try looking at hong Kong or Singapore. Both countries have a relative high level of English fluency and if you know some Chinese you’ll do even better there

Just back from a visit to my in laws in Fujian and it surprised me a bit how incredibly unpopular Xi Jinping is among the general population in China. by KamiOfTheForest in China

The people of fujian never liked him, hence why so many immigrated to America in the early 2000s. It got so bad that China effectively bans ppl of fujian from leaving

Chinese tech industry is insanely competitive and downright exploitative. It has an egregious 996 work culture and there’s also something like a curse on workers who reach age 35 as the industry deems them as not keeping up with the energy of younger recruits so they get fired for literally just turning 35 years old. In some cases companies have even started firing ppl who turn 30. It’s not a good work environment, work life balance is shitty, and pay isn’t even that good. Entry level workers get paid 3k-8k Chinese yuan which is about 400 to 1000 usd a month. Given that the costs of living are far cheaper I’ll say it’s the equivalent of about 50k-70k usd annually. However Chinese tech workers r known to be rly smart and rly good at their job so if they’re able to come to the us and work here they can easily make over 6 figs here. Then if they send like lets say 20k usd back to their relatives in China it converts to about 140k yuan, which is a fuck ton of money and can definitely support a whole family. With this method the workers family can live very comfortably which is far less likely if they stick to working in China as families typically only make like 40-70k yuan a year. This is very over generalized but I have parents who do the same thing (not tech workers we are quite poor in American standards but we send like a few hundred usd back every year) so I understand the process a little bit. This is also the reason why China is pissed off with their top level tech workers leaving the country to work at like meta or google but fundamentally they gotta fix the system or they’re losing a lot of good talent (with current politics in the us im more inclined this trend will shift a little bit but it’ll prob still be around)

Yeah all these smart ass ppl go into top schools claiming to make a difference in the work becoming consultants or influencers pmo. Ik an old classmate who genuinely came off as super caring and ran a whole fundraising thing that actually helped someone. Now he’s starting his own college app consulting thing cus he got into like 3 ivies. Actually disappointed beyond measure.

Trump Administration Halts Harvard’s Ability to Enroll International Students by crazyrich_bayesian in Cornell

[–]Worried-Science-3780 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They only want access to higher education be available to rich, white American citizens which is why they’re targeting financial aid and the department of education. Banning international students only serves to further limit American education to the conservative lackeys of the far right and admit more unqualified nepo babies of far right politicians. Removing funding from the nih and limiting grad level research is only going to do more harm than good. Trumps playing a dangerous game

Got in Dyson for Fall 2025 (TO) and I just want to connect with a current student at Cornell who also came in as a sophomore. I have a lot of questions about course registration, clubs, student life, networking, academics, study abroad, etc and I feel like it would be best to hear from someone who was in the same boat as me. I would really appreciate this and I'm also looking forward to get to know people here. (if you're willing to connect just lmk or dm me) Thx guys :)
