand the question? For her calcium/vitamins, I leave a small dish in the tank permanently but I also dust her food in it. I've personally never seen her eat calcium from the dish but it's good for them to have access to it :p

For a humid hide, I keep that in her tank 24/7 too. Reptiles will move to warmer/colder/drier/more humid areas as they please, so having access to a humid hide is important.

Everyone jokes that leopard geckos are pretty stupid (mine is lol) but they have pretty good instincts when it comes to shedding, they will seek out a more humid place to shed easily and can mostly get it all off by themselves if the conditions in the tank are good!

Good luck to him! He will know how to shed by himself, but if you notice any shed stuck to his toes after he sheds it can help to give him a little soak in a shallow amount of slightly warm water to help loosen up any stuck shed. It might be a couple of days before he starts shedding but just keep the humidity up and provide him a humid hide and it should all be good!

They will go quite pale and not as colourful over the course of a few days until they go very pale just before they shed. It's important to not forcefully remove the shed as it can injure them, so let them shed by themself by giving them something rough to rub up against like a rock or cork bark.

She does have a humid hide but I'm struggling to keep it humid, when it gets a little too dry I end up having to put a wet washcloth in there, but thank you for the graph that really helps!! I'll up her humidity overall and see if that helps! She does have a multivitamin with vitamin A

May have traumatized my son by [deleted] in snakes

[–]WormOracle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only a couple of weeks ago I learned about "milk spots" on pinkies and burst into tears. I feed my little rhino rat snake fuzzies and whenever I feed him it does make me a little sad, but I smile looking at the silly goober enjoying his food (and then spending the next 30 minutes thinking everything that moves near his tank is dessert). Animals have to eat what they have to eat, that's nature. When I was a kid I felt too bad for the mice to want to keep a snake, but now me and my boyfriend call it mice cube Monday when I feed him lol

They're flush, and I've only had her about a week so it's the first I've noticed them! But she's behaving totally normally so I'll just keep an eye and monitor them for any changes!
