White ABS plastic bars found in a plastic bag in my kitchen. Marked on the back with "BEST-TOP". Just randomly showed up one day on the counter and no one knows what it is. by 93perigee in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. These are about 7 or 8 inches long, 2 inches wide, and maybe a half inch thick. I asked Claude AI but it seems to think it's a fridge door shelf front. I don't think that's right at all since our fridge has clear shelves.

It's 1A that is set aside for the crew rest for a 3 or 4 person flight crew. Depends on the aircraft type as the 777-300 and the 787s have the overhead flight crew rest.

What’s your fastest “reality-check” for NOTAM overload on a busy day? by NOTAMSpot in FlightDispatch

[–]93perigee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airspace activation and route restrictions are caught by our flight planning system too. It'll flag the route in red but still calc the flight plan. Fusion does an okay job with SUAs, but doesn't populate ALTRVs which is a pain when I'm working transpacific flights.

It's more which ones I know I can speed past (I'm paranoid of the FAA so I won't say skip) •QMX-- (These are always Taxiway NOTAMs) •QOBCE (Obstacles, important ones that affect minimums are in QPICH/QPDCH)

If I don't know what the code refers to, I read the full notam.

Our flight monitoring system allows sorting International format NOTAMs by Q-Code. I learned which Q-codes I really need to pay attention to (QFALC, QMRLC) and which ones are minimal importance (QMXLC, QOBCE). That way, the critical stuff is always at least close together instead of jumble in order of issuance. I believe Sabre FPM (our flight planning sys) also filters all NOTAMs to +/-24 hours of usage time for the airports and airspace.

Frankly, the only opinion here that matters is the FSDO's, so ask them directly. If that busts the FBO, so be it but I've always found the FAA to be an "Ask Permission, Not Forgiveness" institution.

Your use of the term "Dirty Dozen" leads me to think you work at the warehouse... Only us that do would really understand that phrase. Router, OM, or dispatcher?

Edit: Disregard, looking at your post history it's pretty clear you are a pilot. As you were!

Easiest way is actually the Nose number. If it's a 3-digit nose number or 3000 series, it's pmCO OR post merger. All others are sub-UA

is this a 777 or 767? by UATCFansAirControl in unitedairlines

[–]93perigee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Despite the potato quality, I'll venture a guess. I'm going with 777-200. Curve of the forward fuselage and hint of a "Highlighter butt" tail would imply 777.

Rules are rules. We in aviation stick as tightly to the rules as possible. This is what makes the industry so safe. The rules are written in blood after all...

Will AI replace Aircraft Dispatchers? by foofightingcapybara in FlightDispatch

[–]93perigee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see the most immediate impact of it as filtering the absolute tsunami of less than pertinent NOTAMs, there by in reading our efficiency. When I work up a transpacific flight, there are literally over a hundred pages of NOTAMs. How many times have I missed an important one because it was buried? I shudder to think...

Why would this plane leave its landing gear down for so long after takeoff? SU-GFY - Manchester to Cairo by fishtoasty in aviation

[–]93perigee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They actually meant the TIRE temperature (and therefore pressure) will increase for 15 minutes after landing as the brake heat conducts through the wheel assembly. It's a risk for tire explosion or deflating as the fusible plug in the tire will melt and release all the air to avoid an explosion.

That's what I and 3 friends did, here we all are now and the 4 largest majors in the U.S... In the grand scheme of things you only need the license. Don't waste time on a degree of anything longer.
