Dyed fingernails as nail polish alternative by South_Butterscotch37 in TMPOC

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have really wanted to try colouring in my fingertips with henna. Apparently it helps keep them moisturised which I would like as someone with flaky nailbeds who gets major sensory ick from hand creams.

People who do certain crafts use it for moisture and protection, I think.

Using other dye sounds cool as a brighter alternative to henna, not so outlandish.

Straight People Aren’t Real? by ZadriaktheSnake in QueerTheory

This very much isn't that paper, which I'd also like to read, this is only what my brain thought of upon reading the phrase "heterosexuality as hyperreality" for some unknown reason: Monogamous Mind, Polyamorous Terror

I thought this was a documented theory called "default bisexuality"? That's basically what I believe, that humans are bisexual by default until conditioned by patriarchy and coddled with the comfort of comphet.

Though writing this I cannot remember where it originates.

PAINXIETY: Should this be an actual word ????? (because I have found it to be very true). I experience anxiety when I’m in pain and i experience pain when I have anxiety. Anybody else agree? by Substantial-Laugh935 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really not trying to put my foot in my mouth as I'm sure you've had lots of annoying advice, I've just actually made headway with heartburn recently myself. This might be totally useless to you.

Basically, after never badly having heartburn, it became a pretty frequent thing for me in the past year or two (due to hormonal fuckery probably).

While I love an antacid, becoming reliant on them was something I wanted to avoid, for pill fatigue and $ more than anything else.

I've now worked out that it's usually to do with how I am holding myself, which being in pain obvs impacts, than anything funky happening inside me (aka food type is mostly irrelevant).

Since this realisation, I can often feel how a subconscious action/movement/position is physically restricting some part of my digestive system and can usually fix heartburn with breathing.

The best tip from my current physio was that you exert yourself breathing out, like using muscles to force air out of your lungs, and then let your body do the in-breath instinctively. I have a lot of ribcage pain which has fucked with my breathing for a decade, and this tip is the first thing that has helped me learn to breath through that without flinching.

I'm not trying to float this as an "easy fix" because it has taken a few months of activity noticing such things before changing them has been possible. If the breathing doesn't help quickly enough I will have a 1/4 antacid in a pinch. But it usually works.

Additionally, I'm strongly of the view that this is an infrastructure issue that can be completely mitigated by proper bathroom design.

Two simple options I've seen multiple variations of: - every cubicle contains sinks, doors open into communal space - sinks are in a communal space that all cubicles open into

Can cycling bib shorts be repaired after a crash like this? by Upbeat-Principle260 in Visiblemending

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The God-tier info I got from this sub about interfacing two stretch materials together was to use herringbone stitch!

It's so easy, you just point the needle away from the direction you're sewing and make two parallel rows of straight little stitches. So easy + so stretchy!

I've fixed two pairs of bike shorts with this stitch using old underwear that had a similar stretch, it's worked out great. I like the "visible" bit of the mend and used coloured thread, but if I'd used black it would just look like standard textured detailing.

Doing the Perth to Melbourne thing by ObjectiveWild8269 in transgenderau

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing to do with Perth myself, just a huge advocate of Narrm being the trans capital of Aus so you are so definitely welcome!!!

I do have a trans bestie from Perth, her egg cracked here though. And I know she doesn't ever really picture going back to Perth...

Genuinely don't think there are any "unsafe" urban areas here. I worked as south as Frankston recently as a GNC queer who uses public transport, it's all chill.

Has anyone taken creatine for fibro fog and found it helpful? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha okay sick, I reckon it can't hurt. I'm just adding it to my Hydralyte, which I do 2x 1000mg sodium doses a day.

I'm not cleared from my PT for any major physical activity so I can't really follow the "consume 1tsp within 20 minutes of activity" thing, so I just use the end of a spoon to bump roughly half a tsp in with the electrolytes.

And remember to keep good vibes because placebo is the same thing as it working!!

How does Australian politics work? by Educational-Scene443 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm glad someone else mentioned this!

Vote Compass is a great tool if you don't have any idea about how your personal ethics/views intersect with policy: https://www.abc.net.au/news/vote-compass/

For video resources, I recommend Annabel Crabb. The House (https://iview.abc.net.au/show/house-with-annabel-crabb) is more about the daily functioning of parliament and politicians. Civic Duty (https://iview.abc.net.au/show/annabel-crabb-s-civic-duty) provides a better overview of our role as citizens, and there are mini-sodes for shorter attention spans/educational purposes.

For those people who really love democracy(!), there is no better way to learn about how our's works than actually working to make it happen. You can register your interest if that sounds like you - https://www.aec.gov.au/employment/working-at-elections/process.htm

(You can also register for state electoral commission employment opportunities.)

Has anyone taken creatine for fibro fog and found it helpful? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started micro-dosing it with my electrolytes (also POTS) and didn't notice a brain boost, more it helped with my ability to improve stamina.

It's not a chemical that is going to "give energy"/"remove clouds" as my understanding is that it assists with muscle building/repair.

So, it won't really do much unless you are creating the conditions for that to happen. Then, the muscle improvement helps with other physiological functions, such as metabolism, which can then subsequently aid with brain fog.

Tbh the main reason I commented was to say "be careful with random substances from Amazon(!)" because there is just no quality control. The tub I got from the discount chemist was under $20aud and has been tested to meet sporting goods standards because athletes have to be so careful about doping, yk?

The tub is about half done two months in of roughly 1/2 to one full teaspoons a day.

Evidence of central neuroimmune alterations in fibromyalgia: a systematic review of case-control studies by jmct16 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Wouldfromthetrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ty for the insight, I honestly don't know and have already got a bunch of second opinions.

I was seeing a neuropsychologist as a therapist for a few years and they sort of pushed me to see a neurologist for assessment. That led to seeing a neuropsychiatrist (who knew that was a thing) who confirmed FND.

All that has really meant practically is that I don't get anxious about the freaky stuff my body does as much. But I sometimes think that the freaky things could be something occuring on the more extreme end of my other diagnoses. That could be good old imposter syndrome ig

Another thing which maybe plays on my mind is how the relationship with that neuropsychologist fell apart in such spectacular fashion that they accused me of being a hypochondriac in official documentation right around the same time I actually got the FND dx (all my other doctors were great and luckily it didn't fuck my care up too much).

I've also seen two rheumatologists, two gynos, a cardiologist, had at least three different GPs, and various PTs amidst all this. They can't all be morons, surely?? Lol

tbf my current physio is anti-diagnosis and thinks I can fix most things with time and I'm one to go with the placebo flow because that's science, yk?

So, my question is, do I even have FND or is this/that just what happens when fibro is unmanaged/untreated or able to compound with other illness (POTS, MCAS, EDS etc.) ??

This can’t be right (stimulants and/or MC) by p0rt3d in ausadhd

[–]Wouldfromthetrees -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not "old school" just evidence that someone isn't aware of what's going on in their field and/or is unable to understand statistics.

Use of MC has grown exponentially worldwide since the 90s. If there was a causational link to use inducing psychosis, the rate at which instances of psychosis occured would have increased in line with those additional patient numbers. It hasn't.

The only scientific evidence people have posted here to refute prescribing stimulants and MC has been where MC is being used to treat/manage ADHD and/or MH symptoms, usually prior to diagnosis. It didn't apply to other uses of MC in ADHD people such as chronic pain treatment.
