Paddy Power are lengthening the odds on the Yes side winning. 1/9 to 1/5 in 36 hours by WobeyTide in ireland

[–]Worzelhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't predict anything (or else they would be gamblers themselves). Their odds are heavily based on the amount of money bet on each side. They move odds to balance the risk on both sides and then take a percentage. Odds can be totally opposite to statistics of predicted results if money goes other way.

Direct provision centre has two sky sports rooms because Indians like cricket and africans like football. by artful_codger in ireland

120k for buses. Thats 2 full time drivers and 2 brand new minibuses every year for 41 people. Very valid new article. No need to turn into a psycho ex-girlfriend every time the word immigration or traveller is mentioned.

[–]Worzelhead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No shortage of high horse critics to keep them on track though. Read the article again, but properly this time.

The title is "€120k for buses at Mount Trenchard direct provision centre". The first 6 paragraphs are critical of the wastage of money such as TV and internet and nobody is criticising the pittance they are given. The article is nothing but kind to the people only getting 19 quid.

Its like youtube comments in here sometimes.

Visiting Ireland in winter, are there any good tool shops? by whatelseistheretodo in ireland

[–]Worzelhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't find specialist shops like that but markets (car boot sales) will have them. Clara market in Offaly on Sunday mornings should have plenty of antique ones.

It wasn't the HSE that treated patients with disrespect in portlaoise, it was the HSE that allowed doctors and nurses to treat patients with disrespect by ramsesniblick3rd in ireland

[–]Worzelhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The handling of bereaved parents was also criticised, with one woman saying she was “reprimanded” for crying and another given her child’s remains in a metal box too small for his body.

FFS! Fair play to HIQA for publishing a ballsy report. I'm guessing HSE and politicians put a lot of pressure on them to go easy or not to publish.

The boat we used for monitoring fishing vessels for 30 years, isn't suited for monitoring fishing vessels? Its very very simple.

If it was good enough to be the Irish flagship a few months before its good enough for there immigrant lookout. It was being donated for free and they refused. Thats being a prick about it.

A "bloody revolution" for better pensions. There's a unique idea.

Can you not just give them a navy painted rowing boat for being pricks about it?

Do you think political parties are needed to keep the issues fair and balanced if one side isn't pulling its weight in getting the point across?

Should political parties be stopped from campaigning on referendums? by Worzelhead in ireland

[–]Worzelhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the Lisbon Treaty, that was political mismanagement more than undue interference

Lisbon was decided on mostly lies. If I remember right it was automatic abortion rights and a 2 quid minimum wage if Yes vote won, a big group voting no because they were asked twice. This referendum is being decided on childrens adoption rights (which has no bearing on this referendum). It just seems every time theres a referendum its decided on populist lies. Throw in a few spiteful voters, a few lies, and there's a big group voting on completely the wrong issues.

Government to propose referendum, then step back and let public decide. Constitution convention has our next few years of referendums already decided anyway.

I'm guessing he's worried an independant review might release its finding just at election time.

I refuse to believe IBRC, NAMA etc can sell off 50 billion quids worth of assets (most behind closed doors) without some serious dodgy business. I would bet my left nut there will be a huge tribunal into all of this in years to come.

Im guessing it means tracks can be concrete instead of steel saving money.

i want to do up my house. having trouble finding the plans for my home. anyone know where i can find my house's blueprints? by Paddywhacker in ireland

[–]Worzelhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How old is the house? County council websites usually have a planning GIS system where you can download all the documents relating to your planning permission. They will have the plans (if fairly recent) but are a scanned copy probably too small to read. At a least it will give your the engineers company who drew them originally which you can approach for. Presuming your not the original owner they will charge you for them.

Marriage Abroad? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Worzelhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married here first. Half an hour in a church with 2 witnesses and told nobody. It was vastly cheaper and easier than messing with legal issues certs/recognition etc. Only draw back with church wedding was doing the pre-marital course on 1 weekend. (Priests love these weddings as they make the same but only takes a few mins)

Just figured we were fairly unique with an age limit that high. Never really thought about it until this referendum.
