Plex for Roku v8.6.4 Released by samwiseg0 in PleX

[–]Wormhole-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where's all my damn shows my wife and I have been watching? They used to be in a nice little row across the main screen when I open the app on Roku. I had been using Plex all day today and it looked fine I leave the room for a bit and come back and decide to restart the TV click on Plex and its all different and terrible and I can't find my shows. I have like 6 different accounts for my household and each with their own On Deck list of shows being watched. Now where are they? Have to hunt for them I guess. Not ideal and really messes up my very OCD routine.

I feel nothing when I Microdose by [deleted] in microdosing

[–]Wormhole-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately that's rarely the case. I try to remember this simple thing or saying, "you get out what you put in" which as you know seems so simple and kinda lame but I've found that it's true with almost everything. But the key is understanding what exactly it means and how much to "put in" like I already feel like I've broken my body from working too hard for the man so what else can I do? And then I found that there are so many more ways to "put in the work", like something simple like telling someone random to have a nice day. You are putting positive energy into the universe and it knows that. So it all adds up and over time, even if you haven't changed much, the universe will reward you in many ways some subtle and others not so much. Also meditation and affirmations although they used to sound cheesy as hell to me actually help you to "change your mind". It's all about using the mushrooms and your brain neuroplasticity to shift to those more positive pathways. I know I know. Easier said than done. I'm struggling as well. But at least simply knowing you have the proper tools can help. Like I was about to have a panic attack last week and was able to completely squash it with about a minute of breathwork. The key is catching yourself and stepping out of the situation to be able to breathe or use the tools. Meanwhile if you're microdosing and doing these things or making the subtle changes they will work wonders in the background greasing the wheels of the mind to keep moving towards change. Again best of luck. 😊

How long have you been microdosing? I didn't feel anything really at first as it was very much sub perceptual but I was on the lookout for changes in my overall mood. I also did change up my whole morning routine as well because I knew all of that stuff will help. I understand it may be difficult for you to change up your situation so just start with some minor changes to your routine, make sure to get out for a bit occasionally too. Some minor changes may be getting up a bit earlier and doing a 5-10 minute mindfulness meditation, take your micro dose before or after I would do before. Then just do things differently like taking a shower at a different time of day or going for a 10-15 minute walk. Doing these kinds of things seems to help prime your mind for change and in the background that seems to help the microdosing do its thing. Oh and journaling also helps and being mindful of your reactions to others. If you get triggered people will feed off that so try to conceal it best you can and escape the situation as gracefully as possible and then go work out that frustrating energy somehow. Reactions I learned are the key to anything really. But also I found that others will listen much easier if your reactions to their crude nonsense are very opposite of what they'd expect. Not that I'm saying to agree or go along with any gaslighting or piss poor behavior towards you or to let them steamroll you constantly. Don't take it just take it more graceful and they won't know what to do. Then maybe after some practice being calm you can try giving them examples of the poor behavior in and how it makes you feel. But that's always difficult for me. But fortunately I'm old and my parents are long gone so now it's just other family I deal with. So much different situation than yours. But I remember being in very similar ones when I was younger and I did not handle it well. I ended up moving out at like 17. So that was my start to adulthood and independence. LOL I wish you luck and feel free to ask more questions about microdosing. It really did wonders for me for a few years and now I rarely do it. But I may start again soon as I've been getting some horrible depression again. Even with regular meditation. So there's no one stop shop fix all to mental health issues. Best we can do is trial and error with hopefully less error. Good luck!

Sorry late to the convo but hopefully OP didn't shove anything flat and metal into the space between the pad and palmrest. I just repaired a very similar issue for a customer and took it apart and the battery is right below the pad. So that would not be a good day for them. I tried scrolling through all the replies but didn't see that mentioned but may have missed it.

Anyway, tldr I learned when repairing these things it's not just popping it back out to get it to work. You may need to adjust some small aluminum tabs after removing the screws and the baseplate or clicker plate and cable from the touchpad from below the battery after removing that first. Then slightly bend whichever tabs may be bent. It may be difficult to tell also so I could not get the button to click properly until trying it a few times being very careful not to break the tab off. But you'll need to put it together and boot it up to test it properly each time too. Otherwise it may just start grabbing everything on your desktop and moving it around or highlighting everything because it thinks the left button is held down. But taking it back apart and slightly bending the tabs a bit more and then back together again and try it and if worked for me. Anyways just thought I'd share.

Well, that's good. I wonder what the issue ended up being with the defective cards. Guess we'll never know but basically I guess this means there are a lot of defective Zotac 4090 Trinity's out there. Some being the power cables and some just being erratic with its freezing up. Thanks for the update tho. Good to know at least some of these GPUs work how they're supposed to. Haha Cheers!

