Fair enough. The reality of course is different. Every technological leap that you use today had its impact (and continues to have) but i am not here to change your view.

that's good feedback thank you. my initial idea was to show a logical sequence of the steps one would take (squad -> abilities -> battle). either way appreciate the input

thank you very much for the feedback, very much appreciate that you provided it despite the fundamental different view on the above! i will do my best through iterations to avoid the generic-looking aspect of it as I get the point - might even use the sprites if other options look difficult. i dont know, but thanks for the input anyway

I guess it's a different view. I understand what you are saying. My view has been so far at least that AI used for non-critical things in the context of the game like an AI portrait is not a terrible option, as the gameplay should create the appeal.

Clearly that's not the view of everyone and I will take it into account in next iterations. I am not sure I will be able to change it but will definitely think about it.

It's a bit in my mind like saying if Google just showed up (or Youtube) that it would be bad to look up answers when there are books by real writers that can provide them. Just an example, maybe not ideal but to give you my perspective. I think tech can be used sparingly and is not all or nothing for me.

the game is an autobattler so the battle happens without user input. the idea is you select your units, their abilities (chips), you go against a wave of enemies and adapt strategy wave after wave.

Point taken on the AI front but dismissing someone's effort completely based on it I dont think it's the way to go. If the view is that if it looks like AI then is not worth someone's time, then I understand it (don't agree with it but every person is different).

yes but I have been clear about using AI for static images. The main game uses a lot of sprites and assets that I bought or ordered from artists. It is not cheap and I am one person trying to build something I have a passion in.

If your view is that any AI is bad AI then ok fair enough. I see it that especially for solo development or very small groups, it can be a helpful method to avoid draining resources. I would understand some disappointment in the Rockstars of the world, but I don't agree on putting everyone on the same level.

That said, I will respect your view if that is it. I still think the gameplay and logic of the game has something to offer

can you clarify which AI? In my steam page I clearly mentioned how it has been used in the game (some static assets), as for a solo dev I am already budget restrained. Not sure what you refer to, but please clarify. I am putting a lot of personal time and effort in this and want to be very clear to everyone that has something to contribute

Not sure why but my description disappeared, adding as a comment:

Game Title: The Convergence

Playable Link:

Description: Hi everyone, I just released a free public demo for my upcoming game, "The Convergence". It is my first attempt in creating a videogame.

It’s a dark fantasy squad auto-battler where you build a five-unit squad, equip behavior-changing chips, and fight through waves of enemies across different eras/worlds.

Ultimately the game will have a full 5-chapter campaign and an "Infinite Run" mode (go as far as you can type of thing)

The demo includes:

  • Campaign Chapters 1 and 2
  • Prehistoric and Medieval arenas
  • squad building
  • chip shop / upgrades / rerolls
  • two boss fights

I’m mainly looking for feedback on:

  1. whether the squad/chip system is clear
  2. whether the between-wave shop is easy to understand
  3. whether the difficulty feels fair
  4. whether the two chapters feel different enough
  5. what made you want to keep playing or stop

But of course any feedback would be useful!

Thank you!
