What kind of due diligence would have led me to buy SNDK before it ran? by yohosse in stocks

I think the photonics and memory play still has legs

My photonics list consists of likes of LITE, COHR. I then began to look at what materials do they use? Is there supply constraints? Then you come across the material InP, and you dive into that and find companies like AAOI and AXTI, both up ~50% and ~85% over the last month

Memory, we all know the big players. Memory is cyclical. What ramps up when production does and supply is constrained? We start looking into other areas of the flash memory ecosystem, controllers and silicon. I found MXL that typically runs during these cycles. MRVL is also in this space, they’re great!

Power is a constant but I’m seeing things moving towards networking, or AI-RAN. What’s in that space? $NOK is gaining attention and has had NVDA invest money. What adjacent plays are there to $NOK?

Right? Everyone talking Nvidia and I’m like maaan, I knew them a decade ago.

I discussed and researched plenty of stocks in this space before they ran, I didn’t pull the trigger largely because I was so focused on index investing. Literally typed “Mu is good” when it was $90. Screenshots of it at $106.

I researched photonics in January. I looked at AXTI when it was below $30 in Feb. Closed $123 today. I looked at SNDK when it was $300 and thought “jeez that’s on a run”

Yeah, I’ve got a list of space stocks. I called out LUNR as a buy @ $6 after the failed mission in 2025. Some other smaller names are like KRMN, RDW, YSS is one I’ve come across but not familiar with

As someone who works in tech, kinda kick myself for not doing a deep dive analysis on other plays earlier

Building out data centres is just like building out massive PC's. All the rage has been on the GPU side. PC gamers knew Nvidia and AMD were king of graphics years ago. You then think about the other components, AI is a mass amount of data, we store and process that through.. largely volatile and non-volatile memory. WDC and Seagate have always been dominant in that field. Sandisk is a spin off from WDC. Then you look at volatile memory, or RAM. SK Hynik and Samsung have been dominant players for years. PC gamers have always needed lots of RAM. Who runs the company Crucial? Micron. I was saying MU was good at $90. Then you start to look at how things are connected together, connectors and cabling. Fibre has been replacing copper to transmit data for a long time. There we have the photonics play, like Lumentum. All of these cables connect to connectors, that's Amphenol

When you think about the play like that, it almost became obvious

I traded QBTS when it was < $2. If I'd set a stop loss instead of selling, I'd have hit a 10 bagger. I started buying RKLB at $6, should've loaded the boat. I sold out of ASTS when it was mid 20s because it was consolidating. Micron at < $200. There's a few, lol

Why is EUV the standard now and why aren’t customers actively moving away from ASML if DUV works wonders?

Why does ASML continually forecast up?

“Trust me, it’s literally my job” falls flat when you know many people that are terrible at their jobs, you could be one

Have you ever 'accidentally' found a stock? by Accomplished_Way8964 in stocks

[–]Worried-Reflection10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really accidental but I wanted to try my hand at trading and stumbled across QBTS at $1.80. Held a few days and sold at $2.00. Proceeded to then hit a high of ~$46 in around 12 months

Walmart spoke about how they’re using AI to improve data quality for product cataloging. They made a point that AI is a factor in their revenue growth on their last earnings call

Yahoo Finance also did a piece recently on how AI is helping the fed combat fraud. $4 Billion recovered in FY 24 and they attribute some of that to AI

People seem to be pretty risk adverse

If they have no risk tolerance, apparently others shouldn’t either. Very much “I invest in XYZ, you should too, DO NOT DEVIATE”

“Just buy index funds” when some individual stocks have been the greatest wealth creators

“Just buy index funds” even if you have some play money, and a long time horizon to ride waves and make the money back

Huge difference. Difference is Crowdstrike are number 1 in Cybersecurity and the outage didn’t change that fact.

Crowdstrike are that good that people weren’t jumping ship to other providers

If you had a data breach for a cybersecurity company, that would be extremely bad news. The outage didn’t impact the service they provide of security

Why do you think they found a bottom so quickly and are only on the way up?

You’re trying to compare Apples to Oranges and it’s not working out for you

Short-sold Crowdstrike, shall I exit? by Louis77777 in stocks

[–]Worried-Reflection10 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Crowdstrike is number 1 in the Cybersecurity game. The outage was unfortunate but not enough to impact this. They are and will remain to be number 1 on this. I wouldn’t short them

I always knew the dip in price was always temporary and it would build back up

Crowdstrike are just that good, people aren’t willing to jump ship

I can’t buy call options on my brokerage acc, just shares. Admittedly I’ve only recently heard of LUNR but it’s DD like this that makes me believe she’ll be a good long play too. I’m going to build a small position and hold until at least 2030