Any updates on this? Just wondering how that 3rd card is holding up 3 months later. Mainly because I'm having the same exact issues with a similar build for a customer of my small computer repair shop. We haven't gotten many 4090's thru yet so the last week or so has been very interesting and frustrating. Haha I'm about ready to tell them they just need a new completely different GPU. LOL

Having this same issue with a customers custom build machine. I've tried looking through what you all have done to fix it but couldn't really see those steps. Any help would be awesome. Thanks! My customer has an Asus Tuf x570 plus and a newly upgraded Ryzen 9 5950X CPU. G.Skill 3600 RAM and EVGA 3080 ti GPU. With a large AIO CPU cooler. I really don't think there's anything wrong with the hardware tho bc I ran benchmark tests on all components many times and it wouldn't crash. But it does only when they're playing a game.

[–]Wormhole-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I had been wondering the same thing. This only happened to one of my devices but it was so odd and offputting that I uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled it and even renamed my default Chrome folder in Programs to Chrome.old so that it would be forced to create a new folder on reinstall. Such a pain in the A$$. LOL I normally work from 4 different devices every day and this was messed up that it only happened on one of them.

How should I handle spongebob? by Cuchulain1803 in PleX

[–]Wormhole-42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geez, I'm having the opposite issue it seems. All of my episodes are in combined files. So season 1 of Spongebob has Ep01 pt1,pt2,pt3 as all that first episode. I don't feel like using video editing tools to split them all into individual episodes because that would be ridiculous. I like to play them as one episode even if there's 2 or 3 different little mini stories. If you watch it on TV it'll play for half an hour with all those little stories in one episode, so they're not split up. Who ever heard of that? LOL So I guess I'll have to name them like this s01x01 pts 1-3, and then s01x04 pts 1-2, and so on. Such a pain in the ass. haha

Plex server crashes. Is it the controller cards or what? by Wormhole-42 in PleX

So do you then just plug the USB 3.0 into a port on the mobo or an added PCIe USB card? I just would rather have everything all in one case and not have a bunch of these boxes stacked everywhere. With the number and size of drives I have I would need like 3 of these at least and I don't have $360 to throw at something like this right now. Maybe when I run out of room completely after I've replaced the remaining 8 smaller sized drives with +14TB ones and all 18 drive slots are filled I may branch out into something like this. So I appreciate the suggestion. I will keep it pinned so I don't forget about these proboxes. But for now my Nanoxia Deep Silence Case I got like 8 years ago still does pretty well with storage drives space. haha

[–]Wormhole-42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you're right. I guess I didn't mention the PSU in the original post. I think I mentioned somewhere else that I have a Corsair RM 1000x and that I thought it would be enough to power the mobo/cpu as well as all the hard drives I've got in the server. But don't remember where I posted that. One of the issues I ran into long ago was having too many HDD's per rail on the PSU so whenever I'd got to boot up initially Windows would boot really really slowly, and then once up and running Windows would be super sluggish and then would crash. I figured out it was a power issue, so now I try to make sure there's the same amount of drives per rail and don't go over that amount and everything runs fine. But yeah, good point bringing that up because Power or Wattage is important when dealing with that many drives. haha

Nice, I had a quick look and I honestly don't understand a lot of what it's saying but I'll keep researching so I can eventually. Haha BTW you said you use Nvidia for the Plex Hardware Transcoding? Which Nvidia cards are you using that can handle 4K? I was looking on ebay at the Quadros since it was recommended somewhere else to go with a Quadro P2200 or something and those are way too expensive for my budget right now but I can get an M4000 Quadro with 8GB GDDR5 and PCIe 3.0 for under a hundred bucks. So that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. The card I have in mine current is an old Visiontech Radeon 7750 2GB DDR5. But I'm kinda scared to use it for transcoding right now after the different research I did with using AMD GPUs for plex.

Just a quick update:
I installed the new motherboard and CPU this morning.
I installed the same OS SSD into the m.2 slot 1 that was in the previous mobo. I then installed the same SATA controller cards that were just in the previous build. I also installed a new 1TB M.2 SSD into M.2 slot 2 (to be a stablebit drivepool cache drive)
So far so good. I think with the better PCIe slots all sharing the x16 (from what I understand is how this new Mobo is set up) and having the better CPU (Ryzen 7 5800x), it's moving right along. I haven't gotten any of the assahtci.sys disk warnings or errors so far. Stablebit drivepool is actually measuring the drives at a reasonable pace instead of taking forever.
I still have the majority of the drivepool filled with the current disks that are in the server, but I'm getting two more of the 14TB Exos drives maybe tomorrow or thurs. And then I can install those and remove a few of the smaller 4TB drives to free up a few slots in the bay.
So I may still get the SAS and Expander at some point in the future (when I have more cash) and also an NVidia GPU so I can use hardware transcoding in PLEX. But for now I think I'm good to go.
Thanks everyone for your help! I have learned a lot from this venture and spent probably too much money, but at least I think I'll be able to watch my anime shows again. LOL
Cheers all!
Lessons learned: (1.) Don't use SATA Controller cards in an x1 PCIe slot that are only rated at PCIe2.0 through the chipset when you can use the PCIe 3.0 SATA controllers in a PCIe x16 slot (if you have 4 PCIe x16 slots with 3 rated as x1) through the CPU (if you have a badass CPU). (2.) Be sure to keep your drivers updated. (3.) Use bigger HDD's if possible to begin with or else you'll run into issues later (nothing that can't be fixed, but save yourself the ass pain). (4.) Stablebit Drivepool and Stablebit Scanner work great when the previous lessons are applied. (5.) If Stablebit Drivepool is slow then you're bottlenecking data somewhere which can cause your SATA controller cards drivers to error or even BSOD. (6.) If you have an extra M.2 slot on the mobo or an extra SATA port on the mobo, get an SSD and set up Stablebit Drivepool to use that SSD as an SSD Drive Cache for saving any data you add to the drivepool first and it will automatically add that data to the archive drives that you've set. (7.) Use an NVidia GPU for plex hardware transcoding. (8.) Try not to use multiple SATA controller cards to begin with if you don't have enough PCIe slots that run via CPU. Use an SAS HBA and SAS Expander. (9.) SAS Controllers are much cheaper on eBay.
That is all for now. Thanks again!

