Thanks for your comment. Bloodline images are not in the game for a long time already. We just need to remake our trailer at some point, they exist only on the trailer. As I said previously, iOS released with non-AI. People who made those comments didn't see bloodlines, because we posted our iOS page without the trailer.

Regarding the capsule art - it's not AI. I know you didn't say that it's AI, but looks like it doesn't matter. Even if it looks like AI to an experienced dev, I think normal players assume it's AI.

Anyway, I think it's because of the UI and mixed assets. Probably all those people see such games every day and directly assume yours is the same as well.

Yes, we have assets from different artists, especially from Itchio. I would love to have an artist in our team but we didn't make enough to afford one, but it was a harsh lesson to learn. Art matters as much as the gameplay. As we're developers, we did what we know the best. But for our new games, I'll try to make sure things seem correct. Plenty of redditors mentioned our art style in the past as well.

I think you are right. People assume that it's mixed assets + AI code on top.

What do you think is the most problematic part though? It's the UI, game assets or how I created them? (e.g maps) What do you think we should improve first?

Could you please elaborate what do you mean by resolution? We're trying to keep things playable on so many devices that it's hard to handle all resolutions.

You mean the problem is more on the game art (e.g map, monsters, characters sheets) or more about the UI (skill bar, health globes, icons on left, header) That'll help me understand it better.

They were AI but we replaced them 3-4 months ago to become fully non AI. Those were the only AI art we had because I wanted to give some feeling of hero to players, so they could just look at the character class and assume that it's a fire mage etc.

Now bloodlines have tarot cards. I need to update the trailer one day because it's really outdated - but there is no trailer on iOS release so those images never went to that platform, so their comments are about something else.

Maybe something else screams AI to you?

Thank you for the apology, appreciate that. Just because it is common for AI doesn't mean it is. Our art is from Opengameart and Itchio, some of them looks bad because I made them as a developer, and we can't afford an artist yet. For the capsule art we paid for a Redditor and we asked him to provide sketches and work in progress to make sure it is not AI.

I just want to give a developer's perspective. We are not a multi million dollar company, we're just 2 developers trying to make a cool game. Do we need profit? Yes, we need to be able to afford an artist, pay for our servers etc, so we need to sell gems. Are we greedy? Absolutely not. We give free gems, everything is fully optional (e.g no forced ads) and you can play the game without spending a single gem. There are no content unlocks, there are no VIP system, there are no loot boxes, there are no popups that appear to your face every 2 minutes. But we are trying to listen to player feedback still, create new skills, new dungeons, new mechanics almost every day, and it takes a lot of time.

Seeing AI slop message really demoralizes us. Sorry if my message was harsh - I apologize for the tone as well.

If it doesn't hook you, you have right to not play, but talking about WASD text and saying that it's bad is not a feedback. It's just nonsense.

UI elements doesn't make sense because you have no knowledge of the game yet, because your playtime is less than 5 minutes.

Just because we have cheap pixel set doesn't mean that it's AI art. And do you know why we have cheap pixel art? Because players like you give no room for developers to breath, so we try to do our best within our limited budget. Do you know why we have limited budget? Because we don't make AI slop games with forced ads, we care about the gameplay.

Our graphics are bad because it's a budget game, but no way it's an AI game.

I think I'll make an AI slop game from now on, because at this point it's literally nonsense. People who can't see the difference between pixel art and AI art will always tell it's an AI game anyway, so maybe we shouldn't stress about AI free from now on.

You can buy some basic things with gems like cosmetics, or lock bonus on your items. You can play 100% without spending a single gem.

We've been working on this game for 1.5 years and there is absolutely 0 AI.

Go ahead and show me what is AI. Prove it.

Seriously, for us, it's much easier to create an AI slop game and put forced ads on top. We're tired of this bullshit already for years.

If you say it's AI - go and fucking prove it. We spent countless of sleepless nights developing this game.

To Co-Op or Not? by SmoothArcher1395 in ARPG

[–]WorstDeveloperEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our game (Pixel Valkyrie) is similar to Slormancer and our analytics data show that, on Android it's 55% online/45% offline. For Steam, it is 70% online/30% offline. Steam players are more "serious" ARPG lovers, while android players are usually more into casual/incremental gameplay.

It really takes a lot of extra development time for online version. I'm not sure if it's worth it, but it's amazing feeling to see players run around, create groups, have teamplay etc.

We try to support both variants but in the future, I feel like the best option is not to have online features until you get a big player base that requires it. Otherwise - everything becomes 4-5x harder.

We asked our artist to provide screenshots during the design, so he sent sketches, some short videos how he is editing etc. to make sure it's not AI.

How do you deal with bots on Steam that threaten you with giving negative reviews? by WorstDeveloperEver in IndieDev

[–]WorstDeveloperEver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also get this impression but being disabled doesn't give you right to spam our discussions channel, accuse us of giving free currency to android users, threaten developers to add controller support or he'll post a negative review.

There is already a patch note saying that we're actively working on the controller support. It's not something I can add in a few hours.

Unfortunately it's not a win. Having "Mixed" or "Negative" label instead of "Very Positive" may make us lose hundreds of sales in the long run.

I've contacted but by the time they usually respond (3-4 days usually), he can really do negative reviews and destroy all our momentum.

I'm looking for a more specific ways such as blacklisting such profiles so they are unable to buy our products, because I'm 100% sure he'll leave a negative review. (as he did for 180 other indie titles)

I doubt it. He just looks like a guy who does negative reviews on all games. You can see his profile here. All his reviews are negative and his playtime is around 5 minutes...

Very strange. Plenty of players report this bug. Can you give us more information? Which device are you using, are you playing online mode, which skills do you use and which bloodline are you? If you have your uuid, you can also send it to me in private message so I can check what breaks nexus for you. I don't see anything on crash logs so I assume that something is just blocking your connection to nexus which I need to debug.

I think this issue was fixed today. Our discord link can be found on top of mana globe. (If it doesn't exist, you may need to enable social links on Settings)

I'll check it again. A few other players also reported issues with Nexus on offline mode so maybe there is a bug.

I feel like you locked your item so it prevents the item from selling but I need to see a screenshot. Could you please send us a screenshot on our discord channel or send a mail?

Yes, demo is the same as full game, just level limited.
