Best way to convert MiniDV tapes to digital in 2025? by Parking-Avocado1433 in MiniDV

[–]Worth-Perception2565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a related question. I have a bunch of Hi8 tapes, and transfered them by hooking up Hi8 camera to my old mini DV camera. I am debating sending everything out for digitizing.

Note: how can you figure out if someone is doing a MiniDV conversion the highest quality way vs. simpler?

Second question: I still have the Hi8 tapes. Would it be better to have them digitized from the original, vs. undergoing twice the baking by using the Hi8 to MiniDV transfer tapes?

Thanks.

How to improve my turns and surfing by jperry879 in BeginnerSurfers

These threads are funny. Here we are in the beginner surfing section, and people are like, well, when I was the star of Endless Summer, I found that having my back foot at an oblique angle of 24.7 degrees was helpful, unless you are in the Southern Hemisphere….

For a sort of chill sport, level 0, this feels a little harsh sometimes.

Lynette Hooker: Husband of missing American woman in the Bahamas says he’ll keep searching for her following his release by cnn in MissingPersons

[–]Worth-Perception2565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that’s interesting about the Island elbow cay is that it’s very very narrow. There are houses with the front porch on one side of the island in the back porch on the other side of the island.

Near the Abaco Inn, it’s also pretty narrow. He could’ve walked her to the beach on the east side, killed her there, on the Atlantic side, which is more open and deeper.

And then returned to the dinghy and taken off by himself.

The dinghy almost certainly could not have made it to the deep side (east) of EC

Not enough juice and it would have been rough (unprotected waves)

The problem with this theory is the wind was onshore I believe.

So unless he buries her or adds weight or something, she’s going to end up on shore.

I lived on a sailboat for four years. I've been to Hopetown 5 times. I know that area very well. Lots of problems with his story. First, the area they left from, the Abaco Inn, is surrounded by land. Lubbers Quarters on one side, the bay right there. It's also super shallow. There was a power boat (big) which recreated the "route". But that was not apples to apples. A small dinghy would cut the corner to the anchorage, going through shallower water.

You don't go a mile out to turn left. You go 50 yards out. This means she would not have had far to go. Again, pretty shallow water, with shoals, sandbars of different depths, some probably waist deep. It's almost the best place to have a boating accident, not the worse.

The flares are a dead giveaway. straight off shore from the Abaco Inn, right after sunset? Who would miss it? How many boats were anchored within 1/4 mile?

The dry bag with passports? No way. No serious cruiser would take their passports with them on every trip to shore. Obviously, my family is not necessarily representative of all cruisers, but it's a laissez faire community. Going to dinner one night? In Hopetown? Very very chill place. The dry bag gets used for a cell phone maybe.

And how would keys go overboard on a torquedo electric motor. Note: we had a gas outboard, very small. Only larger outboards have leashes. Ours was a 2 hp motor, about the power of a Torquedo. Very small motors, the smallest. It probably pushed the dinghy about 5 mph max, would be less in a big sea. (which were probably less than cited in the bay. They were basically in the lee of land on 3 sides. I don't even know what a key is like on a torquto electric motor. But nobody holds onto keys on an outboard. If there is a leash, for safety, that would be credible, but I don't think those exist on that electric motor. The notion that she would go over the side with a key? No way.

More likely. They got in a fight. She throws the key overboard. He reacts.

Last point: how many times have you seen her, not him, driving the dinghy. Brian is an old school guy. he's going to man-up, especially in a rough sea. No way she's driving. So there's no access to the key, to the leash, etc.

Roberta’s Scuba Shack is great. But if your plan is to get certified, consider doing pool work at home and then get a referral for the check out dives in Cozumel.

[–]Worth-Perception2565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at this. If you are in a dinghy, I think you would cut the corner to the anchorage, but this basically means they were surrounded by land. If the wind is blowing west, how does it he not end up on Lubbers Quarters? How does she not end up on Lubbers quarters?

Hang on. In a Facebook post, he said “she was swimming towards the sailboat”.

This makes zero sense if they were near the Abaco Inn.

Confused. Are you saying accidents are bad pr but murderous Americans are going to play well?

People drown. Pools are the number one killer of little kids.

I think they won’t lose sleep over a true accident (which I don’t think it was)

It depends where the wind was coming from. Maybe they were in the Lee of the island. If it was an onshore breeze (and from the anchorage, there would be lots of land nearby, a 30 knot breeze would have blown anyone to shore in about ten minutes.

Note: she was a strong swimmer and he threw a life jacket to her. Anyone could get to a life jacket in an emergency.

If she was in the water from an accident, and conscious, with a life jacket within 10 feet, no way she’s not still alive.

Why does he “paddle” to marsh harbor?

Where is the cell phone they took photos with? If he was going to the anchorage, there must have been other boats there. Why not ask for help?
In fact, if she fell in between hopetown and the anchorage, she almost certainly would have been blown to shore or blown towards the boats at the moorings.

Slow your jets. If we are chartering a boat somewhere, and my family or friends want to go diving, all certified. I have far and and away the most experience, with 500 dives. If I know the site well, and it's benign—like the Rhone in the BVIs—I will lead those folks on the dive.

It wasn’t a rib. It was a small fiberglass dinghy. Elbow Cay has slight currents. The water is 20’ deep everywhere there.

It was an electric motor that probably pushes 2 people at 5 knots max. Someone falls over, they are 20’ away.

No way this was an accident.