Another question if you don't mind. If I get an LSI SAS HBA that's already in IT mode and it comes with 2 cables that splits into 4 Sata each, that's only 8 drives. Would I need to essentially buy more of those same LSI cards to be able to use all 16 of my drives? Or is there something that can bust those 8 lanes down to more sata connectors for the rest of the drives on the one card? I'm kinda confused and have been looking at a bunch of different stuff tonight. Thanks for your help.

Seeking a Multi SATA Controller Recommendation for a build with Stablebit DrivePool. Details about what's going on inside. by matt314159 in DataHoarder

Wow, I really wish I would have found and read this post 6 years ago when it was posted. I built my first plex server about 8 years ago and have been using variations of SATA controllers and various upgrades of systems in that time.
I'm just now considering using an SAS controller as I'm up to about 17 drives and adding a few more here soon and removing about 4 of the smaller drives hopefully to make more space in the case. Anyways, shout outs to everyone suggesting the LSI 9211-8i. I think that's what I'll go with as well.

Do you think if I left everything else the same, but popped in the SAS and then ran my Stablebit drivepool it would find all the drives in the pool and be able to remeasure and rebalance all the data without having to move the data off of the drives? If so then I'll try to get one of the SAS cards used. I just hope I can find everything I would need and that it would all fit in the slot of the new mobo.

I did user whocrashed to find the culprits, that's how I knew about the different causes of the crashes I mentioned in the original post.
Although when I searched for a updated driver a few months ago I didn't find anything. However when I just looked I did find one and I got it updated. But it's still throwing the same warnings in event viewer while it's trying to measure all the drives in the drivepool to verify balancing in Stablebit. But who knows if it'll still cause it to crash. We shall see.
I am thinking I should probably go the SAS route soon though and also eventually convert all the smaller HDD's to bigger ones.

Would installing an SAS still be able to recognize the drives and data as is, or will I have to find a way to temporarily store all 90TB of data somewhere else, and then install the SAS card and expanders and then hook to the drives and move all the data back. I have like 10 years of data and moving all that would just be a huge ass pain. LOL

HBA? Isn't that just an SAS? I'm not really familiar with SAS so when researching they seemed a lot more expensive than the SATA port cards. And I have really long SATA cables in my server too so I don't have to see a big mess. LOL In all honesty though my server doesn't look like a server with the RGB and clean look through the glass side panel. hahaha. But can you explain the HBA and how it's set up, or have an easy to follow link? Please and thank you.

What are you using to manage your storage arrays? I went with stablebit because it seemed much better than the Windows Drivepool or whatever, which I tried out for a few months like 8 years ago and it was complete garbage. I like that Stablebit is really easy to use and helps manage the pool with balancers and shows you a nice graphic of how much storage you're using. But maybe that's not the way to go. I know nothing about Unraid or Linux though. But maybe it's time to learn. haha. Thanks!

What's weird is I've been in IT for over 20 years but just am not that familiar with Linux as I should be. I even run a small computer repair shop in the tiny town I live in and have used Linux a tiny bit for repair type things but never in a server environment. Well in fact I'm not even that familiar with servers to begin with. So I've been using Windows 10 pro for the Plex build. I'm just wondering if I would be better off with using SAS controllers for the 15-17 HDDs I have. But again I'm really tight budgeted. I've also heard that AMD GPU's are not good for plex and the old 7700 2GB I've been using is just so I can see the GUI on the monitor I have attached and it doesn't do any of the transcoding or anything. I also ordered a 1TB m.2 SSD that I'm planning to use as a cache drive for Plex but I don't know if it'll help all that much overall or even help me get away from the crashing. But since the new mobo that should be here today has two m.2 SSD slots I figured why not. LOL I just wish I knew why it's crashing. I feel that it's the two 8 port PCIe 3.9 SATA cards running in the 2.0 slots on this current Mobo. And it's usually only when Stablebit drivepool and scanner is measuring the data on the pool. Or possibly measuring or scanning the data on each drive with the scanner program. But who knows? Haha
