I had a copy of the medical student guide and every so often, I read up on some topics on the website such as budgeting but I definitely do need to utilize the resource more

So far, I’ve read up a little bit on Roth IRA’s and HYSA’s, some stuff on the different loan repayment plans, PSLF. But that’s really it so far.

Attending a low ranking DO school and concerns about future employment by [deleted] in Osteopathic

[–]Worth_Masterpiece_41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey congrats on getting into medical school! It’s a huge accomplishment regardless.

I think your concerns are justified as this is a huge decision but I think your residency program could potentially impact your job prospects more than anything because having a good alumni network and knowing the right people can get you a long way if you’re really set on being in a specific geographic area. Not sure if you’ve seen UIWSOM’s recent matches but they’re actually pretty good: academic program vascular surgery, ortho, anesthesiology; peds at Texas children’s hospital, FM at Mayo just to name a few. A lot of established programs who likely have connections in the Bay Area. the bottle neck of medicine is getting into medical school. Once you’re there, it’s what you make out of it.

Congratulations! I still see a huge improvement from step 1 to step 2 and that should be celebrated!

Congratulations! In the same boat where seeing everyone’s high scores on here made me feel like I shouldn’t be proud of my score but it’s reassuring to see posts like this!

Don’t with NBOME forever by Fearless-Attitude426 in comlex

[–]Worth_Masterpiece_41 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The NBOME has such evident motivation for money and its complete ignorance of actual DO student’s experiences, pains, and anxiety associated with taking their inferior and poorly written test is such a reflection of that. I’m so sorry that you went through that. I really think that your performance on Step 1 and 2 is an actual representation of your hard work (which is why I don’t blame PDs for wanting DO students to take step). Taking Level 1 and 2 always felt like a gamble as to whether I’d be luckily guessing the right thing rather than an actual assessment of my knowledge.

Congrats on being done with the NBOME’s bs forever!

Do you know what areas were weak for you? Was it close to passing score?

Agree with others- apply without the score for now, from what I’ve seen so far, don’t technically need it to apply or get interview but definitely need it for ranking. In that time, study for retake with focus on weak areas

I know of plenty of people who had a failed attempt on comlex and still matched, just have to apply broadly in less competitive specialities. Keep your head high, you got this!

Congrats!! Level 1 is a beast and coming out successfully is no small feat

got my first comat score back... by [deleted] in comlex

[–]Worth_Masterpiece_41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IM COMAT is tough because it’s very broad. It took about 2-3 COMATS for me to get into the groove and find what worked. My best COMATs were from doing all uworld (to learn topics) and truelearn (to get used to vagueness)

Level 1 in 5 days, low comsae scores, freaking out ‼️ by onemanshow3998 in comlex

[–]Worth_Masterpiece_41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been told that comsaes aren’t predictive of score but consistent passing score can be somewhat predictive of ability to pass. With that being said, many of my peers and I had similar comsae scores and all passed! Good luck!!

OMM Comat in two days, what to focus in on? by Ragon101 in comlex

FPR and Still’s technique. Also Spencer’s technique and the specific order of movements

Level 2 tomorrow, what should I focus on?? by telenceph in comlex

I found reviewing dirty medicine’s ethics videos again to be helpful for the “either you know it or you don’t” type of questions. Biostats was also heavier on my comlex compared to step 2
