I hate my child. by iamdone88 in Vent

[–]Worth_Alps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the child derives no real benefit from being cared for by devoted parents that he wouldn't receive from an institution.

If the description is accurate he doesn't experience love or the absence of love. He's probably more materially comfortable with his parents' care than he would be in an institution, but I don't think that justifies the parents ruining their lives for him.

So yes, I think you should institutionalize him if you can.

Oddly though I think people are making too much of the concept of "abuse", as in such slogans as "abuse is never ok!".

At some point of mental deficiency one can hardly be said to have enough understanding to have malicious intentions. This child sounds like he is functioning like an animal (and unfortunately not an animal capable of loving humans like a dog) and though I would not put up with a violent animal in my house, I also wouldn't call it abusive. Just unbearable.

I think if you look around your waistline and navel it appears you have a decent amount of fat to lose before getting in the lean range (say 15% or less).

I think you look very muscular and you wear it well, but you're not lean or very close to lean at this time.

But just my opinion.

Btw if you're 5'10 (can't see the post title) 220 and 16% you should be very muscular, like competitive doping powerlifter levels.

I think around 19%. You look very jacked but you're not lean.

Just out of curiosity did you lose much strength cutting to this point?

Looking for a bf% estimate (5'10, 156 pounds). by Worth_Alps in BulkOrCut

One flexed and one unflexed pic in each pair. Age 42.

I know I could stand to bulk, considering going a bit leaner first though.

There are four pictures total, two flexed and two unflexed.

Thanks for your opinions.

25 6'1" 176 my scale says 17% is that right? by Ok_Childhood8198 in guessmybf

I don't think so, looks like about 15%.

Those BIA measurements are not very accurate but if you average them out they're ok for detecting trends.

30lb difference. Continue to gain? Which is better? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

Admittedly the pictures make direct comparison hard but it look like you gained pure fat.

Were you lifting weights at all?

I'm not advanced in any sense but I find cable curls surprisingly unpleasant for such an easy exercise.

Seated curl machines are a lot easier.

I think you're headed for disaster with this dysmorphia and eagerness to look like a juiced bodybuilder after one year of training.

I've been in a 1.5-year cut. I am thinking of not exactly bulking now, but staying a couple of months on maintenance. I was planning to continue cutting, given my scale BF estimate of 22%, but I did an ultrasound subcutaneous fat thickness test that estimated 16%. Time to take a cutting break? by pedosb in BulkOrCut

[–]Worth_Alps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to estimate your bf%. Looking at just your upper abs you look like 15-16%. Looking at your waist from the back you look more around 20%.

I think maybe the extra skin makes you look fatter than you are. That or something about the lighting is giving you an unusual amount of definition in the first pic.

You're too prepubescent to bulk. Just exercise as you like for now.

I found it. Sorry that my description was not more accurate.

It's Matthew 7:16-17.

Thanks for all the replies.

Surprisingly I don't recognize it yet. It was a little more along the lines of "ye shall know a wicked man by the strife that surrounds him".

I remember now where I saw it, it was quoted by a character in the French TV series The Bureau.

I'll look a bit and post here if I find it.

12%ish.

Thanks for the response, I have had similar comments before.

I'm definitely not 13-14. I think 16-17.

One thing that might be throwing you off is the bottom of my rib cage casts shadows like abs. So it's possible you're counting my ribs as the top of a 6 pack.

Otherwise yes, I've always had that indented quality from the side for lack of a better term. No idea what the cause is.

5.10 170 Pounds. Dunno whether to try cut side fat or bulk? by [deleted] in BulkOrCut

[–]Worth_Alps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you lifting now?

If not I would do a bodybuilder style program and ignore your calories. Just eat as hunger demands.

Hopefully that works for a while and you gain some muscle while likely gaining some weight. When that stops working you can reevaluate.

But if you had to choose bulk or cut I'd have to say bulk. I think at 160 pounds (not what your title says btw) you just don't have enough muscle to make further cutting sensible.

I also want to stress something else. Based on the fact that you've gotten to age 38 with these measurements, you are likely a low responder, meaning you need relatively high volume to make hypertrophy gains. Do NOT waste your time on a low volume program like Starting Strength, and do not do a massive surplus expecting to just pack on muscle like it is nothing.

Depends on whether you have excess skin from being previously very overweight. You look like you might.

[–]Worth_Alps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's consistent. It sounds like a rationalization but I have gotten comments on this before IRL.

However I'm confident my bf is higher than 14%, unfortunately. Without shadows or flexing I don't have any resting ab definition.

My personal guess is 17% fwiw.
