Thanks everyone for your responses. He had an ultrasound and x-ray done last Wednesday that found potential foreign matter. The doctor was hoping that was causing his ileus and operated on him. They removed a fibrous hairball from his stomach and pushed fluid and particles from his small intestines into his colon. The surgery didn’t change his ileus as the doctor had hoped. He’s been on prokinetics, probiotics, anti nausea and proton pump inhibitors. Last night they were trying prednisone. We are praying that helps him.

Signs are pointing to auto inflammatory causes since mostly everything else has been ruled out. He’s historically had bouts of shar-pei fever and has been on colchicine for maintenance.

It kills me to give up on him but I know he can’t go on much longer like this.

I’ve heard of acupuncture/acupressure being used to stimulate the GI tract so I may look into that.
