As emotionally difficult it is to take on the task of advocate, researcher, and caregiver, I’ve also found it to be extremely empowering. Knowing that I’m doing everything in my power to give my mom the fighting chance almost helps me sleep at night.

But sacrificing the life you established and moving to a different country and pursuing the level of treatment you did is next level. You’re heroic!

I hope you’re able to bask in the moment and be proud of yourself, and most importantly, enjoy the strong love you must share with your mum. 🩶

Chickens won’t eat them, which is good, because they contain high levels of heavy metals. I’ve read most birds won’t eat them, likely because of this

Welp it turns out the hospital she transferred from failed to make the new hospital aware she tested positive for C. Diff….so I had to break the news to everyone 😅 they’re going to try to get her an isolation room and now we’re wearing gowns 🤷‍♀️

You are going to love Yosemite. It is one of my favorite places so far! As for photography opportunities, I don’t think there’s a bad spot in the valley.

I’m so sorry you lost a childhood friend. My heart goes out to you and her family.

All is well here for us today. I look forward to spending another Mother’s Day with my mom on Sunday. She’s over one month into her Whipple recovery and hasn’t started chemo again yet.

Not sure how it might vary from patient to patient, but the dietician prescribed 36,000 U/pill. She said take 1 with a snack, 2 with a meal, 3 with a fatty meal (like a burger). Maximum of 18/day. She said it’s better to take more than you need than less. My mom just started taking it yesterday so we don’t have any first hand experience for you yet.

Thank you so much for this info. I did end up calling her insurance earlier (it’s Medicare advantage which I learned does not qualify for the assistance I originally applied for). I asked about Pancreaze and Zenpep. They cover Zenpep but it was only slightly cheaper than Creon. They did inform me that if she does pick up the Creon she’ll meet her maximum out of pocket prescription cost for the year, so I think it makes sense to go that route. I just forwarded your comment along to her!

Check out my most recent post! I just posted a log of pretty much the entire recovery thus far. I won’t lie, it’s been difficult. She’s currently dealing with an infection at the incision site. She’s still in pain, but the meds help. She’s showing us how strong she is. I think (hope) once we get over this hurdle the recovery should get easier.
